Hao Zeyu's group arrived at the hotel, exhausted from navigating the airport crowds due to his immense popularity. Fu Zi was so tired she collapsed on the hotel sofa, unwilling to go out even to eat, while Niu Meili and Fu Baba went off to enjoy a buffet. Seeing Fu Zi's state, Hao Zeyu decided to go out and buy her some food, leaving her to wait with her feet up.
While out, Hao Zeyu encountered Bai Jiaojiao at a snack shop. Dressed up and wearing a cap, she had two super-spicy stinky tofu in front of her but could only smell them. Bai Jiaojiao, originally from Hunan and a lover of spicy food, explained that as an actress, her company forbade her from eating anything spicy (as it caused acne and affected her skin), and she hadn't had chili, milk tea, or fried chicken in four or five years.
She emphasized that an actor's body was no longer their own, everything served the role, and that at 30 and approaching 40, her opportunities would narrow. Hao Zeyu found such self-restriction unnecessary, but she comforted him, saying his hard work meant he wouldn't be replaced quickly. Hao Zeyu jokingly commented on their similar attire. Fu Zi, having waited a long time for Hao Zeyu back at the hotel, rushed over to the snack shop.
She began scolding him for eating, only to quickly apologize awkwardly upon realizing Bai Jiaojiao was sitting with him. Bai Jiaojiao then left. Reflecting on Bai Jiaojiao's words, Hao Zeyu decided to go buy some meat for Fu Zi. Later, at a food-themed promotional roadshow, co-stars Bai Jiaojiao, Xin Ling, and Hao Zeyu demonstrated their cooking skills. Hao Zeyu presented dumplings, explaining their unique significance to him and that he had personally prepared the filling in the hotel.
He shared stories of his challenging experiences when he first joined the crew, which deeply saddened Fu Zi in the audience. During an unscheduled segment, Hao Zeyu surprised Bai Jiaojiao with a fried chicken cake for her birthday, wishing she could take a day off to indulge, as her biggest wish was to eat fried chicken without restraint. Bai Jiaojiao was very touched by the gesture.
Fu Zi, however, felt a complex mix of emotions and uneasiness, silently leaving the venue. She felt like she was merely a setup (a foil) and was upset that Hao Zeyu hadn't consulted her beforehand, yet she hadn't realized that Hao Zeyu had "quietly moved into her heart." She tried to convince herself that her anger stemmed from his lack of communication, though she was truly sad and hid in the restroom, claiming indifference.
After the roadshow, Bai Jiaojiao thanked Hao Zeyu backstage for the significant surprise. Fu Zi returned to wait for Hao Zeyu, feeling even worse as she watched them chat and laugh together. Hao Zeyu, unaware of her distress, pushed the leftover fried chicken towards her. Sensing Fu Zi's bad mood, Hao Zeyu later knocked on her hotel room door, guessing she hadn't slept and proposing a chat.
He asked if she was angry about him not consulting her regarding the roadshow. Fu Zi grumpily told him she was going back to sleep, but later she stated that she understood his decisions, acknowledging that she and Niu Meili lacked experience and worried about influencing his judgment. Meanwhile, Niu Meili, seeing Fu Zi's dejected state, deliberately provoked her by saying Hao Zeyu and Bai Jiaojiao looked quite compatible on stage.
She then lectured Fu Zi, agreeing with Zhao Xiaobei's assessment that they were no longer a good match for Hao Zeyu. Niu Meili suggested Hao Zeyu hadn't told them about the birthday surprise because he feared their personal feelings would interfere. She urged Fu Zi to recognize their roles as merely his manager and assistant, not "family as before," and to establish clear professional boundaries.
That night, Fu Zi was restless and upset, staying up late watching TV, eating an entire bucket of fried chicken and drinking beer. Concurrently, Gu Dapeng diligently took care of Ren Jiajia, picking her up from school, making her various patterned pastries (which she found childish but ate politely), and promising to take her to a concert. Ren Jiajia noticed Gu Dapeng's affection for Niu Meili, but he felt unworthy of her.
Ren Jiajia candidly advised him that Niu Meili didn't like him and likely never would, suggesting he give up. Later, Niu Meili abruptly appeared, startling Gu Dapeng and Ren Jiajia as they discussed home renovations. Seeing their "unified front," Niu Meili was speechless. She told Ren Jiajia to focus on her homework and promised Gu Dapeng she would repay him for Ren Jiajia's expenses. Niu Meili consistently ignored Gu Dapeng's concern for her well-being.
Despite his recent surge in popularity and numerous new opportunities, Hao Zeyu surprisingly chose to accept a dog food commercial that he had previously filmed and desperately wanted. Everyone was astonished and disagreed with his decision, recalling the immense suffering he endured during the original shoot, including an incident where Fu Zi's father inadvertently got him caught in a taxi, leading to his first visit to the police station.
Hao Zeyu explained that he viewed this as an opportunity to "make up for past regrets," recall the bitterness of his past, and provide an account of his journey. More profoundly, he revealed that the experience of filming that previous ad had made him realize that, besides Teng Dan, there was indeed someone who genuinely cared for him.
On the day of the new shoot, the director, who had previously been arrogant, was now extremely subservient, ensuring Hao Zeyu had a variety of drinks and snacks. Hao Zeyu proposed using his original idea of eating dog food while reciting the commercial lines, a suggestion the director quickly refused. Fu Zi suppressed a laugh, then asked to speak with Hao Zeyu alone. She still struggled to understand his choice.
As she listened to his reasoning and observed the director's eagerness, Fu Zi's mind filled with memories of Hao Zeyu vomiting from the dog food, his struggles with weight, the difficulties he faced on set, and Teng Dan's death. In that moment, all his past suffering seemed insignificant. She recalled her earnest past advice to Hao Zeyu, her desire to improve alongside him, and her belief that they would achieve success together.
Yet, Fu Zi realized that despite their physical closeness, the emotional distance between them seemed to grow, leaving her with a sense of sadness. Back home after the commercial shoot, Hao Zeyu insisted on personally making hotpot for everyone, refusing Fu Zi's help and telling her to sit and wait.
He wanted to serve her, as she had always served him, recalling a morning when the four of them had breakfast together, which he felt marked a turning point in his life. Niu Meili then arrived with Zhao Xiaobei. Hao Zeyu was visibly displeased, viewing it as a family gathering that Niu Meili had turned into a company event.
During dinner, Niu Meili raised a toast, congratulating Hao Zeyu on his upcoming movie premiere and wishing for its box office success. While Hao Zeyu acknowledged everyone's significant contributions, he singled out Zhao Xiaobei with implied criticism.
