Su Zhinian facilitated a meeting between Song Qingchun and Mr. Lin Hansheng of Wancheng. Song Qingchun apologized for previously withdrawing their bid and missing an appointment, asking Mr. Lin to give Huateng Land another chance. Mr. Lin, however, stated that any real estate company could handle the Qinghu project, as long as Wancheng didn't lose money, and told Song Qingchun not to waste her time.
Song Qingchun pressed on, reminding him that Qinghu was where his career started and that he wouldn't work with a partner of bad character. Mr. Lin remained unmoved, stating he wouldn't change his mind about what he had lost because of Qinghu. As Mr. Lin started to leave, Su Zhinian intervened, reminding him of his philosophy that there are no deals that can't be negotiated, only a lack of the right bargaining chips.
He emphasized that the Qinghu project was Huateng Land's only way out and promised that they would meet any conditions Mr. Lin proposed. Mr. Lin accepted, but his condition was unusual: he wanted to see Ms. Mei Hanxiang, a retired ballerina, perform again. Song Qingchun was surprised, noting Ms. Mei had been off stage for many years. Mr. Lin said he would only consider their partnership if they could make it happen.
Song Qingchun later speculated that Mr. Lin must deeply admire Ms. Mei, given the old oil painting of her in his room and the numerous tickets he kept. Su Zhinian suggested they focus on how to get Ms. Mei to perform. Song Qingchun proposed a strategy similar to a TV show that reunites lost family members. Before they could press further, the real reporters and security guards arrived, leading to their removal from Ms. Mei’s room. As Su Zhinian and Song Qingchun left, Ms. Mei discovered a photo Su Zhinian had accidentally dropped. It was a picture of a younger Lin Hansheng. She wondered about their connection to him. Later, Song Qingchun learned that Mr. Lin and Ms. Mei shared a past and that their separation was likely due to circumstances beyond their control.
Ms. Mei eventually met Mr. Lin and confronted him about his lies from many years ago. She reminisced about her first performance, getting injured, and how Mr. Lin had custom-made a pair of pointe shoes for her, promising to be responsible for all her shoes for a lifetime. But then, he was sent to Qinghu for five years.
Less than a year later, he sent her a letter claiming he had fallen in love with a local girl and was marrying her. Ms. Mei later learned he never married. Song Qingchun asked Mr. Lin why he lied. He explained that he had an accident in Qinghu, breaking his leg and suffering from a high fever and pneumonia, which left him bedridden for months.
During this time, Ms. Mei’s career was just beginning with a famous dance troupe reaching out to her. To avoid burdening her, he lied about marrying someone else, believing it was the only thing he could do for her. Song Qingchun questioned why he never sought her out, especially since she also remained unmarried. Mr. Lin admitted he still couldn't get over her, but felt he didn't have much time left and didn't want to be a drag on her.
He revealed to Su Zhinian that he had fallen ill again, having undergone tumor surgery, asking him to keep his illness a secret from Ms. Mei. Meanwhile, Cheng Qingcong misunderstood Yan Yuan’s intentions and introduced him to several male acquaintances, believing it would be a form of release for Su Zhinian. Yan Yuan was visibly annoyed by her attempts and left the restaurant. Cheng Qingcong followed, seeking to understand his anger, and almost fell, but Yan Yuan quickly caught her.
At that moment, Yan Yuan received an urgent call from the hospital about a pregnant woman needing emergency surgery due to cerebral hypoxia and hemorrhage. He rushed to the hospital. While he managed to save the baby, the mother tragically passed away. Yan Yuan was deeply saddened and blamed himself for not saving her. Cheng Qingcong found him and returned his wallet, which he had left at the restaurant.
She comforted him, reassuring him that he had done his best and was only a doctor, not a god, and empathetically suggested he must have beautiful memories with his own mother. To avoid neglecting Tang Nuan, Qin Yinan planned a date, obtaining tickets for the American Ballet Theater’s tour in Haicheng. He decided to take Tang Nuan, who was delighted that he remembered her love for ballet, though she mentioned her favorite ballerina was Alina Somova from Russia.
Qin Yinan promised to take her to see Alina perform if the opportunity arose. Song Qingchun was determined to help Mr. Lin and Ms. Mei reconcile. She discussed her view on love with Su Zhinian, stating that loving partners should rely on each other, trust each other, and face all difficulties together, rather than one person bearing everything for the other’s "own good."
She promised to tell Ms. Mei about Mr. Lin’s illness, despite Su Zhinian's promise to Mr. Lin not to. Su Zhinian disagreed, so Song Qingchun challenged him, saying she would convince Mr. Lin to be honest himself by the time of the performance tomorrow. They made a bet. The next day, Song Qingchun attempted to speak with Ms. Mei, but Su Zhinian intervened by inducing a pollen allergy in Song Qingchun, forcing her to leave.
Undeterred, Song Qingchun approached Mr. Lin Hansheng. She tricked him by saying Ms. Mei had no family and might not have anyone in her life, asking if he would still care for her. When Mr. Lin showed immediate concern, Song Qingchun revealed her deception, explaining she wanted him to understand Ms. Mei's feelings. She passionately argued that Ms. Mei wanted a partner who would not only care for her but also be cared for by her.
Simultaneously, Su Zhinian found Ms. Mei and revealed that Mr. Lin had bought tickets to all her performances but never attended because he was afraid of seeing her and not being able to let go, finding solace only in an old painting of her dancing. Ms. Mei realized she owed Mr. Lin a commitment. During the performance, Song Qingchun, watching from the audience, believed Mr. Lin wouldn't show up.
However, after the show, Ms. Mei, as she had done after her first performance, danced alone on the stage. Then, Mr. Lin appeared, walking onto the stage with a pair of pointe shoes. He confessed his illness and asked if he could spend his remaining time caring for and accompanying her. Ms. Mei accepted the shoes, and they embraced. Song Qingchun watched, tears streaming down her face, and Su Zhinian, ever attentive, handed her a tissue.
Later, while eating dumplings, Song Qingchun and Su Zhinian discussed their bet. Song Qingchun declared it a draw, saying they both won since the couple was reunited. She suggested they both promise each other one thing. Song Qingchun asked Su Zhinian to take her to Haicheng's famous night market, a place Qin Yinan used to praise. Su Zhinian, annoyed by the mention of Qin Yinan, initially declined, but eventually, the pair went to the night market.
