At a secluded cottage in the eastern suburbs, an elderly couple waits for Fan Changyu's return, only for their peace to be shattered by an attack from Qi Min’s assassins. Xie Qi arrives just in time to hide the couple and eliminate the intruders, but he is horrified to find that Yu Qianqian and young Yu Bao'er have already been abducted through a window. Yu Qianqian regains consciousness in Qi Min’s camp, suffering from a severe back wound.

During the kidnapping, she had held a knife to her own throat to force the guards to spare Bao'er, resulting in her accidental injury. Enraged that his men harmed her, Qi Min orders the guard responsible to lose his arm and rounds up every physician in the area, threatening their lives if they fail to save her.

When Qianqian wakes and sees doctors lying motionless on the ground, she fears they have been executed, but Qi Min explains he only drugged them to terrify them into obedience. To aid her recovery, he brings back her former maid, Zisu, to serve her. In the capital, Fan Changyu begins her life as the Flower-Pinned General.

The vastness of her new residence unnerves her, as the silence and echoes of the grand halls feel more intimidating than her life on the battlefield. Princess Qi Shu visits her, bringing fine silks and jewelry to transform the general into a "beautiful young lady." Their time together is cut short by the news that the Ministry of Rites will soon send officials to instruct Changyu in palace etiquette.

Song Yan, now a lowly ninth-rank clerk in the Ministry of Rites, is struggling to survive in the expensive capital without family support. He is delighted when his superior, Official Liu, assigns him to teach the new general, viewing it as a prestigious opportunity. Despite hearing rumors that the general was once a crude peasant, he is shocked to find that the high-ranking officer is none other than his former fiancée, Fan Changyu.

Paralyzed by the power dynamic, he kneels before her. Changyu treats him with cold indifference, noting that their debts are settled and she has no need for his services, promptly dismissing him. As Song Yan leaves the mansion, he is mocked by the guards for his fallen pride. Outside the gates, he encounters a man he believes is merely Changyu’s matrilocal husband and attempts to assert dominance through insults.

However, Official Liu recognizes the man as the legendary Marquis Wu'an, Xie Zheng. Stricken with terror, Liu strikes Song Yan and drops to his knees in respect. The realization that Changyu’s husband is the powerful Marquis causes Song Yan to collapse in a dead faint. Despite having returned to the capital without a formal summons, Xie Zheng takes Changyu out to experience the city's nightlife.

Under a sky filled with fireworks, he expresses his gratitude that Song Yan was too blind to see her worth, allowing her to eventually become his. From a private pavilion, they watch the celebrations as Xie Zheng vows that the corrupt officials currently poisoning the court will eventually be purged to restore peace to the realm. Meanwhile, Qi Min meets secretly with Grand Tutor Li. Qi Min reveals that his men have already infiltrated the returning Yanzhou Army.

He suggests a daring plan: have the Emperor issue an official edict summoning the army back for rewards. This would allow Qi Min’s rebel forces to enter the heart of the capital under a cloak of legitimacy, as "those with the soldiers win the war." Rumors soon spread that Emperor Qi Sheng intends to make Changyu his Noble Consort to use her influence against his political rivals, Wei Yan and Grand Tutor Li.

Changyu is disgusted by the news, vowing to show the Emperor her "butcher" side if he tries to force the matter. When summoned to the palace, Qi Sheng attempts to woo her with poetry, but Changyu retaliates by graphically describing the process of slaughtering a pig, causing the Emperor to recoil in horror.

When she mentions she would have to write a divorce letter to her husband, Xie Zheng, the Emperor becomes terrified of the Marquis’s wrath and immediately begs her to pretend the proposal never happened. The political tension reaches a breaking point as Grand Tutor Tao warns Xie Zheng that his formal entry into the city will lead to a direct confrontation with his uncle, Wei Yan, on the very anniversary of his mother's death.

In the palace, Qi Shu informs Consort Dowager An that she has found a potential witness to the coup of seventeen years ago in the Cold Palace. The Dowager is visibly shaken and commands Qi Shu to drop the matter entirely to stay safe. However, the Emperor is paralyzed by the fear of the Yanzhou and Jizhou armies joining forces.

Seeking to protect his throne, he turns to Grand Tutor Li, who suggests using the testimony of a maid from the late Dowager Consort Shu’s service to finally move against Wei Yan.
