Cheng Zheng arrived in Shanghai to find Su Yunjin and Shen Juan together, sparking his intense jealousy. He followed them to a temple. When Shen Juan left to buy water, leaving Cheng Zheng and Su Yunjin alone, Cheng Zheng impulsively threw a large sum of money into the merit box. Su Yunjin found his actions strange and unfathomable, especially after he initially claimed not to believe in deities.
Cheng Zheng clarified that he either doesn't do something or goes all out. Observing Su Yunjin’s continued search for Shen Juan, Cheng Zheng asked if Shen Juan was her boyfriend, noting her affectionate address. Su Yunjin confirmed their relationship, challenging if it was any of Cheng Zheng's concern. Cheng Zheng then questioned her choice, suggesting Shen Juan didn't seem to care much for her, and concluded that Su Yunjin simply didn't love him.
Cheng Zheng grabbed Su Yunjin's arm, demanding to know why he wasn't as good as Shen Juan. Su Yunjin struggled, reminding him they were in front of Guanyin. Cheng Zheng, however, retorted, asking if Guanyin or Su Yunjin understood his suffering over the past year. He accused her of trying to escape and deceive herself. Su Yunjin, resolute, told him he was still annoying and unreasonable.
As Shen Juan returned, Su Yunjin stood firmly by his side, making Cheng Zheng feel completely out of place. As a heavy rain began, Cheng Zheng offered Shen Juan and Su Yunjin a ride in his taxi. Su Yunjin suggested they go to the bus station, but Shen Juan pointed out that with the worsening rain, buses might stop running and taxis would be scarce. They all got into the taxi.
Su Yunjin mentioned that she and Shen Juan were returning to campus and suggested Cheng Zheng contact Zhou Ziyi. Cheng Zheng stated he was going home, adding that Hengkai would always take him in. Cheng Zheng then insisted on treating them to dinner at a nearby restaurant. Su Yunjin was reluctant, but Shen Juan, thinking it polite, agreed. At the restaurant, Cheng Zheng ordered three beers, ignoring Su Yunjin's protest that she didn't drink.
He sarcastically proposed a toast to his success in disrupting their date. When Su Yunjin reiterated her refusal, he pressed her, saying he had traveled a long way. Shen Juan offered to drink on her behalf, but Cheng Zheng insisted it was a matter between him and Su Yunjin, saying Shen Juan couldn't interfere. Feeling provoked, Su Yunjin defiantly drank the entire bottle, turning red-faced. Shen Juan urged her to stop if she couldn't handle it.
Shen Juan tried to explain Su Yunjin's stubborn nature, saying she easily falls for provocation. He added that he appreciated her "soft but iron fist" personality and believed she was considerate when shown mutual respect. Cheng Zheng challenged how Shen Juan could make such a judgment after knowing her for such a short time, which angered Su Yunjin further.
Shen Juan calmly countered that true understanding doesn't depend on time, asserting that he and Su Yunjin had understood each other from their very first meeting. Cheng Zheng, now fuming, demanded Shen Juan explain why Su Yunjin had promised to go to Beijing with him but was now in Shanghai, freely forming a relationship with Shen Juan. Su Yunjin angrily told Cheng Zheng to shut up.
Shen Juan attempted to de-escalate, calling it a misunderstanding and meaningless to dwell on, since he and Su Yunjin were now together. Cheng Zheng disagreed, calling it "perseverance" rather than fussing, and insisted that Shen Juan should know whether Su Yunjin truly held him in her heart. Shen Juan countered that who Su Yunjin loves was not for Cheng Zheng to decide.
With Su Yunjin feeling unwell from the alcohol, Shen Juan hailed a taxi to take her back to her dormitory. The next day, Shen Juan visited Su Yunjin at her dorm, bringing her hot water. Su Yunjin apologized for drinking too much and clarified there was nothing between her and Cheng Zheng. Shen Juan reassured her that she didn't need to explain, as he understood.
