As the tense standoff between You Xi and Yin Jiu continued, a production staff member arrived to summon Assistant Teacher Yuchi, Yao Yao, to a meeting with the director. You Xi released Yin Jiu and, in a show of possessiveness, adjusted Yao Yao’s assistant teacher badge. To his shock, Yin Jiu then produced and donned his own assistant teacher badge. A stunned You Xi immediately called his manager, Zhu Dazhuang, to demand an explanation, but Zhu Dazhuang was evasive.
Yin Jiu then taunted You Xi, stating that if he were to quit the show, Yao Yao would lose her position as his assistant. Later, Yin Jiu approached Yao Yao alone. He questioned the legitimacy of her internship with You Xi, insinuating that You Xi was uncultured, lacked proper business licenses, and failed to provide benefits. He also offered a long-overdue apology for his past infidelity, which Yao Yao accepted, making it clear she wished to move on.
During the crew's mock examination, You Xi was visibly annoyed to see Yin Jiu among the proctors. Both he and Pan Duo were completely unprepared for the test. When strict rules against cheating were announced, You Xi declared he wanted to forfeit. Wen Moxuan arrived late and, after greeting Pan Duo, warmly acknowledged Yao Yao as his "good friend."
Throughout the exam, You Xi repeatedly tried to cheat off Yao Yao, first by feigning a broken pen and then by discreetly asking for answers, but she firmly refused to help. In desperation, he attempted to peek at Pan Duo's paper, only to be stopped by Yin Jiu. Before leaving, Yin Jiu admitted to Yao Yao that he had finished his exam half an hour earlier but lingered just for the chance to look at her.
Ultimately, You Xi was the last to submit his paper, which was completely blank. Afterward, You Xi complained to Yao Yao in the library, frustrated by her refusal to help him cheat and questioning if she had known about Yin Jiu’s role. She denied any prior knowledge. As she tutored him on the historical event of "Lü Bu's Halberd Toss," helping him see the strategist's cunning, she abruptly announced she had to leave for the airport to pick someone up.
In a taxi, Yao Yao met her father, Professor Yuchi Lin Sen, who was returning from an archaeological trip. She informed him that their house had caught fire and was undergoing renovations, reassuring him that she was safe and staying with a friend. When he asked about Yin Jiu, whom he called a "good kid," Yao Yao gave a noncommittal reply.
In the dorm, while playing cards with his roommate Wen Moxuan, You Xi loudly played a voice message from Yao Yao to feign intimacy. However, the message only contained reminders to study and notes on his typos, causing him to cut it off in embarrassment. He then complained that she never showed personal concern like other assistants.
The next day at breakfast, Wen Moxuan offered Yao Yao a specialty meat pie from the school cafeteria, mentioning he saw on social media that she liked them. Immediately, Yin Jiu appeared and offered her a meat pie as well. A visibly jealous You Xi snatched a pie, then possessively declared that Yao Yao, whom he called "Little Blockhead," no longer eats pies and prefers noodles, pointedly looking at his rivals.
Later, a troubled You Xi called his friend Qi Chao for advice. He lamented that he had woken up early to buy a meat pie for Yao Yao, only for her to refuse it due to an upset stomach. He framed his problem using a convoluted metaphor about his "friend's secretary" being pursued by her ex-boyfriend (Yin Jiu) and a "department manager" (Wen Moxuan).
Qi Chao saw through the facade and advised him that giving a girl a "sense of security" is crucial. Their conversation was cut short when they had to flee from campus security. During a basketball game, You Xi accidentally injured Yin Jiu with the ball. In the infirmary, he initially refused to apologize, but under Yao Yao's insistent gaze, he reluctantly muttered his regrets.
Yin Jiu then tried to get Yao Yao to feed him his medicine, reminiscing about a time she had done so in the past. Yao Yao refused, pointing out his hand wasn't injured, and an assistant stepped in to help. Shortly after, the cast was assembled to meet a special guest professor. You Xi grumbled about the professor's arrogance and vowed to retort if the professor was harsh. To everyone's surprise, the professor was Yao Yao's father, Yuchi Lin Sen.
He privately questioned Yao Yao about her work, mistaking her role as an assistant to an actor for working with an opera troupe. He then announced a surprise test on the history of Jingzhou. You Xi found Yao Yao preparing the test answers and tried to trick her into sharing them by feigning a broken phone and asking to use her laptop.
Seeing through his plan, Yao Yao deliberately opened the answer file and deleted its contents, explaining that their existence would only be a distraction from real learning. That night, You Xi received a birthday video call from his parents but quickly brushed them off, preoccupied with his own thoughts. After hanging up, he checked his phone for birthday wishes but was disappointed to see no message from Yao Yao. He tried calling her, but her line was busy. Frustrated, he snapped at his roommate for simply looking at him.
