> Resumos de Never Gone
The next morning, Cheng Zheng was still at Su Yunjin's home. He woke her up, playfully telling her the sun was already high. He had borrowed a punt from a neighbor to help deliver her mother's lanterns. Su Yunjin was annoyed by his sudden appearance and unconventional delivery method, worrying he would ruin the lanterns. When neighbors mistakenly assumed Cheng Zheng was her boyfriend and invited him over, Su Yunjin quickly corrected them, stating he was just a schoolmate.
To ensure the lanterns' safe delivery, she reluctantly agreed to go with him. She instructed him to shut up and sit still, threatening to send him away immediately after they finished. Cheng Zheng countered that if she delayed him, he might miss his ride and have to stay another night. As Su Yunjin expertly rowed the boat, Cheng Zheng leisurely enjoyed the scenery. They observed various river businesses, and Cheng Zheng commented on how relaxing it seemed.
Su Yunjin, however, pointed out that he couldn't even row properly. Upon reaching their destination, Mr. Jin, the buyer, noted that while the lanterns were well-made, they weren't quite as good as Su Yunjin's mother's. Su Yunjin encouraged him to provide any feedback. Mr. Jin also asked if Cheng Zheng was her friend, to which Su Yunjin again clarified he was just a schoolmate.
After settling the payment for thirty lanterns, Su Yunjin turned to leave, telling Cheng Zheng to return the boat himself. Cheng Zheng claimed he couldn't row and dramatically carried her back onto the boat, making her promise to accompany him before releasing her. He then boasted that he had quickly learned how to row. Meanwhile, Shen Juan, after calling Zhang Yue to inquire about her breakfast preferences, was told by her to come upstairs.
She directed him to the refrigerator where her assistant, Xiao Bei, had stocked eggs, bread, and cheese. Zhang Yue was pleased with the Western breakfast Shen Juan prepared, remarking that his cooking was much better than his coffee. She told him not to be so formal, reminding him they weren't in the office and that calling her "Mdm Zhang" made her feel old, asking him to use her first name instead. Shen Juan remained somewhat reserved.
Zhang Yue confided that she never wanted to run a company or be a boss, finding the idea of inheriting the family business tiresome since childhood. She was only doing it because her father had made a deal: if she successfully closed several projects and established the internet subsidiary, he would fund her dream of opening a small bar.
She stressed Shen Juan's importance, saying that while the older employees were her father's "eyes," Shen Juan "must be on my side." Shen Juan thanked her for breakfast and offered to get her car, but she insisted he wasn't a chauffeur and could just come downstairs with her when her driver arrived. She playfully asked if he was nervous because he had done something wrong.
Back in the riverside town, Cheng Zheng led Su Yunjin to a men's clothing store, despite her protests. He held onto her bag, telling her it was for her own good. The shop owner initially mistook Cheng Zheng for Su Yunjin's boyfriend. Cheng Zheng then chided Su Yunjin for forgetting to buy a wedding gift for Uncle Ding.
They discussed options, and Cheng Zheng convinced her to buy a festive dark red shirt for Uncle Ding, arguing that it was a celebratory occasion. He then boldly picked out a white shirt for himself, insisting Su Yunjin pay for it as thanks for his help. She was annoyed but paid for both shirts after he bargained the price down. Cheng Zheng tried on his new white shirt, proudly declaring it the "only standard to test a handsome guy."
He refused to take it off, saying it was his now and he wouldn't return the money. Su Yunjin called him childish, to which he retorted about her forgetting her family's wedding gift. Su Yunjin then genuinely thanked him for reminding her, admitting she would have forgotten otherwise. He, in turn, said he preferred her scolding him. Later, Su Yunjin presented the red shirt to Uncle Ding.
He was deeply touched by the gift, initially hesitant to accept such a nice shirt given his work at the construction site, but he eventually tried it on and thanked her profusely. He also reassured her that he could handle the construction site matters and that her mother would be well cared for. As Cheng Zheng and Su Yunjin prepared to leave, Uncle Ding asked Cheng Zheng to take good care of her.
On the path back to the school, Cheng Zheng stopped Su Yunjin, holding out a small bouquet of wildflowers and proposing, "Let's start over." He stated he was willing to let go of past misunderstandings, her intentional actions, or her avoidance of him. Su Yunjin, however, was bewildered, asking what he meant by "start over" when they had never officially been together.
He suggested they begin a relationship now, even with him in Beijing and her in Shanghai, promising frequent visits and contemplating a future where one of them moved to the other's city after graduation, especially since her mother was now settled. Su Yunjin sharply dismissed his suggestions, emphasizing that there was "nothing special between us." Cheng Zheng then accused her of being in denial, insisting she actually liked him and not Shen Juan, whom she claimed was her boyfriend.
Su Yunjin firmly denied liking Cheng Zheng, calling him conceited and stating that her choices—to go to Shanghai and be with Shen Juan—were her own, and he had no right to interfere. She reiterated that she didn't want to go to Beijing or be with him. Cheng Zheng challenged her, asking if she was truly happy with Shen Juan, and questioned why he, not Shen Juan, was by her side when she needed help the most.
Su Yunjin countered that she never asked for his help and could solve her own problems. While grateful for his assistance, she clarified that she didn't "need" it. She ended the conversation definitively by stating, "I don't like you. Got it?" Cheng Zheng simply replied, "No, I didn't." Back at school, Su Yunjin met with Shen Juan.
