> Resúmenes de Pursuit of Jade
Xie Zheng takes Fan Changyu into a quiet grove, but the moment they stop, she dismounts in a fury. Having discovered his true identity as Marquis Wu'an, she feels deeply betrayed by the man she knew as Yan Zheng. She confronts him for lying to her from the very beginning in Lin'an and continuing the deception throughout their time in the military camp. When she notices his injuries, she dismissively suggests they are likely fake as well.
Xie Zheng tries to explain that he was set up and pursued by enemies before she rescued him in the snow, and he kept his identity secret to avoid bringing her harm. He counters her anger by asking why she drugged him to take his place on the battlefield, reminding her that war treats human life as worthless. Changyu retorts that she only did it because she was terrified he would die.
Xie Zheng tells her that if he were to fall, he wanted her and Fan Changning to find safety, perhaps opening a shop or marrying a scholar, but he firmly declares that as long as he remains alive, she belongs to only him. After he kisses her forehead, she responds with a punch and rides away alone. Shortly after, Xie Jiu arrives with urgent news: Man Di has been seriously injured.
Changyu rushes back to the camp to find the young man pale and bleeding. Man Wu explains that while they were clearing the battlefield, a young soldier—the boy who had been guarding the catapult—suddenly emerged from a pile of corpses and stabbed Man Di. Consumed by regret for showing the boy mercy earlier, Changyu is relieved when Qi Shu arrives to clarify the situation.
Qi Shu explains that Man Di’s chest armor took the brunt of the blow; while the blade pierced the metal, it did not reach his vital organs. His weakened state is due to shock and blood loss rather than a fatal wound. On the other side of the conflict, Shi Yue is in shock over the death of his brother, Shi Hu.
He refuses to believe that a legendary warrior could be killed in just a few strikes by a woman with a cleaver. Sui Yuanqing, who was rescued during the fray, realizes the woman must be Fan Changyu. Assessing the situation, Sui Yuanqing notes that they are now surrounded on three sides by the Yanzhou and Jizhou armies. Prioritizing Lord Changxin's long-term goals, he orders a retreat to Lucheng. Back at the camp, Xie Zheng visits the injured Gongsun Yin.
Seeing that the advisor’s wounds are not life-threatening, Xie Zheng decides to play a trick to test Qi Shu’s feelings. He has Xie Jiu tell the Princess Royal that Gongsun Yin is at death's door. Qi Shu is so distressed by the news that she runs across the camp, losing her shoes and arriving barefoot and disheveled. When she finds Gongsun Yin perfectly fine and chatting with Grand Tutor Tao, she is humiliated and angry.
Gongsun Yin tries to apologize and explain his surprise at her concern, but she dismisses him, claiming her earlier encouragement was merely for the sake of the troops. Xie Zheng then consults with Grand Tutor Tao about the political climate. The Grand Tutor warns him that his rapid rise to power might provoke the Emperor’s suspicion, advising him to keep a low profile while the Li family and Wei Yan fight for influence.
They discuss the suspicious ties between Sui Yuanhuai and the Li family. Gongsun Yin mentions the mystery of the East Palace fire from sixteen years ago, noting that Sui Yuanhuai is currently hunting a man named Zhao Xun who possesses the East Palace seal. Xie Zheng realizes they must find Zhao Xun before the enemy does to uncover the truth about the past.
During their private talk, Xie Zheng asks the Grand Tutor to adopt his wife as a foster daughter, hoping to give her a prestigious background that will silence any gossip about her being a butcher.
The Grand Tutor agrees, but as they describe the women in their lives—Tao speaking of a talented, strong-willed disciple he met on the road, and Xie Zheng describing his wife who values a bowl of rice over high status—they realize they are both talking about Fan Changyu. The Grand Tutor is stunned to learn that the matrilocal son-in-law Changyu mentioned is actually the formidable Marquis Wu'an.
That night, unable to sleep, Xie Zheng and Changyu encounter each other by a stream. To ease the tension and clear their minds from the horrors of the battlefield, Xie Zheng suggests they spar. As they trade blows, he gives her practical advice on close-quarter combat, telling her to rely less on brute strength and more on speed and skill. Afterward, they sit together to eat grilled fish flavored with wild fruits he gathered.
Xie Zheng speaks with deep sincerity, admitting that he never intended to marry because he expected to die in battle. However, meeting her has made him fear death for the first time. He promises that once the war is over, he will request a post in the Northwest so they can rebuild Lin'an together. He confesses that his happiest memories are the simple days they spent in the village, and his heartfelt words finally begin to bridge the distance between them.
