Meanwhile, at a billiards hall, Cheng Zheng excused himself to make a call.
He called Su Yunjin, happily reporting that he hadn't had any alcohol and asking if she wanted fried rice for dinner, promising to be home soon. After his call, he encountered Meng Xue, who was heavily intoxicated and stumbling. Recognizing her as an old high school friend, he guided her into his colleagues' private room and asked a colleague, Xiao Liu, to look after her.
Cheng Zheng then immediately called Song Ming, explaining Meng Xue's state and location, urging Song Ming, who was fond of Meng Xue, to come and take care of her before heading home himself. Back home, Su Yunjin was still working when Cheng Zheng arrived with her fried rice. He encouraged her to eat and told her he had already spoken with Zhang Yue and Shen Juan, making things clear.

As they ate, Su Yunjin found a long strand of female hair on his clothes. Cheng Zheng nervously denied it was his, then quickly explained his encounter with Meng Xue at the KTV, stating she had stumbled and fallen onto him. He insisted he couldn't ignore an old classmate, so he helped her into his colleagues' room and immediately left to call Song Ming, only departing after Song Ming arrived.
Su Yunjin accepted his explanation and told him she believed him, not taking it to heart or getting angry. The next morning, Cheng Zheng saw Su Yunjin still working on the project and remarked on her continuous effort. She informed him that she had just finished it. He eagerly urged her to call Shen Juan immediately, tell him the project was complete, email it over, and instruct him not to contact her again. Su Yunjin made the call on speakerphone.
She informed Shen Juan that the project was finished and would be sent to his email. She also stated that she would make regular monthly payments to repay her debt and requested that they cease all contact, ending their association. Shen Juan simply thanked her. Pleased with the outcome, Cheng Zheng suggested they go see a movie. Su Yunjin agreed but reminded him he needed to accompany her to Zhou Ziyi's discharge the following day.
As they set out for their movie date, Su Yunjin presented Cheng Zheng with a ready-made scarf, explaining she had planned to knit one but was too busy. Suddenly, a heavy rain started pouring. Cheng Zheng humorously remarked that it was a good time to test his strength and playfully carried Su Yunjin. She urged him to cover himself with the umbrella to avoid catching a cold, teasing that she wouldn't take care of him if he did.
He, in turn, joked about tossing her into a puddle if she didn't listen. They ducked into a jewelry store for shelter. Inside, Su Yunjin decided to buy a necklace for Cheng Zheng's mother, making him jest about her already acting like family. Cheng Zheng then spotted a ring and wanted to buy it for Su Yunjin, mentioning a discount. However, Su Yunjin declined, insisting that a meaningful gift should be bought with his own salary, not his parents' money.
He agreed and said he would buy it a few months later. After purchasing the necklace for his mother, they left. Later, everyone gathered to celebrate Zhou Ziyi's recovery and discharge. Jin Zi, hosting the celebration at his home, jokingly apologized for not booking a grand hotel, blaming his current financial situation.
Su Yunjin lightheartedly reminded Zhou Ziyi that his doctor had forbidden him from playing football for a year, to which Zhou Ziyi sighed that he was "no longer the young man who pursues his dreams." During the festivities, which included a New Year's countdown and fireworks, Mo Yuhua made a significant announcement: she was going overseas to study and might not see them for some time. Mo Yuhua calmly explained it wasn't sudden, drawing a parallel to his own marriage, stating that once the thought was there, she simply acted on it. She revealed she planned to go to Dublin. The group expressed their surprise at how quickly she was leaving, with someone pointing out she was leaving next week. Mo Yuhua apologized for the suddenness and shared emotional hugs with her friends, with Jin Zi even shedding tears of sorrow.
