Li Jie reveals that Luo Wei disappeared years ago after leaving her childhood home in the old town, leading to suspicions that the fox demon Xiaowei has assumed her identity. Wu Wangyan explains to Wu Shiguang that Xiaowei fled the Ice Curse—a punishment for her past evils—by severing her "spiritual tail," the most vital of her nine tails.

By sacrificing this tail, Xiaowei lost her sense of smell but managed to hide her demonic aura, as the curse only activates when she uses her powers. After recovering from the poisoning, Wei Qing confronts Luo Wei, who tearfully claims she only acted out of jealousy to stop his wedding. Under the influence of a hidden love talisman, Wei Qing feels a forced surge of affection and embraces her.

This scene is witnessed by a heartbroken Yu Shengwei, who flees and accidentally drops her sachet. When Yu Shengwei later tries to end the marriage, a cold Wei Qing refuses, declaring she can only leave the mansion as a corpse. Ji Ling returns the lost sachet, and Yu Shengwei hands her love token back to Wei Qing, stating they are finished. That night, Liu Weixue searches through the grass for the discarded love token.

Lu Wuyi questions his motives, wondering why he would try to reconcile the couple if he truly cares for Luo Wei. Liu Weixue admits he is a selfish man who cannot stand the thought of his beloved in another’s arms. During their conversation, Lu Wuyi notices numerous small scars on his hands, which he dismisses as old injuries from military training.

To lure out the demon, Ji Ling knocks Wei Qing unconscious and hides him in a chest at the weaving workshop, surrounding it with a mystical array. Lu Wuyi follows a mysterious note to the workshop and inadvertently triggers the trap, forcing her to reveal her true form as a nine-tailed fox. As Ji Ling and Li Jie engage her in combat, Wu Wangyan joins the battle in her own fox form to protect her sister.

The struggle is interrupted by the arrival of the powerful hunter Mo Yuntan, but the sisters are suddenly summoned back to their sanctuary by the "Decree Power" of the full moon. Mo Yuntan explains that the sisters have likely returned to the Formless Moon Palace, an ancient order of nine-tailed foxes under the goddess Nuwa that serves as the "shadow" to the Shilin Sect.

Back at the palace’s Sacred Spring, Lu Wuyi suspects she was played by Xiaowei and realizes the Yu Shengwei currently in the mansion might be an imposter. Wu Wangyan also notes the strange coincidence that the names Wei Qing, Luo Wei, Yu Shengwei, and Liu Weixue all share the same phonetic sound as "Wei." Meanwhile, the hunters are running out of time as the death curse begins to strip away their senses.

With three senses already gone, Wu Shiguang sends You Chi to infiltrate Weimiao Pavilion and steal the secret notes from the donation box. In her dreams, Lu Wuyi remembers her past as a hunter when she was forced to kill a half-demon child. She recalls how a young Ji Ling had comforted her during her grief, leading her to admit to her sister that she has developed a small degree of affection for him.

Back at the mansion, Wu Shiguang discovers through the stolen secrets that Wei Qing used a love talisman to manipulate Yu Shengwei’s emotions. However, they soon find Wei Qing dead, having tragically gouged out his own heart. In his hand, they find the love talisman, which contains a hidden second layer bearing the name of Luo Wei. Just as the grim reality sets in, Wu Wangyan and Lu Wuyi return to the mansion.
