Hao Zeyu continues to work on chairs late into the night, appearing lonely and unusual, constantly fiddling with them. He expresses to Fu Zi that childishness is precious and he would rather remain childish, feeling that maturity is forced. Fu Zi feels deeply for him. The next morning, Fu Papa begins cleaning Hao Zeyu's accumulated items. Niu Meili, who frequently visits and bickers with Fu Papa, is present.

She scolds Fu Papa for his lack of collective honor and apparent unconcern for Hao Zeyu's state. Fu Papa, noticing Niu Meili's frequent visits, asks if she has broken up or argued with Zhao Xiaobei, reiterating his concern about their age difference and misaligned values. Niu Meili, however, becomes indignant, asserting that everyone is equal in true love, and nearly assaults Fu Papa for his comments.

Later, as Hao Zeyu shouts to Fu Zi, who is laden with bags of carpentry materials, they are recognized by passersby. These individuals accuse Hao Zeyu of causing a scene or laughing at a memorial service, enraging Hao Zeyu. Upon returning home, Hao Zeyu, in a low mood, confronts Niu Meili. He declares his intention to terminate their contract, considering the 300,000 yuan he helped her repay as a breach penalty.

Niu Meili firmly refuses, stating she cannot abandon him even if he leaves the industry. Ren Jiajia's class teacher calls, requesting Hao Zeyu's presence at school because Ren Jiajia was involved in a fight. Considering it a sensitive time when Hao Zeyu should avoid public appearances, Niu Meili insists on going in his stead. Just then, Zhao Xiaobei arrives at the alley. Despite the others' unwelcoming gazes, Niu Meili gets into his car and leaves with him.

Zhao Xiaobei overhears Hao Zeyu's earlier statement about wanting to terminate his contract, but Niu Meili sternly warns him not to bring it up again. Fu Papa, having watched Niu Meili leave with Zhao Xiaobei, is visibly upset. While cooking later, he nearly chops through the cutting board.

Fu Zi, puzzled by her father's behavior, eventually deduces that he harbors unusual feelings for Niu Meili, though Fu Papa vehemently denies it, only admitting he fears Zhao Xiaobei might deceive Niu Meili. Fu Zi observes Hao Zeyu's increasingly abnormal behavior, noting he confines himself to his room all day and talks to himself, leading her to worry he might be suffering from depression.

Zhao Xiaobei also suspects Hao Zeyu is depressed, noting his prolonged lack of emotional release, only engaging in making chairs or sleeping, which he considers highly abnormal. At the school, Niu Meili initially apologizes to the class teacher for Ren Jiajia's fighting and poor academic performance, which is also attributed to chasing celebrities. However, upon discovering that Ren Jiajia fought specifically to defend Hao Zeyu, Niu Meili changes tack.

She advises the teacher against making hasty judgments on unfamiliar fields and people, and against commenting on online rumors, even mentioning her own past as a teacher, which leaves the class teacher speechless. Ren Jiajia waits outside the classroom. Niu Meili praises her, asserting she did nothing wrong, and offers to treat her to a meal.

Ren Jiajia, however, declines the offer and asks Niu Meili for money, explaining that her father is away on a business trip and she is alone at home. Niu Meili, feeling sympathetic, offers Ren Jiajia a place to stay, but Ren Jiajia refuses, preferring cash. Niu Meili gives her fifty yuan, but Ren Jiajia scorns the amount and leaves the school. Niu Meili follows her out, where Zhao Xiaobei is waiting, leaning against his car.

Ren Jiajia is surprised to see the handsome "xiaogege" (little brother) is Niu Meili's friend, and she becomes exceptionally enthusiastic, calling him "xiaogege" repeatedly, praising his car, and requesting a ride home. She then actively gets into Zhao Xiaobei's car. During the drive, Ren Jiajia continuously irritates Niu Meili by revealing her past, much to Zhao Xiaobei's amusement and Niu Meili's concealed annoyance, though Niu Meili endures it out of care for Ren Jiajia.

Upon arriving home, Ren Jiajia bids Zhao Xiaobei an enthusiastic farewell and then grudgingly says goodbye to "Auntie Niu," prompting Zhao Xiaobei, who had been suppressing laughter, to finally burst out. Later that night, Fu Papa is awakened by Hao Zeyu's incessant woodworking and worrying about him. Hao Zeyu sees news of Gao Tian's interview achieving his dream, which makes him feel even more uneasy.

Fu Zi overhears Hao Zeyu talking to himself and, feeling increasingly uneasy, asks him who he's speaking to and if he wants to share. Hao Zeyu ungraciously replies that he's talking to himself and doesn't want to talk to anyone else. Both Niu Meili and Fu Zi express deep concern that Hao Zeyu might be suffering from depression.

Zhao Xiaobei, who happens to know a psychological counselor, suggests finding one for Hao Zeyu and offers to arrange a free in-home session, emphasizing that Hao Zeyu should not know it's a professional. Fu Zi is initially happy but becomes cautious after Niu Meili's warning glare. She brings Doctor Wang, the psychological counselor, home, having extensively coached him to pretend to be an old friend in finance visiting from abroad.

Doctor Wang tries to cooperate, but Hao Zeyu quickly sees through the deception due to the distinct smell of disinfectant on him. Initially, Hao Zeyu angrily scolds Doctor Wang, terrifying Fu Zi who has just returned with water. However, Hao Zeyu then unexpectedly smiles, inviting Doctor Wang to ask him questions, promising to answer truthfully and politely.

Fu Zi feels he is doing well, but Doctor Wang explains that Hao Zeyu is merely hiding his deep psychological trauma and all his aggression to reassure them, appearing refined and composed despite his inner turmoil. After Doctor Wang leaves, Hao Zeyu's behavior becomes even more abnormal, deeply saddening Fu Zi. She approaches him, hoping he will cooperate with treatment, and expresses a wish for him to be reckless and fearless as he used to be.

Hao Zeyu is surprised she considers him a "scoundrel." Fu Zi clarifies that there is a difference between being reckless and self-abandonment. This leads to a fierce and acrimonious argument, resulting in Hao Zeyu angrily leaving Fu Zi's home.
