She felt like she was an undercover agent unsure if she should continue her mission.
Later that evening, Gu Tianhe reported to Bai Li that all of Eunuch Li's accomplices in the embezzlement case had been arrested and sent to the imperial prison. Bai Li instructed him to interrogate them thoroughly and show no mercy. Bai Li then asked the time, realizing it was 5:45 PM and Chen Youyou had not returned. Gu Tianhe mentioned she had briefly come back to the mansion before going out again, wondering if she was with His Royal Highness.
Bai Li feigned indifference, stating she could go wherever she pleased. However, when Xiao Tiao arrived, relaying Chen Youyou's invitation to the Lake Pavilion, Bai Li immediately rushed out. At the Lake Pavilion, Chen Youyou apologized to Bai Li for moving the spirit tablets without his permission. To show her sincerity, she had prepared river lanterns to pray for his ancestors.

Gu Tianhe arrived and threatened to chop off his "broken" leg, which quickly made Chen Pingzhi stand up and resume work.
Chen Youyou managed to get close to the lotus pond. However, she found herself unable to harm the flowers, feeling guilty about ruining Bai Li's efforts. She struggled with the dilemma between her father's life and Bai Li's success. As she was still agonizing over what to do, Bai Li and Gu Tianhe returned. Gu Tianhe immediately interrogated her, but Chen Youyou, panicking, claimed she was only trying to gather lotus seeds to make lotus seed soup for Bai Li. With the twin lotus flowers now damaged and Madam De's inspection just an hour away, Bai Li was left in a desperate situation, needing to find a solution to complete Madam De's task.
