Believing Lord Feng Mochen has been eliminated by poisoned wine, the Crown Prince begins celebrating his impending succession. Taking advantage of the festive mood, Gongsun Wugui requests a royal marriage between his son, Gongsun Hao, and the haughty Princess Ningshuang. The Prince warns that his sister is spoiled and difficult, but Wugui is confident he can make her submissive. In the shadows of the palace, Gongsun Hao confronts the Crown Princess, Song Lian.
Their conversation reveals a past romance, but Song Lian coldly maintains that their bond died the moment she entered the royal family, telling him they must both move on. The soul exchange between Feng Mochen and Huo Xiangjiu leads to chaotic and comedic results. Because their spirits and physical sensations are intertwined, Feng Mochen suffers through everything Xiangjiu experiences.
When Xiangjiu (in Feng’s body) wakes up starving and devours a massive feast, Feng Mochen (in Xiangjiu’s body) is forced to mirror her gluttony, eventually plunging his head into a rice bucket to the shock of his attendants. While Feng Mochen suffers as a servant, Xiangjiu is delighted by his powerful physique, admiring her new chest muscles in the mirror and obsessively grooming his nine fox tails with wax and green paint to keep them looking divine.
In the laundry bureau, Feng Mochen (in Xiangjiu’s body) tries to assert his usual dominance, but Lady Zhao assumes the girl has lost her mind and prepares to whip her for her arrogance. Bai Yu, a palace official who gained fame for his legendary toilet-scrubbing skills, steps in to protect his fiancée. Feng Mochen eventually pulls Bai Yu aside and proves his identity by reciting the long, failed history of the Bai clan’s attempts to assassinate him over thirty generations.
A horrified Bai Yu realizes that his attempts to vanquish a "demon" the night before were actually directed at his own fiancée. As they search for a way to reverse the spell, Xiangjiu focuses on her primary goal: finding her father. He was a dedicated registrar who disappeared two years ago while attempting to report the crimes of a corrupt local magistrate and Young Master Gao.
Feng Mochen, moved by her story, agrees to help and seals the promise with a pinky swear. To keep her safe and well-fed, he arranges for her to become his official food taster, ensuring she can eat to her heart's content while staying under his protection. Bai Yu attempts the Spirit-Detachment Technique to return them to their original bodies, but his skills are clumsy and the spell fails.
Using her sharp sense of smell, Xiangjiu (as Feng) follows a fragrance from the missing pages of the Ganquan Register to Ningshuang Palace. However, her attempt to sniff out the truth leads to a misunderstanding; she mistakes Lady Li for the Princess and tries to use her masculine charms and "muscles" to get her way, leading Princess Ningshuang to believe that Lord Feng is shamelessly flirting with the palace ladies.
