Hao Yu ultimately lowered her knife, deciding that killing Ji Zhijie would be too merciful. She told him he deserved to rot in prison instead. Unfazed, Ji Zhijie remained arrogant, claiming the police could never catch him unless he allowed it. He then kissed her and asked if they could truly start over from the beginning, a request Hao Yu appeared to accept. Before his death, Superintendent Guan Renjie had warned Hao Yu that his time was running out.

He promised to find her a new handler and instructed her to retrieve a new SIM card he had hidden near a flower pot. After recovering the card, Hao Yu received a message from the new contact while Ji Zhijie was in the shower. To verify their identity, she sent back a challenge: the person would have to crack her code and meet her at a specific time and place.

This secret communication system had been established during a past meeting between Hao Yu and Guan Renjie. Knowing Hao Yu was not a professional agent, Guan Renjie suggested using something she was passionate about—poetry—rather than Morse code. They agreed on a system where lines of verse would represent dates and locations. For example, specific poems were used to signify a meeting on October 7th at 9:00 AM at the Du Chen Si temple.

Meanwhile, Ji Zhijie had his men, including Feihu, monitoring Hao Yu’s movements. They reported that she had been visiting bookstores, doing charity work at an orphanage, and even shopping at a maternity store for baby toys and bottles. This led the men to speculate that she might be pregnant. Ji Zhijie instructed them to let her buy whatever she wanted while maintaining their surveillance.

On the day of the scheduled meeting, Hao Yu prepared to go to the temple, but Ji Zhijie unexpectedly insisted on accompanying her. To try and divert him, Hao Yu suggested going to Lotus Street for wontons instead, but Ji Zhijie insisted they stick to her original plan. Her anxiety grew as they arrived at Du Chen Si. Fortunately, Ji Zhijie stepped away to take a phone call, giving Hao Yu a brief window to meet her contact.

At the designated time, the new handler appeared and recited the agreed-upon poetry. To Hao Yu’s shock, the contact was her former lover, Zhou Ziheng. Taking advantage of Ji Zhijie’s distraction, Zhou Ziheng explained that he had suspected Hao Yu was an undercover agent ever since he saw her leaving the crime scene with Ji Zhijie on the day Guan Renjie died. He had intentionally lied to his colleagues about not seeing their license plate to protect her.

Zhou Ziheng revealed that Guan Renjie had long suspected a mole within the police force and had proactively altered phone records and evidence to ensure Hao Yu wasn't exposed. As a result of this manipulation, the triad had mistakenly identified a man named Feishu as the traitor. Zhou Ziheng assured her that he had successfully cracked the Superintendent’s files and was now the only person in the police department who knew her true identity.

When Ji Zhijie returned, Zhou Ziheng had already slipped away. Noticing her smudged eye makeup, Ji Zhijie questioned her, but Hao Yu claimed it was just the incense smoke. He then pressured her to kneel and pray to Buddha, mockingly adding that if she wanted a child, he was more effective than any deity. Later, Zhou Ziheng led a raid that caught Weihao using illegal drugs.

While the police still lacked evidence connecting Weihao to Guan Renjie’s murder, the drug charges were enough to detain him. This created a crisis for the triad, as Uncle Kun (Liang Zhaokun) was currently running for councillor and desperately wanted to avoid any scandals. As they prepared for a new nightclub's opening that evening, Ji Zhijie insisted Hao Yu accompany him. While she was getting ready, a "car accident" was orchestrated by the triad (via Jiali) to sideline Zhou Ziheng.

Ji Zhijie’s men confirmed that while the injuries were minor, Zhou Ziheng was now unable to work, allowing the triad more room to handle Weihao’s situation with the new, less troublesome replacement officers. When Hao Yu arrived at the club and went backstage to touch up her makeup, she was confronted by a furious Weihao, who had managed to return.

He blamed her for his arrest and threatened to disfigure her and have her assaulted so that Ji Zhijie would no longer want her. Hao Yu remained defiant, telling him to go ahead so everyone could see his drug-fueled violence. She made it clear that if she was going down, she was more than willing to take him with her.
