Following a mystical encounter at Fucang Palace, the supreme cultivation master Feng Mochen and the palace maid Huo Xiangjiu find themselves trapped in each other's bodies. While Huo Xiangjiu is initially startled by her new muscular, male physique, Feng Mochen maintains a cold composure despite being relegated to the form of a lowly servant. They quickly realize their predicament is complicated: Huo now commands Feng’s vast spiritual powers, while Feng is left with her mortal frailty.
Feng sternly warns her that reckless use of his techniques without mental discipline could be fatal. Huo Xiangjiu uses her newfound status to investigate the disappearance of her father, Huo Zhongren, who vanished two years ago after a meeting with the Emperor. She discovers that two critical pages from the Ganquan Register—the record of imperial audiences—have been torn out. Suspecting a cover-up, she notices a unique fragrance lingering on the book’s spine.
Feng Mochen explains that such scents are exclusive to high-ranking nobles. To identify the culprit, Huo insists on attending the royal family banquet, despite Feng’s concerns that her lack of decorum will expose them. Meanwhile, a lethal conspiracy unfolds within the Eastern Palace. Resenting Feng Mochen for repeatedly saving the ailing Emperor’s life, the Crown Prince (Shi Zi) plots to eliminate him.
Aided by Lord Gongsun Wugui, he prepares a devastating cocktail of poisons, including Death Powder and Heart-Severing Grass, certain that no one can survive the mixture. Elsewhere, Attendant Bai Yu prepares for the banquet. After being caught stealing fruit by the arrogant Princess Ningshuang, he narrowly escapes punishment by using extravagant flattery, comparing her archery skills to those of the legendary Hou Yi. At the banquet, Huo Xiangjiu’s attempt to mimic Feng Mochen’s dignity fails spectacularly.
Her exaggerated bows to the Emperor leave the real Feng Mochen deeply embarrassed. To facilitate her search for the mystery scent, she inventively claims to be practicing "Scent Divination," a technique to predict fate through smell. As she toasts the guests, she carefully sniffs the Crown Prince, the Princess Consort Song Lian, and Gongsun Wugui’s son, Gongsun Hao.
She is startled to find that Song Lian and Gongsun Hao carry the exact same distinct aroma, leading her to suspect a clandestine affair. The night takes a dangerous turn when Huo Xiangjiu consumes the poisoned wine intended for the Master. Due to their spiritual connection, both she and Feng Mochen feel the agonizing effects of the toxins simultaneously. As Huo (in Feng's body) requests to leave early, the Emperor instructs Bai Yu to escort her.
Bai Yu, who has been betrothed to Huo Xiangjiu since childhood, is consumed by jealousy, believing Lord Feng has bewitched his "Little Xiangjiu." Unaware that his fiancée’s soul is the one suffering within the body before him, Bai Yu invokes the ancestral power of the Bronze Bai Clan, calling upon heavenly thunder to settle a thousand-year feud and destroy Feng Mochen once and for all.