He checked on her mother and acknowledged Su Yunjin's busy schedule with her internship at Hengkai Group and upcoming graduation, urging her to take care of herself and to at least call him if they couldn't meet. Meanwhile, Mo Yuhua found Su Yunjin talking to Shen Juan and asked where Cheng Zheng was. Su Yunjin feigned ignorance, saying she didn't know and it was none of her concern.
Annoyed, Mo Yuhua followed Su Yunjin, demanding to know Cheng Zheng's whereabouts and why Su Yunjin kept abandoning him for others. Su Yunjin simply told her to continue following. Mo Yuhua then called Cheng Zheng, who was found drinking alone in a bar. Zhou Ziyi joined him, commenting on Cheng Zheng's gloomy mood and suggesting he give up on Su Yunjin, who wasn't worth so much trouble.
Cheng Zheng refused, bitterly questioning why Shen Juan seemed to have her while he, Cheng Zheng, was supposedly inferior. He then questioned a previous phone conversation where Zhou Ziyi mentioned someone sending Su Yunjin home, expressing his disdain for Shen Juan's "gentleman" act. Suddenly, Zhou Ziyi spotted Shen Juan entering the bar alone and quickly pointed him out to Cheng Zheng. Both were surprised by Shen Juan's presence.
Cheng Zheng wanted to confront him, but Zhou Ziyi resisted, not wanting to spy on a "love rival." Cheng Zheng pressured him, and Zhou Ziyi reluctantly agreed, noting he'd expect a favor in return. Shen Juan formally greeted Zhang Yue, who was waiting at a table, still calling her "Mdm Zhang." Zhang Yue directed him to sit, commenting on the clear Shanghai sky and her rare free time from client dinners, offering him some wine from a friend's vineyard.
Shen Juan, still maintaining professionalism, again called her "Mdm Zhang." Zhang Yue reiterated that they weren't in a work setting, asking him to call her by her name and not "sister," as it made her feel old. Shen Juan seemed nervous. She added that she had been happy lately, even with work. Cheng Zheng, seeing Shen Juan and Zhang Yue together, stormed over. Zhang Yue, unfazed by Cheng Zheng's appearance, simply noted, "This night is ruined."
She then asked Shen Juan if he wanted to go to her place or home. After Cheng Zheng left the bar in a huff, Shen Juan offered to leave as well, but Zhang Yue, claiming to be tipsy, asked him to drive her. Outside, Cheng Zheng saw them, refused to ride with Zhang Yue, and told her to get a taxi.
As Shen Juan drove Zhang Yue and Cheng Zheng home, Cheng Zheng stared at Zhang Yue, who told him to either speak or stop looking at her. After dropping them off, Zhang Yue told Shen Juan that he could come later the next day and she would call him. Cheng Zheng immediately confronted Zhang Yue, demanding to know her relationship with Shen Juan. She evasively asked what he thought.
Cheng Zheng stated he didn't know their relationship but was certain Shen Juan was "not a good person." Zhang Yue casually dismissed his concerns, calling Shen Juan a "new recruit" who was quite diligent. Cheng Zheng pressed further, questioning why a new recruit was drinking with her, driving her car, and knew where she lived. Zhang Yue retorted that Cheng Zheng also knew where she lived, but he was her cousin; Shen Juan was different.
She urged Cheng Zheng to calm down, but he refused. Zhang Yue then teased him, suggesting that if she and Shen Juan were truly together, Cheng Zheng would no longer have a rival. She noted his transparent nature, recounting how he once pretended to stay and play soccer for Zhou Ziyi, but she knew it was for "that girl."
Pulling him closer, she advised him that pursuing a girl wasn't easy and offered her guidance, so he should "butter her up." Cheng Zheng rejected her advice, warning her not to "sacrifice herself" and firmly stating that neither she nor Su Yunjin should be with Shen Juan. Zhang Yue pretended to be touched by his concern. Cheng Zheng again questioned what was so good about Shen Juan.
Zhang Yue listed his qualities: mature, caring, responsible, and even "more handsome than you," adding that he made her good breakfast. Cheng Zheng was shocked to learn Shen Juan had made her breakfast, which Zhang Yue confirmed, telling him not to "draw conclusions, kid." Cheng Zheng declared that he couldn't let "that silly Su Yunjin" be played by them.
He tried to leave, but Zhang Yue stopped him, asserting that if a girl truly wanted to be with him, she would only see him; if not, even without Shen Juan, other suitors would appear. She provocatively suggested, "maybe everyone else is better off with her." Cheng Zheng, exasperated, asked if she meant Shen Juan was better suited for Su Yunjin.
Zhang Yue clarified that she didn't know who was better for Su Yunjin, but she thought "Shen Juan is better off with me." She then locked Cheng Zheng in her apartment for the night, informing him she had booked him a flight to Beijing for the next morning. She advised him not to be too pushy when pursuing a girl and to give her time to think things through.
Late that night, Cheng Zheng used his phone to call Su Yunjin's dorm. He apologized for the late call, saying he wanted to tell her something. As he began, "I think that Shen Juan, he. . ." , Su Yunjin abruptly hung up the phone. Cheng Zheng, frustrated, called her a fool.
