Huo Xiangjiu, currently inhabiting Feng Mochen’s body, felt a mix of excitement and anxiety. Having detected a scent on Princess Ningshuang that perfectly matched the missing pages of the Ganquan Register, she was certain the Princess was involved. However, approaching a royal of such high standing was no easy task.
When the Princess questioned his unexpected presence at Ningshuang Palace, even mockingly asking if he was there to seduce a certain Madam Chen, Xiangjiu could only offer a clumsy excuse about passing by before making a quick exit, realizing she needed a better plan to get the truth. Meanwhile, Feng Mochen was suffering a far more humiliating fate within Xiangjiu’s weak, mortal frame.
At the Laundry Bureau, Supervisor Zhao decided to punish the girl she knew by the nickname "Xiao Yao Ji" (One Bam) for her recent perceived insolence. Zhao ordered her lackeys, Qing Yi Se and Da San Yuan, to force-feed "Xiangjiu" buckets of fiery dried chili peppers. Despite Feng Mochen’s internal fury, he lacked the physical strength to resist as he was pinned down.
Even as Le Ning, a girl from Sichuan, tried to intervene by offering to eat the peppers herself, Supervisor Zhao heartlessly dismissed her. Forced to swallow the peppers, Feng Mochen’s eyes stung with tears of physical agony. Relief only came when Xiangjiu, in the Lord's body, arrived at the Laundry Bureau. Enraged to see her own body being mistreated, Xiangjiu beat Supervisor Zhao mercilessly while the other maids, terrified by the Lord’s authority, could only plead for mercy.
In the Eastern Palace, the atmosphere was lethal. Prince Fuying was livid over the failed assassination of Feng Mochen. He ruthlessly executed several people to emphasize the cost of failure to Gongsun Wugui. Trembling before the Prince, Gongsun begged for his life, citing his years of service. Prince Fuying, unmoved by "hard work" that produced no results, reminded Gongsun of his commoner origins to keep him humble.
To ensure absolute control, the Prince ordered Gongsun’s only son to be brought into the palace as a guard, effectively taking the young man hostage and ending Gongsun's hopes of a royal marriage for him. Forced into submission, Gongsun pledged absolute loyalty. The Prince then turned his attention to the new maid by the Lord's side, deciding to personally bribe her to act as his spy.
Even the Prince's wife was harshly dismissed when she tried to interrupt their cold-blooded planning. As night fell, Xiangjiu was abruptly awakened by a terrifying sight. A spirit named Xiao Ru appeared before her, though she initially mistook the figure for a ghost. No matter how much Xiangjiu ran, the spirit followed. Xiao Ru claimed she had a lingering obsession and sought Lord Feng’s help to resolve it, though she could no longer remember the details of her own past.
Xiangjiu realized that Xiao Ru had been a maid like her and had helped her in the past. Moved by this, Xiangjiu’s sympathetic nature took over. Despite Feng Mochen’s cold warning that meddling would only delay the search for her father, Xiangjiu insisted that humans are strong because they understand love and mutual aid. She promised the spirit her full support, leaving Feng Mochen to sigh at her impulsive kindness.
The two shared a quiet moment in Fucang Palace, where Xiangjiu complained about the lack of a proper bed. Feng Mochen explained that he slept on thousand-year-old ice to suppress the innate fire from his cultivation, a concept entirely foreign to Xiangjiu. As they discussed the nature of love, Xiangjiu mused that finding a love that lasts a single lifetime would be a miracle. Feng Mochen questioned if love for every lifetime wouldn't be better.
Though they remained trapped in the wrong bodies, a strange bond began to form. Their predicament finally saw a turning point when Bai Yu arrived, having mastered the soul-swapping technique. His initial entry was chaotic; seeing the Lord and Xiangjiu together, he mistakenly slapped Feng Mochen, only to realize his error when he heard Xiangjiu’s voice coming from the Lord's mouth. The ritual itself was a comedy of errors.
Bai Yu’s first attempts accidentally swapped Xiangjiu into his own body and himself into Feng Mochen’s. After several dizzying rounds of swapping spirits between the three of them, Bai Yu finally managed to return Xiangjiu and Feng Mochen to their original forms. Overjoyed to be back in her own skin, Xiangjiu immediately hurried back to the Laundry Bureau. However, Xiangjiu’s freedom was short-lived. No sooner had she returned than she was intercepted by Prince Fuying’s men.
Citing the Prince’s direct orders, the guards gave her no choice but to follow them to the Eastern Palace. Xiangjiu realized that her return to her own body had brought a new set of dangers, as she was now the primary target of the Prince’s dark schemes.
