> Resumos de Never Gone
Cheng Zheng arrived in Shanghai for a competition, keeping his participation a secret from his parents. His friend, Zhou Ziyi, teased him about it, suggesting he should just tell his father, who was one of the judges. Cheng Zheng, however, was determined to win based on his own merit. He stated that his father could be a judge, and he would participate in the competition.
If he entered the top ten through the blind selection process, it would be solely due to his own ability, unrelated to his father's position. Zhou Ziyi's birthday was approaching, and he hadn't decided how to celebrate.
He mused about spending the 100,000 RMB he had from his father, Zhou Changming, but Cheng Zheng quickly shut down the idea, urging him to return the money to his dad, threatening to expose him if his father ever asked Cheng Zheng about it. For Zhou Ziyi's birthday, Su Yunjin presented him with a cake, emphasizing that a birthday should always include one.
Cheng Zheng proudly declared that he had already given Zhou Ziyi the latest game device, which would be regularly updated for endless play. Mo Yuhua, for her part, brought a meticulously handmade photo album. While arranging the flowers on the album, she had worried if it looked "too girly" or "feminine," but decided to keep them for the overall aesthetic, hoping Zhou Ziyi would like it.
As Zhou Ziyi flipped through the album, he came across an old photo of himself and Mo Yuhua from high school. Cheng Zheng chimed in, recalling it was from September 25, 2003, when Zhou Ziyi lost a penalty kick to him in a soccer match, providing "proof" of Cheng Zheng's victory. Embarrassed by what he called "black history," Zhou Ziyi impulsively tore the photo in half, claiming such things shouldn't be kept.
Mo Yuhua watched in stunned silence, her heart breaking. Later, the four friends gathered for hotpot. Su Yunjin raised a glass to Zhou Ziyi, expressing deep gratitude for his help with the money, and quickly drank it. Cheng Zheng scolded her for drinking and advised her to ensure Zhou Ziyi returned the money to his father to avoid any future complications.
Zhou Ziyi, clearly already quite drunk from having consumed several bottles of alcohol, accepted Cheng Zheng's protective stance towards Su Yunjin and agreed not to mention the money again, finding the topic awkward. Soon after, Zhou Ziyi excused himself to get some air, stumbling out, with Mo Yuhua discreetly following him. Alone at the table, Cheng Zheng attentively served Su Yunjin vegetables.
He then took the opportunity to apologize for his earlier attempt to help Uncle Ding secure a project, acknowledging that his "good intentions" had made her uncomfortable. He pleaded with her to stop treating him like an enemy, finding their dynamic strained. Su Yunjin denied seeing him as an enemy but then said he could think what he wished. Suddenly, they heard Zhou Ziyi violently vomiting outside.
Cheng Zheng sprang into action, telling Mo Yuhua he would take the incapacitated Zhou Ziyi home and asking her to call a taxi for herself and grab Zhou Ziyi's bag. A very drunk Zhou Ziyi began to ramble about Meng Jia and Senior Hu, insisting that even if they were a couple, they should still remain friends. He then slurred that Mo Yuhua was "the best."
Cheng Zheng, exasperated, told Mo Yuhua to ignore his drunken ramblings and hailed a cab. As they left, Cheng Zheng handed Mo Yuhua cash, telling her to pay the bill and that he would get the money back from Zhou Ziyi later. Once Cheng Zheng and Zhou Ziyi were gone, a restaurant staff member kindly returned Mo Yuhua's forgotten photo album to her. Mo Yuhua, clutching the photo album, confided in Su Yunjin about her long-held feelings for Zhou Ziyi.
She recalled first seeing him in her freshman year of high school when a classmate asked her to photograph a boy she liked, thinking Mo Yuhua's "unremarkable" appearance wouldn't draw attention. However, when Mo Yuhua developed the film, she realized there were far more photos of Zhou Ziyi than the boy her classmate liked. From then on, she loved taking pictures of Zhou Ziyi, finding meaning in everything he did.
She specifically pointed out the torn photo, explaining it was taken after a winning soccer match. She had bravely asked a classmate to take a picture of them together, believing at the time that Zhou Ziyi probably didn't even know her name. Su Yunjin was surprised Mo Yuhua had never shared these feelings before. Mo Yuhua then tearfully wondered aloud why Zhou Ziyi could like so many people, yet she had only ever liked him for so long.
Su Yunjin, heartbroken for her friend, pulled Mo Yuhua into a comforting embrace. Meanwhile, Shen Juan, searching for Zhang Yue at the company, discovered from a colleague, Xiao Bei, that Zhang Yue was occupied with personal matters. Her ex-boyfriend, David, who she had studied with abroad, was visiting Shanghai for a month. Xiao Bei explained that David, an overseas Chinese, had never returned to China, and Zhang Yue planned to show him around.
