Meanwhile, Bai Li was severely punished for his supervisory negligence, receiving a flogging and a three-year suspension of his salary, and was ordered to compensate the victims' families. Lord Xian, Qi Zheng, secretly reveled in Bai Li’s misfortune.
He instructed his butler to erase all traces of Chen Youyou and her father from his mansion and to distance himself from the imperial palace incident, assigning the project to Qi Zhengwen instead. Back at Bai's Mansion, Xiao Tiao passionately defended Chen Youyou to a recuperating Bai Li, recounting how Chen Youyou had diligently sewn bracers for him, pricking her fingers in the process, and traveled far and wide to gather special ingredients for his meals, emphasizing her unwavering devotion.