Later that night, as Su Yunjin reflected on Mo Yuhua's departure, she expressed sadness, admitting she didn't know what she would do without her. Mo Yuhua affectionately called her a "silly girl," reminding her that she now had Cheng Zheng and should "treasure him" as "he loves you very much." When Su Yunjin asked if Mo Yuhua had considered Jin Zi, Mo Yuhua replied that her mind was now solely focused on "viruses, cells, and scalpels."
Meanwhile, Cheng Zheng continued to press Zhou Ziyi about his marriage to Chen Jie Jie, speculating that Chen Jie Jie didn't truly care for him. He even joked that if Zhou Ziyi weren't married, he would have tried to set him up with Mo Yuhua, commenting on their emotional farewell hug, which he likened to a "love story between a human and a ghost."
Zhou Ziyi defended himself, pointing out that Jin Zi's hug with Mo Yuhua was even more intense and clingy, but admitted that his relationship with Chen Jie Jie was a case of "one thing to overcome another," and that he was Chen Jie Jie's "kryptonite," effectively subdued by her. Tired of the topic, Zhou Ziyi urged Cheng Zheng to talk about something happier on his discharge day, eventually telling him to "go away" so he could sleep.
Unbeknownst to them, Zhang Jinmeng, Zhang Yue's father, had discovered that Shen Juan had secretly established his own company outside Hengkai, using the company's resources for his personal projects and involving Su Yunjin. He revealed this to Zhang Yue, having known about it for several months but choosing to let her discover it on her own.
Zhang Yue was shocked, realizing that Cheng Zheng's earlier reports about Su Yunjin helping Shen Juan, supposedly for Hengkai's projects, were actually about Shen Juan's illicit activities. Zhang Jinmeng confirmed that he had witnesses and evidence, and told Zhang Yue that the decision on how to proceed was now hers. Deeply distressed, Zhang Yue called Shen Juan, demanding his immediate presence at the office. She then called Cheng Zheng to her office late at night.
Cheng Zheng initially assumed she was upset about a project, but Zhang Yue tearfully explained Shen Juan's deception: the project Su Yunjin worked on was for Shen Juan's private company, not Hengkai, and he was using company resources. Cheng Zheng confirmed that the income from these projects matched Shen Juan's personal bank account. He was furious that Su Yunjin had been unknowingly involved.
Cheng Zheng immediately decided to go home and confront Su Yunjin, but Zhang Yue tried to stop him, urging him to get the full story first. She also admitted her hesitation to confront Shen Juan herself, fearing it would end their marriage. Cheng Zheng sternly rebuked her, telling her to "wake up" and face the truth, reminding her that her own father, Zhang Jinmeng, was aware of the situation and expected her to handle it.
He declared he couldn't offer comfort if she continued to defend Shen Juan. With that, Cheng Zheng angrily left the office. Moments later, Zhang Yue received a call from Shen Juan, but she hesitated, unable to answer. Cheng Zheng returned home, where Su Yunjin was still awake and working. She asked if he had gone out for a late-night snack, as he sometimes did.
He told her Zhang Yue had called him, then immediately asked if she was hiding anything from him. Su Yunjin denied it, but Cheng Zheng revealed that the project she completed for Shen Juan was for his private company, built using Hengkai's resources, and that Zhang Yue had informed him. He expressed his embarrassment over the situation. Su Yunjin was shocked and repeatedly insisted she "really didn't know" about Shen Juan's deceit.
Cheng Zheng chastised her for not asking more questions and for her and Zhang Yue being "stupid" enough to be fooled by Shen Juan. Su Yunjin's colleague was also present, overhearing their argument. Su Yunjin attempted to postpone the conversation until the next day, but Cheng Zheng refused. She ultimately admitted her fault for not being more careful and for agreeing so easily. Cheng Zheng, still angry, stated that she shouldn't have even met Shen Juan.
As the argument subsided, their colleague commented on the fighting. Cheng Zheng, opting for space, decided to sleep on the sofa. Su Yunjin brought him a blanket. The colleague then offered Su Yunjin some unsolicited relationship advice, claiming more experience in dating.