Xiao Bei also mentioned Zhang Yue had asked her to find a bottle of La Romanee-Conti wine they used to drink in France, but couldn't remember where she placed it. Sensing an opportunity, Shen Juan offered to find and deliver the wine so Xiao Bei could rest. Shen Juan located the wine and, once alone, remarked that Zhang Yue was "really trying hard" and "testing his acting skills."
Upon arriving at the bar, Shen Juan handed the wine to a waiter and observed Zhang Yue and David together. After David left, Zhang Yue got into the car where Shen Juan was waiting. Shen Juan offered her a cup of hot milk he had bought while waiting, which she appreciated.
Zhang Yue then mentioned that David had an appointment with her father, Zhang Jinmeng, at the company headquarters the following day and instructed Shen Juan to pick her up there. She revealed that David was the only boyfriend her father had ever approved of, nearly leading to marriage, and that none of her subsequent boyfriends had met his expectations.
Her father, she explained, valued capable and career-focused individuals, believing they would also be loyal in relationships, a view she now shared. Shen Juan concurred, stating that he also agreed with the chairman's perspective. Later, Shen Juan presented Zhang Yue with a pair of comfortable flat shoes, suggesting she keep them in the car to wear instead of heels. When she asked how he knew her shoe size, he calmly replied that he had asked Xiao Bei.
Zhang Yue accepted the gift and also informed Shen Juan that she had reviewed his proposal and found it acceptable, instructing him to proceed with the budget application. Back home, Cheng Zheng's father, having reviewed the competition results, confronted his son. His mother explained that his father had been up all night tallying the scores. Cheng Zheng, confirming he had received early notification of his top ten selection, asked his father for his opinion on his entry.
His father sharply criticized Cheng Zheng's design for being "fooling around," having "weak fundamentals," a "chaotic structure," and "zero practical experience." He even declared that if he were judging, Cheng Zheng wouldn't have made it into the top 100. Cheng Zheng's mother tried to intervene, reminding her husband that Cheng Zheng was still young and lacked practical experience, and that his entering the top ten proved his talent.
Cheng Zheng argued that the four-hour exam was about design and ideas, and he couldn't have perfected his design even if he stayed longer, adding that his design was perhaps less exaggerated than his father's but "similar." His father, calling him "too young," firmly stated that while architectural styles varied, a "solid basic foundation" was singular and indispensable. He expressed disappointment, saying Cheng Zheng's personality wasn't suited for the profession, despite his professed love for architecture.
His mother, returning with a bowl of warm porridge, learned that the next stage, "Product Description," was scheduled for the following afternoon. She cheerfully announced her plan to have lunch with Jin Meng's family to support Cheng Zheng and "make your dad mad." The following day, Shen Juan requested a half-day leave from Zhang Yue, which she granted, advising him to rest as more pressure awaited.
He then met Su Yunjin at the university canteen, bringing her favorite dishes and apologizing for his delay due to the long queue. He observed that Su Yunjin remained unchanged from when he first met her, still pursuing the same goals. Su Yunjin asked if his constancy was boring, but Shen Juan replied that he admired her unwavering nature, finding it rare. Shen Juan then posed a profound question: "Which is more important, dignity or ideals?"
Su Yunjin asserted that an ideal that required sacrificing dignity was not truly an ideal. Shen Juan shared that his work experience had taught him that sheer effort was insufficient, and pursuing ideals often demanded significant sacrifices. Su Yunjin countered that ideals and dignity were not inherently conflicting, and she rejected the notion of trading dignity for an "ideal." Shen Juan responded that perhaps she hadn't yet encountered something she desired so deeply, adding, "No desire, thus strong."
When Su Yunjin asked why he had wanted to meet, Shen Juan admitted he also had something to say. Before he could speak, Su Yunjin, sensing his unspoken intentions, declared their breakup, stating it was a decision made "just now." She explained that she didn't want to be involved in his choice between ideals and dignity, concluding that while they had shared the most suitable time together, they were now on "different paths."
Later, Zhang Yue and David visited Zhang Jinmeng. Zhang Jinmeng encouraged David to mentor Zhang Yue on work matters, an idea Zhang Yue lightly brushed off, mentioning David's impending marriage in the US. David assured Zhang Jinmeng he would impart all his knowledge. As they exited the building, Shen Juan was waiting. David playfully remarked that with a beautiful boss like Zhang Yue, her employees' girlfriends must surely feel immense pressure. Shen Juan, with a faint smile, calmly responded, "I am single now."
