On New Year's Eve, Hao Zeyu initially rejected Fu Zi's efforts to celebrate, coldly sending her and the dumplings she brought away. He was attempting to maintain his extreme diet, eating a difficult-to-swallow diet meal. However, Fu Zi was undeterred. Seeing him alone, she couldn't bear it and returned, using her persuasive tactics to knock on his door again.

She silently prepared to cook dumplings for him, emphasizing that New Year's Eve was a time to let go of grudges and that her genuine care for him, despite their professional relationship, was sincere. She also apologized for their recent argument. Hao Zeyu finally softened, compromised, and asked for Laba Garlic to accompany the dumplings. They shared the meal, reconciled, and wished each other a Happy New Year.

Meanwhile, Fu Fangshu was returning home from grocery shopping when he encountered Niu Meili, who was carrying luggage. She explained that she had canceled her ticket home as she no longer had family there. Fu Fangshu observed how for a city of dreamers like Beijing, the Spring Festival days were the emptiest, and his childhood home was no longer there.

Niu Meili confided in him, reflecting on her two decades in Beijing, where she had long mistaken the city for her true hometown. She recalled leaving her mother years ago, too young, proud, and ambitious to look back or say a proper goodbye, a regret that still haunted her. Moved by her story, Fu Fangshu invited Niu Meili to join his family for New Year's Eve dinner.

Fu Zi, distressed by Hao Zeyu's earlier words hinting at returning to his hometown and fearing he would abandon them, persuaded him to come home with her for New Year's Eve. When he refused, she forcefully pushed him into a car, determined to bring him to her family's dinner. Inside Fu Fangshu's home, the New Year's Eve dinner preparations were underway. Fu Fangshu and Niu Meili had prepared the meal.

Fu Fangshu mysteriously presented Niu Meili with a bottle of liquor, explaining it was an identical replacement for a special bottle she had sold to Gu Dapeng, found to commemorate her departed 30th birthday. Soon after, Fu Zi dragged Hao Zeyu into the house. Niu Meili welcomed Hao Zeyu and then discreetly pulled him aside, handing him a red packet, expressing her hope that he would find a role he truly loved next year.

Hao Zeyu, holding the red packet, felt a mix of emotions. Meanwhile, Fu Zi was distressed by Hao Zeyu's earlier words, fearing he was truly planning to abandon them and return to his hometown. During the dinner, Fu Fangshu gave Hao Zeyu a dumpling, and he bit into a coin. Seeing this, Fu Zi and Niu Meili hailed it as a good omen, encouraging him to continue working hard next year and lead everyone to prosperity.

Hao Zeyu took this opportunity to reflect on his decade in Beijing, admitting that he had taken many detours but was profoundly grateful to them for helping him get roles and lose weight. He expressed deep regret for only causing them trouble. Fu Zi quickly smoothed things over for Hao Zeyu, and everyone had a harmonious New Year's Eve dinner. Later, as Fu Zi and Niu Meili enjoyed fireworks with the neighborhood children, Fu Fangshu subtly comforted Hao Zeyu.

After speaking, he called Niu Meili inside for a drink. Fu Zi, still concerned, then pulled Hao Zeyu aside, asking what her father had said and urging him not to leave. Hao Zeyu, with a complex expression, claimed he didn't truly plan to leave, saying he was just complaining, hoping to ensure Fu Zi had a good New Year. Skeptical, Fu Zi insisted he swear an oath to the fireworks.

Hao Zeyu mused that everyone is like a fireworks display, eventually turning into ashes, but the difference is whether one has "blossomed" for the fireworks, before making a promise to stay. The morning after New Year's, Fu Zi came to Hao Zeyu’s apartment to take him for their usual run, still pressing him to continue his weight loss regimen. Hao Zeyu absolutely refused to let her in, as his packed luggage was inside.

During their run and dance routine, he concealed his true intentions, having already prepared to leave the next day. He packed his belongings and wrote a letter to Fu Zi, wishing her well and explaining that he feared dragging down those who had helped him. He enclosed the letter with a bank card in an envelope.

He reflected on his ten arduous years in Beijing, living from a windowless room to a basement, acknowledging his progress but also the vast distance to true success. He felt that he was not afraid of suffering alone, but only feared dragging down those who helped him, believing it was better to leave quietly. Fu Zi soon received the package containing the letter and the bank card. Realizing his departure, she frantically called him.

Hao Zeyu only answered after many calls. Fu Zi scolded him fiercely. Hao Zeyu falsely claimed to be at the airport on the phone, but Fu Zi overheard mall announcements in the background, exposing his lie. She rushed to the mall, finding him, and in a dramatic attempt to stop him, she moved a stool and stood on a high floor, looking like a heartbroken woman abandoned, which immediately attracted a large crowd.

Hao Zeyu, terrified at the sight, rushed to her and angrily broke her phone. In retaliation, Fu Zi tore his train ticket. He then revealed a new phone he had bought for her from his bag, handing it to her as he prepared to leave the mall. Their public spectacle led to them being invited by security guards to the police station for a talk and were criticized and educated by the police.

At the station, Hao Zeyu pleaded with Fu Zi to ask her father to pick him up too when he arrived, but she, holding her neck high, consistently refused. Hao Zeyu then had to call Niu Meili. When Fu Fangshu and Niu Meili arrived and met outside the police station, they immediately began arguing, one protecting Hao Zeyu and the other Fu Zi.

However, they were stunned when the police officer informed them that Fu Zi and Hao Zeyu were "in love," and the incident was a dramatic attempt by Fu Zi to prevent Hao Zeyu from leaving, leading to both of them being utterly bewildered and dumbfounded.
