At the military camp, a heated dispute erupted between the Yanzhou and Jizhou armies over the distribution of war prisoners. The Jizhou soldiers claimed that since their commander, Li Huai'an, and the Yanzhou commander, Fan Changyu, were effectively "one family," all the spoils should go to them. The bickering turned personal as insults were hurled regarding Fan Changyu’s deceased husband and Li Huai'an’s rumored marriage to the Princess Royal. Li Huai'an eventually intervened to end the chaos.

He publicly declared that he and Fan Changyu had become sworn siblings, warning that anyone who continued to slander her character would face thirty lashes. Moved by his protection, Fan Changyu formally accepted the role of his younger sister. Meanwhile, Grand Eunuch Li waited impatiently at the palace for many days without seeing either the Princess Royal or the Marquis of Wu'an.

When the Princess Royal, Qi Shu, finally appeared, he delivered an imperial decree from the Emperor and Consort Dowager An, insisting that her marriage to Xie Zheng be finalized following the victory at Chongzhou. Furious, Qi Shu accused the eunuchs of manipulating her brother and flatly rejected the proposal. She told the Grand Eunuch that he would have to convince Xie Zheng to accept the marriage first, believing the Marquis would be even less willing than she was.

The Grand Eunuch then took the decree to the military camp, forcing his way past guards. Xie Zheng was entirely unimpressed and refused to kneel for the imperial message. When the eunuch threatened him for defying the Emperor, Xie Zheng drew his sword and sliced off the man’s ear. He warned the terrified messenger that if Wei Yan could put the Emperor on the throne seventeen years ago, he was equally capable of pulling him down.

Later, Gongsun Yin expressed concern over the Emperor's obsession with power, but Xie Zheng remained indifferent, even suggesting he might depose the current ruler in favor of the Imperial Grandson, Yu Bao'er. Driven by a desire for revenge, Sui Yuanqing led a small group to attack the Yanzhou camp, but they were easily captured. At the same time, the Consort of Lord Changxin, Yin, confronted the man she had raised as her son, Sui Yuanhuai.

She revealed that she had known for seventeen years that he was an impostor who had replaced her real son after the East Palace fire. Realizing she no longer felt any maternal affection for him, the impostor—the true Imperial Grandson Qi Min—murdered her without remorse. He ordered her body to be taken away, intending to use her death for his own schemes. Fan Changyu began her own search for the fugitive Qi Min.

Recalling Yu Qianqian’s observation that he was deathly afraid of fire and never lit lamps at night, she led her team to search for houses that remained dark after dusk. They eventually discovered a residence filled with corpses, including the body of Consort Yin. Although the scene suggested the "Sui Yuanhuai" impostor was also dead, Xie Zheng remained suspicious and summoned Zhao Xun to identify the remains.

Zhao Xun confirmed that the male corpse was not Qi Min, but a body double meticulously trained by the Lan family to replicate even the specific burn scars of the original Sui Yuanhuai. Realizing Qi Min had faked his death to escape, Xie Zheng suspected a spy within his own command was tipping off the enemy. Before continuing the hunt, he visited Fan Changyu to address her insecurities regarding her father, Wei Qilin.

He reassured her that he had no intention of becoming a prince consort and that his heart belonged only to her. He promised to stay by her side as they worked to uncover the full truth behind the Jinzhou tragedy. To flush out Qi Min, Xie Zheng orchestrated a plan involving the imprisoned Sui Yuanqing.

He had Zhao Xun visit the youth and reveal the shocking truth: his "brother" was actually Qi Min, the person responsible for the downfall of the Changxin family and the murderer of his mother. Pretending to act out of personal grief for his own mother, Zhao Xun released Sui Yuanqing. Xie Zheng gambled that the youth’s vengeful hunt for Qi Min would lead the Xie Army straight to their target. Upon learning of the escape, Li Huai'an immediately ordered a formal report to be sent to the capital.
