All Rise Episode 4 Recap
> All Rise Recap
After a disheartening phone call from his mother, Jiang Chen found Ren Jiatong engaging in a lively conversation with an elderly man. Ren Jiatong personally escorted the man home, where she learned that a recently released film bore a striking resemblance to a story he had written years ago. Suspecting a copyright infringement, Ren Jiatong offered her contact information, promising to connect him with lawyers from Jun An should he decide to pursue legal action.
Meanwhile, Yan Fei spotted Zhou An rushing to a blind date arranged by his family. Experiencing similar pressures to marry, she offered him a ride. In the car, Zhou An explained that to afford a down payment on a larger home for his marriage, his parents had sold their house. However, his prospective partner now wanted a separate house, placing an even greater financial burden on him. Yan Fei, realizing the depth of his struggles, decided not to pry further.
Zhou An then headed back to the law firm to work overtime, driven by his responsibilities. At the community service center, Jiang Chen's legal consultation duties devolved into mundane tasks like finding a lost cat and walking a dog, much to Ren Jiatong's amusement when she arrived. Her laughter was short-lived, however, as she received an urgent email from Bai Xiao demanding a complete revision of a report, prompting her to rush back to the law firm.
That evening, Jiang Chen called Ren Jiatong, informing her that the elderly man intended to sue. Jiang Chen expressed doubts about winning, citing a lack of "access requirements" since the man's script was unpublished—a stance that had already greatly agitated the elder. Ren Jiatong criticized Jiang Chen's handling of the situation, emphasizing the need for emotional understanding before offering legal solutions, especially to elderly clients.
She also clarified that in Chinese judicial practice, proving "access requirements" only necessitates demonstrating a possibility of access, not absolute proof. Jiang Chen, however, remained rigid, asserting that he would speak factually to anyone. Frustrated, Ren Jiatong abruptly ended the call. Later that night, Bai Xiao returned from her business trip to find Ren Jiatong still working on the revised report.
Bai Xiao acknowledged Ren Jiatong's thorough legal research but pointed out the absence of a definitive conclusion, which was her primary expectation. She also highlighted formatting issues and several typos, warning that such simple mistakes could erode client trust and negate all of Ren Jiatong's hard work. Bai Xiao advised Ren Jiatong that the legal profession needs leaders who can efficiently solve problems and manage teams, not just solitary hard workers.
She urged Ren Jiatong to learn to seek help and collaborate, emphasizing that professional expertise and team management skills are vital for a future partner. Inspired, Ren Jiatong reached out to Jiang Chen, inviting him to collaborate on the medical dispute case. The following day, Ren Jiatong and Jiang Chen worked seamlessly together. During their collaboration, Jiang Chen shared an update on the copyright case.
He revealed that while most film companies had ignored the man's submissions, the studio behind the allegedly infringing movie had replied to one email, and the sender's signature was a personal name. Jiang Chen speculated that finding this name in the movie credits could establish proof of prior access.
Ren Jiatong apologized for her harsh words during their earlier call, but Jiang Chen dismissed it, adding that he was also motivated to work on Bai Xiao's case for his own growth. Meanwhile, Guo Xiaoyu extended her rental agreement for another month, officially becoming Ren Jiatong's roommate. Ren Jiatong immediately laid out three rules for their shared living space.
Guo Xiaoyu confided in Ren Jiatong about her struggles at Jun An, but Ren Jiatong bluntly challenged her to either commit to staying and stop complaining or leave and save the rent money. Later, when Guo Xiaoyu mentioned her long-distance boyfriend missed her cooking, Ren Jiatong provocatively suggested he should be the one to move to Beijing. Ren Jiatong's mood brightened after receiving a "GOOD" reply from Bai Xiao.
Concurrently, Jiang Chen confirmed the email signatory was the film's script supervisor. Ren Jiatong then rewatched the movie and discovered a dialect phrase from the man's script had been used incorrectly in the film, believing this could be crucial evidence. She proposed leveraging online platforms to amplify the case, but Jiang Chen expressed reservations, fearing it would unduly influence judicial proceedings with public opinion. Their argument was interrupted by Guo Xiaoyu.
Zhou An announced a new assessment: a portrait rights infringement case involving celebrity Ms. Xiao. A plastic surgery hospital allegedly used a cartoon resembling Ms. Xiao in an advertisement without her permission. Jun An was representing Ms. Xiao, and partner Zhuang Xin granted the interns special permission to participate, with a three-day deadline. Huang Yue approached Zhou An, expressing anxiety that the final retention spots would go to Ren Jiatong and Jiang Chen.
Zhou An reassured her, sharing his own journey and emphasizing that the legal profession is a marathon where persistence is key. Huang Yue regained her confidence. Around the same time, lawyer Tian Min, another "workaholic," returned from maternity leave, confiding that the chaos at home made the office a peaceful escape. During the initial case briefing, Ren Jiatong advocated for immediate legal action, while Jiang Chen urged for cautious evidence gathering.
Given the divergence, Zhuang Xin divided them into two teams: Ren Jiatong with Huang Yue and Wang Lu; Jiang Chen with Guo Xiaoyu, Yan Fei, and Li Ke. That evening, after a video call with her boyfriend, Zhu Zhisheng, Guo Xiaoyu inadvertently left her laptop, containing their team's discussion notes, in the living room. She noticed Ren Jiatong in the living room afterward but didn't suspect anything. The next day, Ren Jiatong's team presented first due to Guo Xiaoyu's tardiness.
Their proposed solution was strikingly similar to Jiang Chen's team's. Suspecting plagiarism, a devastated Guo Xiaoyu called Zhu Zhisheng, expressing her desire to leave Beijing. He promised to come get her. Li Ke was frustrated that Guo Xiaoyu didn't confront Ren Jiatong, but Jiang Chen cautioned against hasty conclusions without proof, asserting his belief in Ren Jiatong's professional integrity.
