Hao Zeyu sat in a coffee shop, writing a letter. He was an actor, ordinary yet distinct, and his story, a tale of vindication and beauty, was intertwined with those around him, equally ordinary. Three years earlier, after returning from Hengdian, Hao Zeyu found himself stranded, having been conned. With heavy luggage and distant dreams, he wandered aimlessly through the vast city. Meanwhile, Fu Zi, who worked at a convenience store, received a call from Niu Meili.

Niu Meili, known for her unreliability and frequent career changes, had now become an agent. She offered Fu Zi 1,000 yuan to run an errand, causing Fu Zi to forgo her full-attendance bonus by taking leave. Niu Meili then instructed Fu Zi to call Hao Zeyu, a newly signed actor, to find out his whereabouts. Hao Zeyu, mistaking Fu Zi for a telemarketer, unceremoniously hung up the first call.

It wasn't until the second attempt that they managed to clarify their identities. Fu Zi and Niu Meili eventually located Hao Zeyu. Niu Meili informed him that his former agent, Teng Dan, had transferred his contract to her. However, Hao Zeyu was convinced they were scammers. In a defiant gesture, he grabbed a watermelon and smashed it against the windshield of Niu Meili's expensive rented car before making a dramatic exit with his luggage.

Later, Fu Zi's request to cancel her leave was coldly denied by her manager. Hao Zeyu, relentless in his search for Teng Dan, repeatedly called Fu Zi. Initially, Fu Zi ignored him, but he easily tracked her down at the convenience store. Their heated exchange escalated, with Hao Zeyu demanding to know Teng Dan's location and Fu Zi insisting she had no idea.

In her agitated state, Fu Zi accidentally bumped into a shelf, initiating a domino effect that left the entire convenience store in disarray, with her standing awkwardly amidst the scattered goods. The manager questioned Fu Zi, asking why she wasn't crying. Hao Zeyu, indignant, stood up for her. As a result, Fu Zi was fired. The unscrupulous manager replaced her salary with snacks and demanded compensation for the damaged goods.

As Fu Zi walked away dejectedly, clutching the box of snacks, Hao Zeyu followed closely behind, still hounding her for Teng Dan's whereabouts. Exasperated, Fu Zi turned and angrily demanded to know what he wanted. Hao Zeyu focused on asking about Teng Dan's whereabouts, even treating Fu Zi as a kidnapper. Fu Zi was outraged, retorting that after being scolded so harshly and losing her job, she hardly looked like a kidnapper.

Speechless, Hao Zeyu put his theatrical costume over her for warmth and hailed a taxi for her. Before leaving, Fu Zi told him that Niu Meili wouldn't lie to him, and despite being an actor, he was an ordinary person, not important enough to be defrauded. That evening, Fu Zi's father, Old Fu, navigated the bustling alleyways to their home and began preparing dinner.

Fu Zi later crept into the alley, carrying the box of snacks, trying to avoid her father's detection. Despite her efforts, Old Fu caught her, immediately scolding her for her lion costume. He criticized her lack of accomplishments, her constant hunger, and her general ineptitude. Fu Zi then lit incense for her mother, secretly praying her father wouldn't discover she'd lost her job. However, Niu Meili arrived and blurted out the news.

Just as Old Fu was about to erupt in anger, a neighbor rushed over with an urgent request for Old Fu, a taxi driver, to take them somewhere. This interruption saved Fu Zi from her father's wrath. Niu Meili, seeing Fu Zi's unemployment, tried to persuade her to become Hao Zeyu's assistant.

She spoke of Old Fu's arduous life, all to support Fu Zi, and lauded Fu Zi's resilience, saying she was "perfect for an assistant" because she could endure hard work. Fu Zi, indignant at the suggestion of working for "that brat," vehemently refused. Niu Meili then revealed the truth: Teng Dan, her dearest friend, was terminally ill and had only days to live. To uphold her promise to Teng Dan, Niu Meili had resolved to take care of Hao Zeyu.

Hao Zeyu, alone and reflecting on the day's events, felt a profound emptiness, particularly resonating with the idea of being an orphan with no parents. Later, Old Fu returned, resuming his lecture to Fu Zi, his words like a machine gun. Despite his harsh words, he had brought her dinner, a subtle act of love that Fu Zi recognized. Lying in bed that night, Fu Zi was in an internal turmoil, like she had a split personality, debating her future.

She struggled with sleeplessness, constantly turning over. The next morning, Fu Zi, having made up her mind, went to Niu Meili's house and declared that she would take the assistant job. Niu Meili, having anticipated her decision, already had Hao Zeyu's address and a contract ready, leaving Fu Zi with a slightly crestfallen expression. Fu Zi went to Hao Zeyu's basement apartment. Upon seeing her, Hao Zeyu silently closed the door.

Undeterred, Fu Zi began loudly talking through the door, trying to engage him. Growing frustrated by his silence, she shoved a crumpled IOU for 2,320 yuan (covering her broken phone, the taxi fare, and vehicle depreciation) and his damp clothes under the door, telling him to work hard and pay her back. Hao Zeyu remained unresponsive.

However, a while later, Hao Zeyu cautiously peered out, only to find Fu Zi smiling and greeting him, her continuous stream of monologue playing from a recording on her phone. Hao Zeyu once again closed the door on Fu Zi, initiating a standoff that lasted the entire day. Later, while rummaging for food, Hao Zeyu's apartment suddenly lost power due to unpaid electricity bills.

He tried to leave to pay it, but as he opened the door, he was startled by Fu Zi, who was wrapped in a white bedsheet and had seemingly fallen asleep outside. A struggle ensued at the doorway, with neither willing to yield. Fu Zi eventually pushed him back inside and blocked the door, declaring that if she couldn't enter, he wouldn't leave either. Hao Zeyu retreated into his dark apartment, lighting a candle.

His inner voice urged him to stop bickering with a young woman, especially considering the odd visual of him sitting alone by candlelight while she waited outside in the cold. Just then, the power flickered back on. Fu Zi's triumphant voice called from outside, announcing that she had paid 10 yuan for his electricity. She demanded access to his bathroom as repayment for her generosity. Hao Zeyu reluctantly opened the door.

Fu Zi rushed past him towards the bathroom, only to discover it had no door. Protesting the lack of privacy, she promptly pushed Hao Zeyu out of his own apartment. After using the facilities, Fu Zi refused to let Hao Zeyu back in unless he agreed to talk. Frustrated and cold, Hao Zeyu finally conceded. Inside, as Fu Zi munched on bread, she advised him to accept his new situation with Niu Meili.

Hao Zeyu, however, insisted that his primary condition for cooperation was for her to help him find Teng Dan. Back at Niu Meili's house, Fu Zi enjoyed two bowls of noodles. Niu Meili reiterated that Teng Dan was gravely ill and Hao Zeyu should not be told. Later, Fu Zi returned to Hao Zeyu's place and, putting on a brave face, told him that no one knew Teng Dan's whereabouts.
