Ji Zhijie cornered Hao Yu and snatched her phone away, ruthlessly discarding the SIM card. He made it clear that he was the one who dictated the beginning and end of their relationship. From that moment on, he demanded she report her whereabouts and every person she met to him, assigning Feihu to watch her every move. Later, while Ji Zhijie was training, Feihu reported on his investigation into Hao Yu’s activities.

He confirmed she had visited the fortune-teller, Madam Zhu, to pray for a child but had received a "worst-luck" slip and left in tears. Feihu suggested that since Guan Renjie was now dead, any secrets or suspicions regarding Hao Yu should be put to rest. This report triggered Ji Zhijie's memory of their first meeting six years ago. At the time, Ji Zhijie was a rising force who warned a thug named Shanmao to stop bullying the elderly and children.

When the police surrounded the area, Ji Zhijie fled and collided with Hao Yu. As the sole eyewitness, Hao Yu lied to the police, pointing the finger at Shanmao's group instead of Ji Zhijie. When Ji Zhijie later questioned why she lied for him, Hao Yu replied that since he helped others, she was willing to help him. She believed that even if he were a "vengeful ghost," he was one of the "good ones" for taking down bad people.

When he warned her that liars were destined for hell, she told him she wasn't afraid. The situation escalated when Hao Yu’s brother, drowning in debt, sold her to Shanmao as collateral. Ji Zhijie stormed the place to rescue her, even though he wasn't officially part of the Cangfeng hierarchy yet.

After bringing her to safety, he ordered his men to buy her expensive, comfortable clothes and asked one of them to bring his own mother over to care for her, specifically rejecting help from Jiali. This act caused a stir within the organization. Jiali complained to Uncle Kun that Ji Zhijie had broken the underworld code by wiping out Shanmao's gang.

Ji Zhijie countered that he had cleared the debt and Shanmao was the one who refused to release the girl. In response, Jiali showed him evidence that Hao Yu was actually the goddaughter of the high-ranking officer, Guan Renjie, claiming Ji Zhijie was being played. Caught between two worlds, Hao Yu had pleaded with Guan Renjie in the pouring rain to accept her relationship with Ji Zhijie.

Guan Renjie was deeply disappointed, stating he hadn't raised her to end up with a common thug. To resolve the conflict, Ji Zhijie gave Hao Yu a large sum of money to give to her godfather so she would no longer "owe" him anything. Ji Zhijie then introduced her to his world, promising Uncle Kun he would win back even more business for the group to make up for the Shanmao incident.

Back in the present, Hao Yu woke up and found Ji Zhijie waiting. She assumed he had been out carousing all night, though he had actually stayed by her side. He ignored her coldness and forced her to get dressed for Guan Renjie's memorial service. When they arrived at the funeral home, Ji Zhijie told her to wait outside. At the entrance, Ji Zhijie was blocked by Zhou Ziheng, who had taken over Guan Renjie's duties.

Zhou Ziheng demanded an invitation, but Ji Zhijie simply mocked the situation. He lit a cigarette indoors in defiance of the law and, after being told he would be fined, carelessly threw a stack of cash onto the ground. Before leaving, he made sure to leave a generous donation of condolence money specifically in Hao Yu’s name. While waiting outside, Hao Yu smoked a cigarette and reflected on the true nature of her mission.

She had been investigating Uncle Kun and Cangfeng long before Guan Renjie asked for an informant. The syndicate had framed her parents for bribery and her brother for gambling debts, leading to their suicides. Driven by a need for vengeance, she had purposely become Ji Zhijie’s girlfriend to find evidence against the syndicate and their hidden backers.

She and Guan Renjie had carefully staged their fallout to protect her cover and ensure that Zhou Ziheng's promotion wouldn't be affected by her reputation. Guan Renjie had warned her about the dangers of getting close to Ji Zhijie, but she had insisted the risk was necessary to make her feel useful. As they drove away from the memorial, Ji Zhijie tried to ease the tension.

He told her he had punished those who spoke ill of her and reminded her that he acted to protect her from Uncle Kun’s suspicions. He asked if she was still angry, and Hao Yu admitted she was so furious she felt like killing him.
