After successfully intercepting Xia Yuyan and seizing the vehicle containing the evidence against Director Xia, Xie Xinxu hands the materials over to Lin Juan to report the corruption to the authorities. However, the physical toll of the mission causes Xie’s virus to flare up. Even after injecting an inhibitor, he finds no relief and collapses in a corner, trembling with pain. Wu Nongyu finds him in this state and, despite his protests, refuses to leave him.
Reminding him of their agreement to be honest with each other, she embraces him to help soothe his symptoms, and the two spend the night together. The following morning, Nongyu notices scratches on Xie Xinxu's arms and finds anxiety medication hidden under his pillow. When Xie wakes up, he is initially apologetic, explaining he only intended to hold her. Nongyu, however, is more concerned about his injuries.
Xie reveals that his symptoms began two years ago after she left; as a "Ren" separated from his bonded "Yin" for too long, he developed severe separation anxiety, leading him to self-harm when the distress became unbearable. He expresses hope that once he is cured by the new drug, he can pursue her again as a normal person.
Director Ding soon arrives with news that the trial results for the newly developed medicine are a success, claiming the virus has been eliminated in Lin Juan and the other volunteers. He pushes for immediate mass production to save lives, but Nongyu suggests further observation to check for adverse reactions. After Ding leaves, Nongyu meticulously reviews the lab reports and discovers that Director Ding—who was responsible for recording the data—omitted certain information.
Realizing the drug is dangerous, she tries to warn the volunteers, only to find that a signal jammer has been installed in the building. Director Ding returns, now armed with a gun, and forces Nongyu and Xie Xinxu to sit for a meal. He chillingly reveals that the drug was never meant to save the infected but to eliminate them by causing total organ failure, effectively "cleansing" the population of the virus.
Xie Xinxu manages to seize the gun from him, but Ding remains unfazed, as he has already submitted the formula for mass production. He finally reveals his true identity as Wu Ming, Nongyu’s father. He recounts the tragedy of sixteen years ago, explaining that his wife, Lin Yu, had devoted her life to curing the virus. Because they lacked a crucial catalyst for the formula, Lin Yu had secretly tested a first-generation version on herself, which resulted in her falling into a permanent coma.
