After Wu Shiguang successfully gathered three sources of Dragon Deity’s Power, he finally shattered the restrictions imposed by Jiu Ying. Free at last, Wu Wangyan rushed forward to thank him, holding his hands with deep gratitude. Lu Wuyi couldn’t help but tease the two, remarking that as an old couple, such formal thanks were hardly necessary. However, the danger was not yet over.

Jiu Ying informed Ji Ling that while the others could depart, Lu Wuyi had to remain behind because she was uniquely important to the entity. Ji Ling immediately saw through the deception. He noted that Lu Wuyi’s appearance was an exact match for a mortal woman named Di Zhu, whose portrait was among the relics of the Ruined Sand.

He realized Jiu Ying had crafted Lu Wuyi as a "painted skin" to harvest the emotions and memories of the Formless Moon Sect, allowing the entity to control them all. To counter this, Ji Ling challenged Jiu Ying, suggesting that if the intent was to use Lu Wuyi to monitor him, she should be allowed to return to the Shilin Sect under his watch. Meanwhile, back at the sect, the captive demon Yuan Wuhuo attempted to manipulate Li Jie.

He taunted the commander, claiming the Dragon Deity knew of Li Jie’s confusion but chose to keep him in the dark, using him only as a tool for war and sacrifice. Yuan Wuhuo, seeking a new body, attempted to possess Li Jie during their struggle. However, through sheer willpower and a brutal fight, Li Jie managed to overcome the demon and end Yuan Wuhuo's existence.

When the group returned to the Shilin Sect, Ji Ling sought to confirm Li Jie’s true identity after the encounter with the look-alike demon. He accompanied Li Jie to the Ruined Sand to retrieve a specific weapon—the Mountain Demon Blade. Ji Ling watched anxiously as Li Jie approached the blade, knowing that only the rightful owner could ever lift it.

When Li Jie grasped the hilt firmly and reminisced about how the Dragon Deity had once sent him to Mount Nandang to pull it from the earth, Ji Ling finally relaxed. The two shared a knowing smile, their bond reaffirmed. Later, Ji Ling consulted with Bai Ze. Although Bai Ze was relieved that Li Jie was himself, he revealed a heavy cost: the Dragon Deity’s Power had fused with the spirits of the great demons.

By transferring his portion to Wu Shiguang, Bai Ze had sustained a fatal injury to his inner core. Despite his waning life, Bai Ze refused to regret his choice, telling Ji Ling not to worry. He only wished to stay and witness the final steps of their journey together, urging Ji Ling to go to Luo'an to reclaim the last bit of power from Han Ba.

While Lu Wuyi and Wu Wangyan were discussing the private conversation between Wu Shiguang and the Dragon Deity, they were interrupted by the arrival of the double-flower hunter, Si Feng. Lu Wuyi was confused by her sister's acquaintance with a notorious demon hunter, but Wu Wangyan admitted she had no memory of their past meetings. Si Feng explained that Jiu Ying had erased those memories and delivered a warning from the real Chi Wen: the Oracle Stone was a lie.

She provided an artifact to store memories and mentioned that their first meeting was linked to the demon Han Ba. Realizing that Jiu Ying had hidden a mission they once performed in Chang'an, Wu Wangyan decided they must find Han Ba to uncover the truth. Elsewhere, Ji Ling spoke openly with Wu Shiguang.

He confessed that his role as the protector of the Dragon Deity Temple was a burden he had carried for ages, and he was relieved that the true successor had finally arrived. Lu Wuyi overheard this and finally confirmed that the man she loved was indeed the Dragon Deity himself. After Wu Shiguang left them alone, Ji Ling revealed his true origin to Lu Wuyi.

He was once a blind little red fox from South Mountain, buried under rocks during a meteor explosion until the real Chi Wen saved him. Ji Ling explained that because he was often confined to the Scale Cave to maintain the facade of the immortal Dragon Deity, he longed for the freedom he had as a simple fox.

Using an ancient magic called Severed Silk found in the Wanlin Pavilion, he had crafted a puppet with his own memories and appearance. This puppet, also named Ji Ling, was sent into the mortal world to experience the wind, the sun, and the complexities of human emotion—which led to his eventual meeting with Lu Wuyi.

He also touched upon a past failure where his healing magic was insufficient to save Yuan Xizai, leaving him at the mercy of Yuan Wuhuo, though he promised to tell her the full story after their return from Luo'an. Having shared the truth that only Li Jie and the Four Great Demons once knew, Ji Ling felt a sense of peace. He showed Lu Wuyi a small fox doll, his most cherished possession from his days of imprisonment.

He claimed the doll had once comforted him with small sounds during his darkest hours. He gave the doll to her, declaring that nothing in the world was as precious to him as she was. Touched by his sincerity, the two finally reached a complete understanding of each other's hearts. That night, Lu Wuyi gave Ji Ling a headpiece and a pair of Twin Luminous Cicadas.

She kept one and gave him the other, explaining that if they were ever apart, a tap on the insect would cause its counterpart to glow, signaling that they were thinking of each other. She remained unaware of the grim reality Ji Ling had shared with Bai Ze: Jiu Ying’s final three spirit fragments were hidden within Wu Shiguang, the Oracle Stone, and Lu Wuyi herself.

Ji Ling knew that to destroy Jiu Ying once and for all, Lu Wuyi would have to die. As he held the glowing cicada and wept in silence, even the wise Bai Ze felt a profound sense of sorrow for the path ahead.
