As railroad workers, led by He Peng and Winter, marched with torches and shouts toward the Nanan County Office, officers blocked their path. Yu Chu and the Yan Shi Fan members were already waiting. The workers hurled stones, and Wen Gou was unfortunately struck. Angered, he fired a warning shot into the sky. Hearing the gunshot, Mary rushed out to confront Wagner and Si San, who were tasked with protecting her.

Si San warned her against rash actions, emphasizing the severe situation, explaining that the workers were shouting "Release representative, hand over Mary," a slogan created by Xiao Ke who had misled them into believing Mary was kidnapped. Mary, now understanding the danger, retreated back into the building. Chong Liming approached Fang Er, pressing her for Xiao Ke's whereabouts, but she remained silent.

He urged her to abandon her misguided loyalty, warning that Xiao Ke's reckless instigation would lead to bloodshed and harm innocent people. When Fang Er still wouldn't yield, Chong Liming revealed how, years ago in the capital, Xiao Ke had chosen to save himself over her life when they were in danger. Fang Er realized that Xiao Ke had once again abandoned her to flee, yet she still refused to speak.

Frustrated, Chong Liming took Fang Er to the county office entrance. Meanwhile, Yang Ming, who had been injured protecting Zhou Jue, was brought back. A Yi quickly instructed Big Silly and Yubing to prepare medical supplies and began tending to Yang Ming's wounds, showing great concern. He commented on Yang Ming's impressive gun fighting skills, asking him about his training.

Yang Ming, suffering from amnesia, couldn't recall his past, only that these combat skills were deeply ingrained in his mind, pushing out other memories. A Yi suggested his skills seemed to be of a northern martial arts style, leading Yang Ming to consider searching for his origins in cities like Tianjin or the capital.

As A Yi helped clean Yang Ming's old injury, he was stunned to find a scar on Yang Ming's abdomen that exactly matched a wound A Yi himself had inflicted on Yang Ming in the past. Yang Ming then vaguely recalled Yu Chu once asking him about a woman named Ruowan. This striking series of revelations made A Yi realize that "Uncle Li" was, in fact, Yang Ming, his biological father, filling him with intense hatred.

At the county office entrance, the standoff between the railroad workers and the officers grew increasingly tense, with stones still being thrown. Yu Chu, seeing Chong Liming bring Fang Er to the front, directed her anger at Fang Er. Realizing the situation was spiraling out of control, Chong Liming fired a warning shot and publicly exposed Xiao Ke's deception.

He told the workers that Xiao Ke had incited them to riot, intending to use them as cannon fodder against the approaching New Army, but the workers dismissed his claims, suspecting that Chong Liming had kidnapped Xiao Ke and was now trying to frame him. Just then, Zhou Jue stepped forward to mediate, promising to stay with the workers and await Xiao Ke's return.

Chong Liming joined him, vowing that if Xiao Ke was not found by sunrise, he and Zhou Jue would surrender their lives. This appeased the workers, providing a temporary calm. Yu Chu then urgently pressed Fang Er for Xiao Ke's location, warning her that Chong Liming and everyone would die if Xiao Ke wasn't found. Fang Er, realizing the gravity of the situation, disclosed that Xiao Ke was hiding in their ancestral home, a place only they knew.

Yu Chu quickly dispatched people to the old house, but they arrived to find it empty; Xiao Ke had already collected his money and fled. Chong Liming sent Yan Shi Fan members to search for Xiao Ke throughout the city. As dawn approached and Xiao Ke remained unfound, the workers at the county office grew restless, binding Chong Liming and Zhou Jue and demanding their execution.

However, Can Yan Xin had spotted Xiao Ke attempting to escape the city in a carriage through the East Gate. Yu Chu immediately rushed to intercept him. Xiao Ke, in a desperate attempt to flee, shot and killed the guarding officers. Can Yan Xin pursued him fiercely on horseback. The carriage veered out of control, throwing Xiao Ke, who then pulled out a dagger to fight Can Yan Xin.

Yu Chu arrived just in time, shooting Xiao Ke and saving Can Yan Xin, who had sustained a severe shoulder injury in the struggle, leaving his arm partially paralyzed. With Xiao Ke captured and severely wounded, Yu Chu brought him back in a carriage along with his hidden gold bars. Cao county order publicly accused Xiao Ke of bribing him to torture and kill several peasant representatives, including Da Chun.

To everyone's surprise, Da Chun stepped forward, alive, and denounced Xiao Ke, revealing how Xiao Ke had ordered him to assassinate Mary and Alan, only to then try to murder Da Chun for personal gain and to eliminate Zhou Jue. Fang Er, witnessing her brother's despicable acts and hearing his pleas for her to intercede with Chong Liming, slapped him repeatedly, utterly disheartened, and declared that she had no such brother.

Commander Tan Tianming then arrived in Nanan County with the New Army. Observing the chaotic scene, Tan Tianming immediately ordered the execution of Xiao Ke and all the rioting workers. He then read an imperial edict, dismissing Qian Kun from his post as Assistant Minister of Postal Department and permanently barring him from officialdom for deliberately delaying the Sichuan-Han Railway signing. Later, A Yi confronted Yu Chu, revealing his discovery that "Uncle Li" was Yang Ming.

He accused Yu Chu of knowingly concealing the truth from him. Yu Chu, harboring a deep hatred for Yang Ming, stated that he was unworthy of being a father to anyone, citing his past act of massacring their village. A Yi, however, refused to accept her decision for him, insisting on his right to know the truth and choose his own path, whether that be forgiveness or revenge.

Meanwhile, Liu Yanjun managed to bribe Tan Tianming with gold bars, securing Cao county order's reinstatement. Chong Liming then presented Xiao Ke's confiscated gold bars to Tan Tianming. While Tan Tianming initially intended to submit the money to the imperial treasury, Chong Liming passionately argued that it should be used to compensate the common people for their lost railway stock capital.

He suggested prioritizing the workers and farmers, who were the main force behind the rights protection movement, as their appeasement would help calm the unrest without further military intervention. Tan Tianming conceded to Chong Liming's plan, agreeing to hold a public Stock Return Conference the next morning at ten o'clock to distribute the money. Amidst these events, Mary prepared to leave Nanan, ordered back to Shanghai by the British Railway Company.

Chong Liming saw her off and learned that the company had abandoned its plans to acquire the Sichuan-Han Railway construction rights. Mary explained that the political landscape had fundamentally shifted: the Qing Dynasty had fallen, replaced by the Republic of China, making the future ownership and viability of the railway uncertain.
