As a sudden rain begins to fall, Feng Mochen finds Xiangjiu walking alone, lost in somber reflection. He quickly moves to shield her with an umbrella, claiming he is only doing so because he fears she might catch a cold. Still dwelling on the mysterious memories triggered by their recent proximity, Xiangjiu asks if he is truly intent on ascending to heaven.

She wonders aloud if there is nothing in the mortal world worth his attachment—not even the simple joy of human delicacies. Looking into her eyes and seeing his own reflection in her gaze, Feng Mochen finds his resolve weakening. He agrees that the Heavenly Court likely lacks good food and decides that, for the sake of these earthly comforts, he is no longer in a hurry to leave. Meanwhile, Mao Jin continues to pursue Le Ning with clumsy devotion.

Hearing that Le Ning’s superior has caught a cold, he rushes to the pharmacy to prepare medicine to ensure Le Ning stays healthy, finding immense joy in simply watching her enjoy the food he brings. During one visit, Le Ning shows him a pair of gloves she has just finished knitting for Xiangjiu. Mistakenly believing they are a gift for him, Mao Jin is ecstatic.

Even though they are far too small for his hands, he remains undeterred, insisting he can stretch them out to fit. Touched by his earnestness, Le Ning decides to let him keep them. When Mao Jin returns, he is shocked to hear that Feng Mochen no longer plans to ascend.

Having witnessed the thousands of years of cultivation his master has endured, Mao Jin is pained by the idea of him giving up when he is so close to standing alongside the Lord Howling Celestial Dog at the Southern Heavenly Gate. He warns Feng Mochen that the time between his heavenly tribulations is shrinking—moving from months to mere days—and that the pain will soon become a daily burden. However, Feng Mochen remains disinterested in celestial rank.

Despite the looming agony, he is determined to stay for Xiangjiu’s sake, prompting Mao Jin to reaffirm his own loyalty as a faithful companion. In the Eastern Palace, the Crown Prince and Crown Princess remain trapped in a bitter, cold marriage. While the Princess desires a divorce, the City Lord refuses to allow the scandal to tarnish the royal family’s reputation. Back in Princess Ningshuang’s quarters, Xiangjiu and her fellow maids prepare bathwater.

To pass the time, one maid shares a secret treasure: a collection of illustrations featuring handsome men left behind by a former Emperor. Xiangjiu finds herself entranced by the drawings before Madam Chen arrives to scold them. Though she sends the girls away with a lecture on discipline, Madam Chen cannot resist sneakily admiring the pictures herself once she is alone.

The lightheartedness is short-lived, however, as an eerie wind suddenly blows through the chamber, turning the bathwater a terrifying, blood-red color and leaving the maids in a panic. The following day, while serving fruit, Xiangjiu mutters to herself about how she wishes Feng Mochen were there to investigate. To her delight, he appears, having transformed himself into a butterfly.

Feng Mochen reveals that he had been guarding the room from the outside the previous night and saw nothing enter or leave, leading them to conclude that the source of the haunting must be hidden inside the Princess's chambers. When Xiangjiu carries the tray into the room, Madam Chen spots the butterfly and strikes it down. Horrified, Xiangjiu bursts into tears, covering her reaction by telling a tragic story of lovers who turned into butterflies.

Princess Ningshuang remains suspicious, recalling having seen Xiangjiu with Feng Mochen at a previous banquet. Sensing the tension, Xiangjiu offers to help the Princess reconcile with her mother, the Old Madam, who has rejected Ningshuang since birth. In the Imperial Kitchen, the guard Bai Yu catches Mao Jin and Le Ning illicitly tasting food. His attitude shifts from anger to excessive politeness the moment he learns Le Ning is Xiangjiu’s close friend.

Hoping to get closer to Xiangjiu, he prepares a box of delicate snacks for her. However, his journey is interrupted by Princess Ningshuang, who mocks his claim that the food is for the Emperor and insists on sharing the treats among her maids. Fortunately, this allowes Xiangjiu to enjoy the snacks Bai Yu made for her.

Later, while Ningshuang is waiting for an audience with the Old Madam, she is confronted by Gongsun Hao, the Captain of the Eastern Palace Guard. He attempts to arrest Xiangjiu, claiming she is a wanted criminal who offended the Crown Prince. Ningshuang refuses to back down, fiercely protecting her maid and threatening to slaughter everyone in the Eastern Palace if they dare lay a hand on her people. Despite this, Ningshuang’s distrust of Xiangjiu remains.

After the guards leave, she confronts Xiangjiu about her ties to Feng Mochen and her constant lies. When the Princess attacks, Xiangjiu instinctively uses martial arts to defend herself, proving she has been hiding her true nature. Tired of the deception, Ningshuang banishes Xiangjiu from her palace, warning her that if she ever returns, not even Feng Mochen will be able to protect her.
