Luo Yunping, originally a Banlangen root, was adopted by his foster parents. As his foster parents grew weaker, he discovered a Jade Serpent while gathering herbs to cure them. He used the Jade Serpent to create elixirs, which his foster parents consumed, transforming them into half-human, half-demon monsters. To prevent them from harming villagers, as they began to eat raw meat and then village livestock, Luo Yunping confined them in the Vine Immortal Cave.
Over time, they merged with the vine demons within the cave, becoming larger monsters that absorbed vast amounts of spiritual energy, leaving the village land barren. Luo Yunping, who initially wished the villagers would relocate to avoid harm, decided he could no longer let his parents hurt more people and, to repay their kindness, resolved to disappear with them. He called the villagers to the cave to explain the situation.
Before his impending demise, Luo Yunping gave his inner elixir to Tusu, hoping it would help balance the demonic and evil auras within him. Luo Yunping then died alone among the vines, and Gan Quan Village regained its vitality. Tusu reflected that Luo Yunping was a "good demon youth," and realized that Luo Yunping's troubles originated from the Jade Serpent, making him more cautious about the Jade Serpent fragments he possessed.
Lansheng, however, disagreed, stating that Xiang Ling was also a "good demon," to which Hong Yu retorted that Xiang Ling would return to human form after healing but found Lansheng's incessant chatter annoying. Lansheng, in turn, compared Hong Yu to an unmarried shrew like Ru Qin and advised Tusu not to learn from her. Meanwhile, Yin Qianshang informed Shaogong that Ji Tong (also referred to as Tong Yi) was injured.
Shaogong was furious upon learning that Lei Yan had deceived him and sought to leave with Xun Fang, telling her that Tong Yi was in Jiangdu. However, Lei Yan intervened, tempting Shaogong with the whereabouts of a Jade Serpent fragment, which caused Shaogong to be delayed at Qing Yu Altar. Tusu's group arrived in Jiangdu. Yin Qianshang relayed a message from Shaogong, explaining that Shaogong was delayed and asked them to wait in Jiangdu.
Tusu, fearing for Shaogong's safety, wanted to go to Qing Yu Altar to find him, but Hong Yu and the others persuaded him to stay and wait patiently. Hong Yu also provided comfort and counsel to Tusu, helping him resolve his inner conflicts, which finally brought a smile to Tusu's face. Xiang Ling's essence had been absorbed by the vine demon (Luo Yunping's parents), and Lansheng was constantly preoccupied with restoring her human form.
He first tried to use a Qing Yu compass pendant to help Xiang Ling absorb spiritual energy, but it proved ineffective. He then considered letting Xiang Ling absorb his own spiritual energy, but she jumped onto a beam. Yin Qianshang entered, laughing, and Lansheng immediately pestered him for help, offering wine money as payment. Yin Qianshang extorted a price but agreed to help Xiang Ling regain her human form, stating that he needed a place with strong spiritual power.
Upon seeing Hong Yu, he deliberately bumped into her, implying she would know such a place. Tusu and Qingxue later visited Peach Blossom Valley, where previously planted flowers were blooming, enjoying a romantic moment. Lansheng, Yin Qianshang, and Hong Yu then joined them. Yin Qianshang cast a spell, utilizing the spiritual energy of Peach Blossom Valley and depleting his own cultivation, to help Xiang Ling temporarily regain human form.
Xiang Ling did transform back, but her ears and tail still remained. Lansheng, attempting to avoid paying the agreed-upon reward, quickly fled with Xiang Ling, with Yin Qianshang chasing after them. Qingxue grew increasingly suspicious of Yin Qianshang's abilities and actions. She had previously followed him and observed him sadly drinking before Hua Chang's tomb, quietly departing afterward.
She confided in Hong Yu, admitting that Yin Qianshang resembled her missing brother, Feng Guangmo, and asked Hong Yu to help her test him. Hong Yu, also finding him familiar, agreed to assist. Hong Yu later saw Yin Qianshang brewing medicine and approached him, chatting and inquiring about the spell he had cast. Yin Qianshang claimed he didn't know where he learned it and then quickly left. Subsequently, Tusu offered wine to Yin Qianshang.
Yin Qianshang immediately guessed that Tusu was also there to test him on behalf of Qingxue, and a "dumbfounded" Tusu nodded. As they chatted, Tusu recounted his friendship with Feng Guangmo and the events of Wu Meng Valley, prompting Yin Qianshang to seem thoughtful. Yin Qianshang himself did not know why he could use Youdu magic, and despite Tusu and Hong Yu's attempts to elicit information from him, they yielded no definitive results. However, when Tusu mentioned the "Ghost-faced man," Yin Qianshang again seemed to ponder deeply.
