Luo Qinge remained troubled by Chen Yimu's drunken kiss from the previous night, even dreaming about it. The incident left her feeling annoyed and distant towards him. Chen Yimu, seemingly oblivious, wondered if he had somehow offended her while he was intoxicated, asking if he had hit her. However, he also received good news when his father, after much thought, decided to support his dream of playing basketball.
His father gave him 500 yuan to buy new basketball shoes, as his old pair had been worn for two years. Chen Yimu promised his father that he would study diligently to get into a first-tier sports university. Meanwhile, Lin Xingchen was pleased after scoring 82 on her recent test, a score Lu Yibai acknowledged as "interest" on a previous debt.
She had hoped to go to an astronomy exhibition with him, but to their disappointment, the tickets had already expired. Lu Yibai then offered her a new incentive: two tickets to an art exhibition, promising to go with her if she ranked in the top twenty on her upcoming mock exams. That weekend, Chen Yimu discovered Luo Qinge had left her homework notebook at school and decided to deliver it to her house. While there, he asked why her attitude towards him had changed so drastically. Luo Qinge, still upset, curtly told him she didn't want to see him. When Chen Yimu turned to leave, she was taken aback by his prompt departure and fumed in her room about him walking away so easily.
Suddenly, she heard a noise outside her window, mistook it for a thief, and impulsively threw a flower pot. It turned out to be Chen Yimu, who had returned. He was startled, fell, and injured his left leg, which quickly swelled like a pig's trotters. Luo Qinge was immediately remorseful and rushed to tend to his injury. As she applied medicine, Chen Yimu took the opportunity to explain his interactions with Lin Xue.
He recounted how he had seen Lin Xue being swindled by a street vendor who accused her of using a fake 100 yuan bill. Though he couldn't get the money back from the stubborn vendor, he later gave Lin Xue 100 yuan of his own, pretending he had retrieved it, because he saw she hadn’t eaten lunch. He explained that he had the spare money because he had decided not to buy the expensive basketball shoes.
Luo Qinge’s misunderstanding was finally cleared, and she understood his good intentions. Knowing Chen Yimu's old sneakers were two years old and that he couldn't afford new ones, Luo Qinge secretly bought him a pair of limited edition, size 44 basketball shoes and placed them in his desk. Chen Yimu was overjoyed upon finding them and, realizing they were from her, approached her.
He offered to pay her back, but Luo Qinge firmly refused, questioning why he would offer to pay her when he accepted Lin Xue's gift without question. She then challenged him, saying that if he truly wanted to repay her, he should win the city league championship and break Yiling High's "curse of being runner-up for ages," as the school had consistently placed second for three years. Chen Yimu readily accepted her challenge.
Meanwhile, Zhang Haotian once again suggested a group study session at the book café with Lin Xingchen. However, Lu Yibai advised Lin Xingchen to make an excuse, asserting that five people studying together was inefficient and that he didn't want to spend two hours tutoring her over the phone later. He told her to meet him at the bus stop after school, while he would ride his bike.
But after school, Lu Yibai spotted Zhang Haotian near the bike parking area. To avoid him, Lu Yibai abandoned his bike and walked with Lin Xingchen to the book café, making up an excuse about strong winds and stating they would take the bus home later. While studying, their hands accidentally brushed while reaching for food, causing Lin Xingchen to gasp and mistakenly drink from Lu Yibai's cup to compose herself. Lu Yibai, however, seemed quietly pleased by the incident.
After their study session, Lu Yibai and Lin Xingchen took the public bus home. It was a new experience for Lu Yibai, who usually rode his bike, to navigate the crowded peak-hour bus. Lin Xingchen even commented that this day was less crowded than usual. Several times, the sudden stops caused them to be pressed close together. Witnessing Lin Xingchen's daily commute struggles, Lu Yibai offered to ride his bicycle and take her home in the future. However, Lin Xingchen politely declined, explaining that their homes were far apart, and she had grown accustomed to the bus, humorously adding that "crowding is good for your health."
