Their plan to leave the country had been derailed; it was revealed that the late Liang Zhaokun had signed numerous contracts with the Councilor in Ji Zhijie’s name.
Now, the Councilor’s faction demanded a new leader to maintain their interests, while the syndicate's elders watched Ji Zhijie with hostile intent. During their meeting, Feilong offered a sincere apology. For three years, whenever Hao Yu had been a suspect, Feilong had urged Ji Zhijie to trust her. He promised they could adopt the children she cared for or move to the UK immediately to start over. He pledged never to lock her up or take her phone again, offering to bury the past. However, Hao Yu remained cold. She confessed that from their very first meeting, she had been running a con. She had only become his girlfriend to use him to dismantle the Cangfeng syndicate and avenge her godfather, Guan Renjie.
Hao Yu told him that his "love" was merely forced control, no different from how Liang Zhaokun had raised him. She argued that true love meant respect and freedom, not treating someone as a shadow. When Ji Zhijie desperately asked if she would be happy if he turned himself in or wiped out the criminal elements of Seronport, Hao Yu replied that he would never actually do such a thing.
Driven to despair by their irreconcilable worlds, Hao Yu later attempted suicide by slitting her wrists. The doctor saved her, but the incident left Ji Zhijie in a drunken, haunted state. In his stupor, the warnings of Uncle Kun echoed in his mind, reminding him that a "human" and a "monster" could never have a happy ending. Seeing that tenderness had failed, Ji Zhijie’s demeanor turned cruel.
He took the urn containing Guan Renjie’s ashes and threatened to scatter them across Seronport if she didn't eat. He told her that since she chose death over him, he would stop indulging her. He canceled the UK trip and informed her she would stay by his side to atone for her actions, promising to only let her go if she remained perfectly obedient.
Ji Zhijie finally decided to accept Councilor Zhu’s "gift"—an emerald cabbage—and cement their alliance, signaling his intent to fully embrace a life of crime. He ordered Feilong to gather the men at the ancestral hall for a formal ceremony. During the gathering, he asserted his dominance by killing those who dared to oppose his leadership, while the Councilor’s representatives watched with satisfaction as the money was exchanged.
While Hao Yu was mourning at Guan Renjie's grave, she was approached by a man who acknowledged that Ji Zhijie had become more dangerous than Liang Zhaokun ever was. The man urged Hao Yu to cooperate with him to decrypt information found on Guan Renjie’s phone, hoping it would provide the key to bringing down the entire operation. Though she initially claimed she no longer trusted anyone, the man pleaded with her not to give up on her godfather’s mission. Later, Hao Yu made her way to the ancestral hall, finding Ji Zhijie standing amidst the smoke of the ceremony.
