A Yi had previously instructed Si San and Wen Gou to set up a diversion in Mary's room, where Si San then disguised himself to swap places with Yu Chu, enabling A Yi to rescue the real Yu Chu amidst the chaos of a power outage. Mary, realizing the sedative she gave Yu Chu had been neutralized and that Yu Chu was gone, frantically sent her men to search for her.
Meanwhile, Ke Yanxin and Wen Gou rushed back to the boxing match where Da Qiao and Chong Liming were locked in a fierce battle. Chong Liming, visibly weakening, was caught in a powerful hold by Da Qiao. The anxious crowd cheered for Chong Liming, who desperately punched Da Qiao's eyes until the pain forced Da Qiao to throw him to the ground.
Chong Liming struggled to his feet as Da Qiao pressed his advantage, grabbing his arm and threatening to break it. Chong Liming defiantly declared he would "never admit defeat," then swiftly flipped over, striking Da Qiao's head. As Da Qiao faltered, Chong Liming delivered a decisive kick, knocking him unconscious. Chong Liming also collapsed, utterly exhausted. Encouraged by the roaring crowd, he managed to stand, while Da Qiao remained immobile.
Chong Liming was declared the champion, to the jubilant cheers of the audience. News of Chong Liming's victory spread rapidly across Shanghai. Mary was severely reprimanded by the minister, who forbid her from further involvement in the North-South peace talks and ordered her to focus solely on the Keliline matter, threatening to send her back home if she failed to control the "farce" caused by Chong Liming. Meanwhile, A Yi and the brilliant situation members celebrated Chong Liming's win.
Yu Chu, however, expressed her disappointment, asking if Chong Liming would have abandoned the fight for her. Chong Liming explained he couldn't betray the hopes of the people, but reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to her safety, confident that A Yi would succeed in her rescue. Yang Zhen sought to understand A Yi's reasons for leaving the brilliant situation to join the revolution.
A Yi explained that his interactions with Zhou Jue and witnessing the suffering of the displaced people in Sichuan, combined with the profound corruption of the existing court, led him to believe that revolution and a republic offered the only path to a hopeful future for the nation. He encouraged Yang Zhen to join, but Yang Zhen, having recently rejoined the brilliant situation, declined, stating he longed for stability.
Separately, De Qi held a press conference announcing Chong Liming's championship, deflecting reporters' requests for an interview by stating Chong Liming was recuperating from his injuries in the hospital. The next morning, Yu Chu prepared breakfast for Chong Liming, who playfully asked her to feed him. Yu Chu lamented not obtaining the crucial drug test report, but recalled the signature of the testing physician, Janic.
Chong Liming immediately tasked the brilliant situation members with tracking him down in the various hospitals and clinics across the concessions. Wagner, Yang Zhen, and Si San went to the Public Concession. Wen Gou and Ke Yanxin encountered a Japanese hospital with a "no Chinese" policy. Ke Yanxin shrewdly used his foreign language skills to pretend to be Japanese, enabling them to enter, but they did not find Janic there. Chong Liming and Yu Chu also searched extensively without success.
Passing by the Far East company's betting house, Chong Liming entered to claim his winnings, and William reluctantly paid him 5,000 silver taels. Chong Liming cryptically warned William that the Far East company's profitable days from Keliline were numbered. As Chong Liming and Yu Chu continued their search, they stumbled upon a clinic bearing Janic's name. They entered, posing as a married couple, with Yu Chu feigning a persistent cough.
Chong Liming presented a bottle of Keliline, asking if it was suitable for his "wife." Dr. Janic immediately grew suspicious, pressing them for their identities and purpose. Yu Chu directly confronted him about the drug test report, but Janic threatened to call the patrol room, prompting Chong Liming to lead Yu Chu away. Janic, fearing exposure, promptly called the patrol room, who in turn alerted Mary.
Mary realized Chong Liming was pursuing the Keliline report authored by Janic and instructed her subordinate to merely observe Janic's movements without acting rashly. Yu Chu, worried about Janic's safety and his potential testimony, contacted Inspector Huang, requesting police protection for Janic. Yu Chu also dispatched brilliant situation members to surveil Janic.
Restricted by the concession's rules, they maintained a discreet distance, meticulously mapping his daily routine: clinic from 8 AM to 5 PM, home by 6 PM, with no social outings or visitors. Chong Liming ordered continued surveillance, convinced Janic would eventually reveal something. One day, Janic dismissed his police escort and walked alone to a church. Wen Gou, Yang Zhen, and Ke Yanxin followed. Yang Zhen, recognizing an adjacent orphanage as his former childhood residence, led them inside to search.
While inside, he discreetly visited Ruowan and observed her taking Keliline, which quickly induced drowsiness. Afterward, Yang Zhen reunited with Wen Gou and Ke Yanxin, deducing that Janic was likely in the church's confession room. Wen Gou listened from outside as Janic poured out his heart to Father Peter Hong. Janic confessed to knowingly falsifying a report for poisonous, addictive Keliline in exchange for a large sum of money to send his son to a prestigious school.
Tormented by his moral compromise, he sought divine forgiveness and wrestled with the decision of whether to reveal the original, accurate report, which he still kept in his clinic, to those who had recently questioned him about the drug.
