Hao Zeyu, still grappling with Teng Dan's sudden departure, recalls that she has a daughter named Ren Jiajia. He and Fu Zi immediately head to Ren Jiajia's school. They soon find Ren Jiajia secretly stuffing sanitary pads into her stomach. Hao Zeyu rushes forward when he sees her stealing, feeling embarrassed when the sanitary pads fall out.
Fu Zi, adopting an older sister's demeanor, takes Ren Jiajia to pay for the items and advises her to keep track of her menstrual cycle. Ren Jiajia, however, is defiant and rebellious. She reveals that she last saw Teng Dan half a year ago, expressing her lack of maternal affection and noting that Teng Dan treats Hao Zeyu, a stranger, more like a son than her. Hao Zeyu gives Ren Jiajia all the money he has.
Afterwards, he asks Fu Zi to lend him money and proposes visiting Niu Meili. When Fu Zi seems confused, Hao Zeyu provokes her, and Fu Zi immediately takes him to Niu Meili. Fu Zi takes Hao Zeyu to Niu Meili's office, which is unexpectedly located inside a pizza restaurant.
Niu Meili doesn't entertain the idea of finding Teng Dan, asserting that Teng Dan must have her reasons for not contacting them, and that Hao Zeyu should simply be content knowing she is safe. She then recounts Hao Zeyu's past: his mother left him when he was young, and his father, a theater actor, raised him alone.
Inspired by his father, Hao Zeyu participated in a talent show, where he met Teng Dan, who was his mentor after she promised him a box of drinks for registering. Although he achieved a good ranking in the show, his fame was short-lived, and people quickly forgot him. His career in film and television deteriorated, with his roles becoming increasingly insignificant. After Hao Zeyu leaves, Niu Meili breathes a sigh of relief.
She informs Fu Zi about a public service commercial audition scheduled for two days later, instructing Fu Zi to ensure Hao Zeyu attends. Fu Zi, however, expresses her distress over Hao Zeyu's despondent state. She suggests to Niu Meili that Hao Zeyu and Teng Dan should meet for a proper farewell, as they had worked together for ten years.
Niu Meili staunchly refuses, revealing that she promised Teng Dan to keep a secret for life and therefore cannot agree to such a meeting. Inspired by a recent package delivery, Hao Zeyu makes a barrage of calls to Fu Zi, waking her up. He instructs her to call Teng Dan, pretending to be a delivery person, telling her she has a package. He insists that no woman can resist a package.
Fu Zi, however, accidentally lets slip that Teng Dan is probably not in the mood for online shopping. Hao Zeyu remains insistent. Seizing the opportunity, Fu Zi bargains: she will make the call if he agrees to attend the commercial audition the next day. Hao Zeyu immediately becomes docile and readily agrees to the audition. Fu Zi makes the call, and Teng Dan immediately answers. Hao Zeyu and Fu Zi quickly head to the bar where Teng Dan is.
They are stopped by security at the entrance, but after Hao Zeyu gives Fu Zi a look, she pushes forward, and they easily slip into the bar. Hao Zeyu searches around and finally finds Teng Dan speaking with someone. Fu Zi, meanwhile, eats heartily nearby. Teng Dan doesn't beat around the bush, directly asking Hao Zeyu why he is there. Hao Zeyu, somewhat subservient, asks what he did wrong.
Teng Dan disdainfully states that she only took him on a whim ten years ago, and after a decade, she has concluded that he is not, and cannot become, a good actor, so she must cut her losses. Teng Dan utterly demeans Hao Zeyu. Enraged, Hao Zeyu smashes all the bottles on the table and even threatens to burn the sweater Teng Dan gave him. Teng Dan angrily scolds Hao Zeyu for making a fool of himself.
A devastated Hao Zeyu then leaves. As Hao Zeyu storms out, Fu Zi feels deeply saddened, questioning why Teng Dan had to hurt him so profoundly when he only wanted a proper farewell. Teng Dan, however, tells Fu Zi earnestly that for Hao Zeyu, this harsh way of saying goodbye is the most suitable. Though confused and speechless, Fu Zi finds Hao Zeyu's sweater amidst the mess and leaves. Fu Zi arrives at Hao Zeyu's apartment, calling out for him.
Despite her efforts, Hao Zeyu remains silent inside, and when he finally responds, he loses his temper, angrily dismissing her attempts to comfort him. Hurt, Fu Zi throws the sweater at him, reflecting that he is covered in thorns and will only push away and hurt those who love him, leaving himself alone. Fu Zi starts to feel discouraged, finding herself at a loss on how to handle Hao Zeyu, yet she also worries about Niu Meili's difficult situation.
The next morning, Niu Meili loudly wakes Fu Zi. Still groggy, Fu Zi recounts the previous day's events, tearfully pleading with Niu Meili to let her off the hook. However, Niu Meili refuses, indicating it's not her place. Fu Zi, though frustrated, eventually goes back to Hao Zeyu's door, banging and yelling for him to come out and work. Hao Zeyu, still resentful, tells her to leave and that he quits. Desperate, Fu Zi changes her approach, admitting her own lack of self-respect. She asserts that she isn't quitting and won't give up on him.
