Over the past decade within the illusion, the bond between Wu Wangyan and Wu Shiguang has deepened into a genuine romance. During a fishing trip, Wu Wangyan mentions that after ten years of fruitless searching for the Star Stone, there is no need to rush. Instead, she prepares a birthday celebration for him.
Although it is not his actual birth date, she has fully embraced her role as his wife, Qing Yi, and presents him with a handmade bracelet crafted from langxi grass and shells—a traditional Jiao clan token of eternal love. Deeply moved, Wu Shiguang promises to wear it forever. Their peace is interrupted when Little Shiguang finds a fragment of the Star Stone.
Wu Shiguang takes Wu Wangyan to the spot where he found a similar fragment as a child, confessing that his memories of the day the Shilin Sect slaughtered his clan at Blackwater River are missing. He admits his true reason for remaining in the illusion is to witness the truth of that day. Realizing the weight of his burden, Wu Wangyan promises to stay by his side to face the coming tragedy together.
In the Aodeng tribe, Ao Erlie returns and presents his daughter, Di Zhu, with a gem called the Radiant Moon for her wedding prayer ceremony. However, Lu Wuyi, inhabiting Di Zhu’s body, is suddenly possessed by a demonic entity and attacks her father. Chi Wen intervenes to drive the entity away and convinces Ao Erlie to frame the snake demon Sun for the attack to protect Di Zhu from suspicion.
Lu Wuyi continues to test Chi Wen, convinced he is actually Ji Ling. She teases him about his "tender side" and proposes a bet: if Man Man kisses Di Zhu, he must give her whatever she wants. When Chi Wen scoffs that he cannot find fresh flowers for her in a frozen wasteland, he inadvertently reveals he knows flowers are her favorite—a secret only Ji Ling would know.
Lu Wuyi later suggests using the Star Stone for the prayer ceremony to lure out the demon pursuing it, and Ao Erlie agrees to retrieve the artifact. Meanwhile, among the Green Ape tribe, Li Jie (Yuan Xizai) discovers that the demon marks on his brother’s arm are merely paint. Yuan Wuhuo admits to the deception and confesses that he once forced Li Jie to swallow Dragon Blood Marrow to cure his childhood blindness and frailty.
Yuan Wuhuo argues that in such a chaotic era, one must be ruthless to survive. He stresses that they must steal the Star Stone before it is sent to the battlefield the following night. During this exchange, Li Jie realizes his brother is the "Yuan Wuhuo" Xiaowei once mentioned, while outside the illusion, Bai Ze realizes this Yuan Wuhuo is actually the butterfly demon, Yuan Wuhuo (源无获).
As Wu Wangyan’s vision begins to fail, she is haunted by nightmares of the Blackwater River massacre. In her dreams, she sees a woman in the white robes of the Shilin Sect standing among a sea of corpses—and realizes the woman is herself. Waking in terror, she is comforted by Wu Shiguang. In this moment of shared vulnerability, the two finally consummate their relationship.
Wu Zhiqi later shares his tragic history with the brothers, explaining how he once sent Man Man to steal the Star Stone to save his own brother, leading to the destruction of the Aodeng clan. His brother was ultimately killed by humans while trying to buy a clay figurine as a birthday gift for Wu Zhiqi. This "Yuan Clay Incident" sparked a century of war.
While Wu Zhiqi is distracted by these painful memories, Yuan Wuhuo secretly swaps the precious clay figurine memento. That night, a masked Wu Zhiqi breaks into the home of Wu Shiguang and Wu Wangyan but is spotted by Little Shiguang. A skirmish ensues, during which Wu Shiguang and Wu Wangyan trade playful quips while defending their home. The fight is interrupted by the arrival of the "demon monk" Xie Lingxi.
Wu Shiguang recognizes the monk as his master, noting the Twelve Thoughts weapon in his hand. Wu Wangyan invites the powerful monk to stay and protect them, and Xie Lingxi agrees, on the condition that every meal they serve him includes mushrooms.
