> Resumos de A Splendid Match
Chen Yanyun and his men arrived at the battlefield only to find Ye Xian and his soldiers dead, with Ye Xian pierced through the chest by a spear. Devastated, they brought his body back. Gu Jinzhao grieved deeply and discovered several letters in Ye Xian's pocket.
In his letter to her, Ye Xian revealed that his doctor had given him only three years to live due to a heart condition, making his death on the battlefield a worthy and proud choice. To prevent the Grand Chancellor's collusion with the Chunyuan Cult from throwing the court into chaos and delaying reinforcements, Chen Yanyun decided to fake his death.
When Gu Jinzhao returned with his coffin, the Grand Chancellor insisted on taking it, but Gu Jinzhao threatened her own life with a dagger to force him to back down. After bringing the coffin home, she secretly assured the grieving Chen family that Chen Yanyun was still alive, before delivering Ye Xian's final letters to his sister and mother. Ye Xian’s sister read his letter, in which he urged her not to be sad and to care for their mother.
He expressed that he would rather die fighting on the border his father once guarded than live a short, meaningless life. Moved to action, Ye Xian's mother and sister took the late emperor's Iron Immunity Charter to the palace to petition the Emperor for border reinforcements.
When the Grand Chancellor questioned how they received news before the court did, Ye Xian's mother explained that Ye Xian had written to her directly because normal channels were blocked, leading other officials to suspect the Grand Chancellor of withholding mail. The Emperor, enraged upon seeing Ye Xian's blood-stained letter and token, ordered immediate reinforcements. However, despite being confined at home for his offenses, the Grand Chancellor's faction in court made excuses to stall the deployment for five days.
Hoping to keep the Chen family safe, Gu Jinzhao prepared to face the danger alone. She burned her maid's indenture contract, treating her like a sister, and instructed her to take the Chen family to Ji Yao. Xue Qinglan arrived and promised to protect the family so the maid could leave in peace. Armed with a sword, Gu Jinzhao confronted the Grand Chancellor, offering to take poison if he dispatched the troops.
Knowing Chen Yanyun was still alive, the Grand Chancellor agreed to the deal to keep her as leverage. However, after listening to an opera, he ultimately ordered his men to send her out, claiming he had no use for a woman's life. Chen Yanyun rushed to the scene to confront the Grand Chancellor, who showed him his years of records on land equalization, intending to let Gu Jinzhao go.
During their standoff, the Grand Chancellor's wife suddenly took Gu Jinzhao hostage, demanding Chen Yanyun release her husband. The Grand Chancellor was shocked, as he had already told her to flee. His wife then confessed that she was the true mastermind behind the Chunyuan Cult. Working in perfect unison, Chen Yanyun and Gu Jinzhao turned the tables; Chen Yanyun killed the wife and rescued Gu Jinzhao. As the Grand Chancellor's residence was engulfed in flames, Chen Yanyun and Gu Jinzhao escaped together, carrying the Grand Chancellor's valuable manuscript.
