Upon his arrival, Ling Changjin admitted he was aware that Tang Qianyue was a YLBL member and pregnant, confessing that he and Bao Zhu had visited their residence once. Ling Changfeng recalled the large bag of pastries they had received, understanding that it was from that day.
Sensing Ling Changfeng's guard, Ling Changjin revealed the shocking news: their elder sister was still alive. Ling Changfeng rushed to a secret room and found his sister lying unconscious. He confronted Ling Changjin, who explained the tragic history. Years ago, when Ling Changfeng went to the palace to acquire Kirin blood, Ling Changjin learned that The Honorable intended to burn the YLBL members. He secretly swapped their sister, saving her from the fire.
He detailed how the Yilan Clan initially sought a political marriage with their city for Bao Zhu's Kirin blood, which they needed to nurture the butterfly poison. The late emperor had instead sent their sister as a substitute princess. However, she did not possess Kirin blood, infuriating the Yilan Clan. In their rage, they infected their sister and her entourage with butterfly poison, turning them into YLBL members, and sent them back.
Ling Changjin recounted the horror of witnessing his own sister, under the influence of the butterfly poison, attack his soldiers, and then see his soldiers, also infected, attack her. This experience left him with a deep hatred for the butterfly poison. Ling Changfeng then questioned Ling Changjin if his marriage to Bao Zhu was solely to obtain her Kirin blood to save their sister. Ling Changjin candidly confirmed it, stating that only Bao Zhu possessed that unique blood.
Unbeknownst to them, Bao Zhu had secretly come to the room, intending to offer her Kirin blood to save their sister. She hid in a stone cave, overhearing their entire conversation. She was heartbroken to realize Ling Changjin had married her for her blood. That evening at dinner, Bao Zhu sat silently, picking at her rice with no appetite. Ling Changjin tried to serve her, but she gently refused.
Later, citing Dr. Xun's advice for rest due to her delicate health, Bao Zhu instructed He Xi to prepare a side room, announcing her intention to move there. Ling Changjin was visibly surprised and disheartened by her decision. Meanwhile, Tang Qianyue sat by their door, anxiously awaiting Ling Changfeng's return. When he finally came back, he was visibly distressed, expressing how life felt too bitter, with everyone bearing their own indescribable suffering.
Tang Qianyue, her heart aching for him, embraced him, offering comfort and strength. Later, Bao Zhu, in tears, sought out Tang Qianyue. Tang Qianyue, sensing her deep sorrow, comforted her. A month remained until Tang Qianyue was due to give birth. She confided in Ling Changfeng about her changing appearance, feeling ugly. He then tenderly applied lip balm for her. Tang Qianyue asked him when he truly began to want their child.
