Lu Yibai carefully applied medicine to Lin Xingchen’s injured knee in the infirmary. Shortly after, Zhang Haotian arrived with a bottle of water and a band-aid, asking Lu Yibai to give them to Lin Xingchen. However, Lu Yibai simply took the water and drank it himself. During computer class, where seats remained unchanged, Zhang Haotian secretly messaged Lin Xingchen, offering to give her a ride home after school. Lin Xingchen quickly declined his offer.
Seeing their exchange, Lu Yibai then offered to take her home. However, Lin Xingchen, focused on asking to be excused from the classroom cleanup, initially misunderstood his offer. After securing permission to skip the cleanup, she realized she had inadvertently turned down Lu Yibai's ride home. Later, Luo Qinge teased Lin Xingchen about declining Lu Yibai's offer only to potentially accept Zhang Haotian's ride.
Lin Xingchen, flustered, asked Luo Qinge to tell Zhang Haotian that her uncle was coming to pick her up. After school, Zhang Haotian discovered his bike tires were flat. Luo Qinge called him to relay Lin Xingchen's message about her uncle. Lu Yibai, who had left earlier on his bicycle after seeing Zhang Haotian, then found Lin Xingchen limping alone on the street, having made up the story about her uncle.
Lu Yibai offered her a ride, despite her protest that her home on the west side of town was too far. He already knew the way. As he dropped her off, he noticed her coughing and advised her to drink warm water and wear more layers as the weather was getting colder. The next morning, Lin Xingchen was still feeling unwell, sneezing and coughing in class. Lu Yibai discreetly pulled the window shut for her.
Lin Xingchen, oblivious, wondered if he was glaring at her. Luo Qinge asked if Lin Xingchen wasn’t wearing thermal pants, which Lin Xingchen's response indirectly confirmed. Due to strong winds, the outdoor exercises were replaced with eye exercises. Lu Yibai, acting as class monitor, used this opportunity to walk to the back of the classroom and hand Lin Xingchen some cold medicine, instructing her to take it three times a day.
He also helped dispose of some trash from her desk, which touched Lin Xingchen. Soon after, Zhang Haotian arrived with medicine he had bought for Lin Xingchen. He found her asking Lu Yibai about the dosage of the medicine he provided. Zhang Haotian warned her that Western medicine could harm the liver and Traditional Chinese medicine worked slower, citing a pharmacy doctor. Lu Yibai challenged his source, leading to a debate about whose medicine was better.
Lin Xingchen, frustrated by their argument, suggested using herself as an experiment, taking Chinese medicine one day and Western medicine the next to see which was more effective. Zhang Haotian called her crazy. Eventually, she decided to go to the school clinic herself. Zhang Haotian accompanied her, only for the school nurse to confirm that Lu Yibai’s medicine was indeed the correct one. Zhang Haotian, unwilling to concede, declared Lu Yibai had no sincerity.
Meanwhile, Lu Yibai’s mother, having learned about Lin Xingchen, became very interested in her. She quietly followed Lin Xingchen from school to a bookstore, observing her from a distance before leaving without approaching her. As Lin Xingchen’s birthday approached, her mother planned to return to celebrate with her. Luo Qinge, knowing Lin Xingchen wished to celebrate with Lu Yibai, called him.
She subtly inquired about his birthday to gauge his zodiac sign, using it as a pretext to reveal Lin Xingchen’s birthday to him, stating she was a Pisces born on February 22nd. Lu Yibai responded with a dismissive "How boring" and hung up, but he secretly noted down Lin Xingchen’s birthday. During a class break, Lin Xingchen seized the chance to slip a birthday invitation card into Lu Yibai’s homework notebook while he was away from his desk.
To her dismay, Lin Xue returned and immediately began distributing the graded homework, and the invitation card ended up in Chen Yimu’s notebook. When Chen Yimu excitedly announced Lin Xingchen's birthday and showed off the card, other classmates demanded why they hadn't received one. Lin Xingchen, embarrassed, quickly declared that everyone would receive an invitation. Later, Lin Xingchen joyfully discovered she had ranked twentieth in her final exams, achieving her goal from the previous semester.
She excitedly showed her report card to Lu Yibai, asking for a reward. Lu Yibai readily agreed, promising to take her shopping for a gift after school. That afternoon, he led her to a bookstore, initially suggesting textbooks as a reward. However, seeing her interest in comic books, he bought her those instead. Afterward, he took her to a cake shop, intending to buy her a birthday cake as a gift.
Lin Xingchen paused before a simple cherry cake, reminiscing about her childhood, when her mother always bought her such cakes because she couldn't see the more elaborately decorated ones. She then told Lu Yibai that her mother had already ordered a cake and gently pulled him away, saying they shouldn't be late. During the school holiday, Zhang Haotian went to his brother Liu Jian’s car repair shop to help out.
He asked his brother for an advance on his wages, explaining that he needed the money to buy a birthday gift for a classmate. His brother initially worried it was related to their father's debts, but Zhang Haotian clarified his purpose.