He then revealed the real reason for his visit: he had decided to work at Hengkai Group. Su Yunjin was surprised, acknowledging Hengkai's financial strength and its expansion into the internet sector. She asked about his plans for postgraduate study. Shen Juan explained that he had to choose a path, believing Hengkai offered him a greater future, more challenges, and a higher likelihood of success.
He admitted he knew she desired a quiet life, but for him, a calm existence harbored greater hidden crises. He preferred to be in the midst of challenges, where he could maintain control and respond effectively. He asked her to believe in his ability to forge a successful career. Su Yunjin expressed concern that a larger company might bring more complex problems.
Shen Juan assured her that he would strive to achieve whatever she desired and reaffirmed his confidence in making a career for himself. Su Yunjin told him she believed in him, and Shen Juan promised to visit her often. Meanwhile, Cheng Zheng remained in Shanghai. Earlier, Zhou Ziyi had met Mo Yuhua's lively roommate, Meng Jia, and was instantly smitten, constantly asking Mo Yuhua for details about her, which left Mo Yuhua feeling a little disheartened.
Cheng Zheng learned from Zhou Ziyi about an upcoming traditional football match at University Yaodong between graduating seniors and underclassmen, where the seniors typically won. Zhou Ziyi mentioned that Shen Juan, Cheng Zheng's love rival, used to play football but had left the school team to join the student council. Cheng Zheng, observing the underclassmen's low skill level, offered to join their team as an outside helper.
Zhou Ziyi, the team captain, agreed but jokingly insisted Cheng Zheng allow him to "punch" him first. On the sidelines, Mo Yuhua introduced Meng Jia to Su Yunjin. Mo Yuhua then confided in Su Yunjin that Cheng Zheng had specifically asked her to bring Meng Jia to the match. Su Yunjin, surprised Cheng Zheng was still in Shanghai, confronted Zhou Ziyi, scolding him for using Mo Yuhua as a go-between for his intentions towards Meng Jia.
Cheng Zheng appeared, telling Su Yunjin he might not play, only serving as a reserve. He instructed her to wait for him after the match, mentioning he wouldn't be at the university much longer and would treat her, Mo Yuhua, and their friends to dinner. The football match commenced, with Cheng Zheng playing for the underclassmen.
Shen Juan, playing for the seniors, confronted Cheng Zheng about his eligibility as an outsider, but Cheng Zheng declared he was playing for himself, not the school. Cheng Zheng then challenged Shen Juan, stating his condition for winning: to spend the weekend with Su Yunjin, while Shen Juan would disappear. Shen Juan initially refused to use Su Yunjin as a wager, but Cheng Zheng stood firm, stating Su Yunjin's opinion wasn't Shen Juan's concern.
The game was fiercely contested, with both sides evenly matched. Su Yunjin and Mo Yuhua watched from the sidelines, and Mo Yuhua advised Su Yunjin that ultimately, she had the final say on whom she liked. However, in a critical moment, Shen Juan was momentarily distracted by the unexpected appearance of Zhang Yue, causing him to lose focus and the game to Cheng Zheng.
Zhang Yue, Cheng Zheng's cousin, had come to Shanghai after his mother called her, concerned about Cheng Zheng taking a week's leave from university and secretly traveling. She had covered for him by telling his mother he was participating in a company practical project. Observing the dynamic between Cheng Zheng, Shen Juan, and Su Yunjin, Zhang Yue realized Cheng Zheng was there to pursue his crush.
At the match, Zhou Ziyi introduced Zhang Yue to Su Yunjin, and Zhang Yue then mentioned that Shen Juan was an intern at her company, Hengkai Group. Zhang Yue then jokingly complimented Cheng Zheng on his taste (referring to Su Yunjin) and took him away for dinner, saying she was hungry. Shen Juan commented to Su Yunjin that her schoolmate (Cheng Zheng) was truly remarkable.
Later, Zhou Ziyi continued his pursuit of Meng Jia, complimenting her appearance and implying she was better than Mo Yuhua in various aspects, despite Mo Yuhua being an academic ace. Su Yunjin later received a call from her mother, who wanted to discuss something with her.
