Zhang Yue pressed him for an explanation, and he revealed that he sought a sense of security, which for him meant truly controlling his own career.
He felt Zhang Jinmeng, Zhang Yue’s father, never respected him or gave him opportunities, constantly rejecting his proposals within the company. This made him want to prove himself capable of winning, not just being in his position because of Zhang Yue. However, he then admitted his biggest mistake was thinking he could use Zhang Yue's love to gain something. Devastated, Zhang Yue asked if he had ever loved her.
Shen Juan replied that he didn't know and hated himself for having a motive, even if love was present. Overwhelmed, Zhang Yue tearfully apologized, blaming herself for his transformation, and desperately pleaded with him to start over, believing they could build a loving and beautiful life together. He apologized for his reaction and expressed how much he cared for her, asking her if they could just be together.
Su Yunjin smiled, and their misunderstanding was resolved. Cheng Zheng then announced to their friends that he and Su Yunjin had reconciled and asked them to hold him accountable if he ever treated her badly, playfully confirming he had slept on the sofa the previous night. Meanwhile, Zhang Yue also made breakfast for Shen Juan, but the atmosphere between them was strained.
Shen Juan mentioned having an appointment with the chairman and, after Zhang Yue alluded to her father's past disapproval of their marriage, quickly left without finishing his meal. Shen Juan then met with Zhang Jinmeng, presenting a divorce agreement, his resignation letter, a bank card, and a work report. He confessed his wrongdoing and stated his willingness to accept any punishment, promising to divorce Zhang Yue and leave without taking any assets, just as he had arrived.
He clarified that while his external company didn't use company human resources, all his personal abilities and resources were gained through the company's platform, and even his business partner, Mr. Jin, was met through Hengkai. Zhang Jinmeng, however, was unimpressed, noting that Shen Juan's actions, from his mistake to his rational handling of the aftermath, were entirely predictable.
He described Shen Juan as "seemingly smart" but lacking "great wisdom," comparing him to a chess player who only sees the next step, not seven or eight moves ahead. Zhang Jinmeng revealed that his past "suppression" of Shen Juan was a deliberate "test" for his character, which Shen Juan had failed. He accepted Shen Juan's resignation and stated that outside business matters would be handled as appropriate.
As for the divorce, he instructed Shen Juan to discuss it with Zhang Yue, emphasizing that he was not the one who married him. Concurrently, Su Yunjin approached Mr. Xu to confess her involvement in Shen Juan's project. She explained that she initially believed it was an internal competition but discovered it was a private, profit-making venture, admitting she had violated company regulations. Mr. Xu acknowledged her integrity, as few others in the company would feel such remorse.
While accepting her resignation, he requested that she properly complete one more project for the company before leaving, stating it was important to "leave honorably." Su Yunjin agreed. Mr. Xu then revealed his own plans to leave MD Network and start a new company with Chuck, offering Su Yunjin a position, believing it would be mutually beneficial.
Su Yunjin confirmed her commitment to completing her current projects honorably but expressed a desire to postpone decisions about her future career path for now. Later, Shen Juan contacted Cheng Zheng by phone to meet. At a cafe, Shen Juan apologized for the trouble he caused. Cheng Zheng, confident in his relationship with Su Yunjin, quickly dismissed any impact on them, stating that Su Yunjin was simply deceived and they had no misunderstandings.
He then challenged Shen Juan, asking if he knew that Zhang Yue also loved him dearly, implying that merely feeling sorry wasn't enough for the pain he caused. Shen Juan admitted his remorse and reiterated his intention to leave Hengkai and divorce Zhang Yue, promising to leave without taking anything. Cheng Zheng retorted that such actions didn't make him "great" and questioned how he intended to compensate Zhang Yue for her hurt.
Before leaving, Shen Juan urged Cheng Zheng to take good care of Su Yunjin, to which Cheng Zheng dismissively called Shen Juan a "coward" from the very beginning. Shortly after, a sullen Zhou Ziyi arrived at the cafe, having tracked Cheng Zheng down. When Cheng Zheng playfully asked about his pregnant wife, Zhou Ziyi revealed that Chen Jie Jie had asked for a divorce, implying she wanted to be with the child's biological father, making him feel superfluous.
Cheng Zheng, recalling his past warnings about the relationship, found the situation absurd, but Zhou Ziyi seemed resigned, admitting he had always known Chen Jie Jie didn't truly love him. Cheng Zheng offered Zhou Ziyi a place to stay and drinks, but Zhou Ziyi declined, not wanting to intrude on Cheng Zheng's "lovey-dovey" household and unable to sleep on his sofa.
When asked if he would tell Mo Yuhua, Zhou Ziyi decided against it, wanting her to pursue her plans to study in Dublin, a decision Cheng Zheng acknowledged as a display of affection. That evening, Su Yunjin was preparing to work overtime with Mr. Xu. Cheng Zheng called her, offering to pick her up. Su Yunjin apologized, explaining that she had to attend a client meeting with Mr. Xu, who wanted her input on their new internet venture.
Cheng Zheng, expressing concern about her overwork, brought hamburgers for her and Mr. Xu to eat on the way to their meeting, promising to pick her up after her meeting. During the meeting at Lanhe Cafe, Cheng Zheng suddenly experienced severe abdominal pain. He called Mo Yuhua, who was at the hospital, describing his generalized pain. Mo Yuhua advised him to come to the emergency room immediately. Cheng Zheng took a taxi to the hospital, where Mo Yuhua met him.
Despite his pain, Cheng Zheng was still insistent on picking up Su Yunjin, but the doctor diagnosed acute appendicitis and urged immediate surgery, explaining the risks of delay. Mo Yuhua tried repeatedly to contact Su Yunjin but was unable to reach her, leaving a voicemail about Cheng Zheng's emergency surgery, as Su Yunjin was still engrossed in her meeting with Mr. Xu.
