Xie Xinxu tried to be intimate with Wu Nongyu, but she was preoccupied with her work. When he eventually carried her to the bedroom, she stopped him as he began to undress, admitting she wasn't ready to form a "pact" yet. Xinxu playfully clarified that he simply meant they should literally sleep, leaving Nongyu feeling flustered and embarrassed. Meanwhile, Wu Siyuan learned through an email from Director Xia that his sister, Nongyu, had acquired a fragment.
His team confirmed that Yin Che had sent a package labeled "fragile glass" to her. Worried that her involvement would put her in danger if Director Xia found out, Siyuan decided to retrieve the fragment discreetly. He arranged a dinner at Nongyu’s house, intending for Li Xiang to find the item while he distracted his sister. He also dispatched a team member to Mugang, where the third fragment was reportedly located.
During the dinner, Li Xiang followed Siyuan's subtle cue and asked Nongyu for hand cream. When Nongyu offered to fetch it, Li Xiang insisted on going to the bedroom herself to find it. Suspicious of her movements, Xie Xinxu excused himself and caught her attempting to open a password box inside a wardrobe. As Siyuan and Nongyu rushed in, they found Xinxu pinning Li Xiang against the wall to stop her. Back at their own place, Siyuan’s jealousy flared.
He aggressively kissed Li Xiang, accusing her of flirting with Xinxu and claiming he loathed "the smell of another man" on her. When Li Xiang suggested his reaction proved he cared for her, Siyuan coldly denied it, stating that both she and Lin Juan were merely "his" property as Ren. He insisted his anger stemmed solely from his animosity toward Xinxu before abruptly leaving for work.
At home, Nongyu expressed her own jealousy over the incident between Xinxu and Li Xiang. Xinxu comforted her with affection until her mood lifted. However, their peace was interrupted by the delivery of a hard drive. Upon playing it, Nongyu was horrified to see footage of Siyuan humiliating and experimenting on a bound Xie Xinxu. Xinxu explained that the Special Administration Bureau had forced him into the secret experiment against his will.
He admitted he had kept this from her to avoid ruining her relationship with her brother, but a furious Nongyu immediately went to confront Siyuan. At Siyuan’s residence, Nongyu noticed women’s shoes and forced Siyuan to admit he had formed a pact with Li Xiang. She then showed him the video of his past cruelty. Siyuan dismissed his actions as "combat training," claiming other Ren would envy such an opportunity.
This confrontation triggered a painful memory for Siyuan: as a child, he had discovered needle marks on young Nongyu's arm from their father’s experiments. To protect her, he had called the police to report his father, Wu Ming. This act led to a tragedy where their parents died in a car fire, and Nongyu was subsequently expelled from school, leaving Siyuan to relocate and raise her alone.
In the present, Siyuan maintained his chilling philosophy that Ren are devoid of emotion and exist only as weapons to be used and discarded. He explicitly told Nongyu that Li Xiang was nothing more than a "blood bag" and could never be his wife, a statement that deeply wounded Li Xiang as she listened nearby. Siyuan warned Nongyu that Xinxu was only using her as a hostage for revenge.
However, Nongyu rejected his cynicism, accusing him of only believing what suited his worldview. She declared her determination to find a cure for the Affinity virus so they could all live as ordinary people. Despite Siyuan’s warnings that Director Xia was already aware of her actions, Nongyu remained resolute, reminding her brother that he was the one who had set the precedent for "choosing justice over family."
