At the Sanjiangkou Municipal Public Security Bureau, forensics confirmed that the blood found at the crime scene was human, and Chief Zhang concluded that the victim was likely Liu Bei. Detective Zhang Yi'ang noted that surveillance footage showed Liu Bei entering the building with a suitcase but never leaving. The deep tracks left by the suitcase wheels as it was later rolled away by someone else suggested it contained a body.

Zhang Yi'ang also identified a suspicious red Xiali taxi with a fake plate that had been involved in recent accidents. While Li Qian doubted that these taxi drivers were the same professionals who robbed Zhou Rong’s villa, the police moved forward with identifying the suspects as Mao Hongwei and Xia Tinggang, who operated a local scrap yard.

At the scrap yard, Mao Hongwei and Xia Tinggang were in a state of panic after discovering the body of Liu Bei in the suitcase they had stolen. Xia speculated that the victim’s throat had been slit after being struck, and Mao lamented that they had brought back a corpse instead of the money they intended to snatch.

Fearing that their history of running a fake taxi and robbery would lead to a long prison sentence regardless of the murder, they decided to drive far away to bury the body. Shortly after they fled, Du Cong arrived at the yard covered in bandages, seeking money to repair the car he had wrecked because of them. Instead, he found the place swarmed by police.

Neighbors eagerly provided complaints, describing Mao and Xia as "street loiterers" who stole everything from women's laundry to children's popsicle money. Meanwhile, Fang Chao and Liu Zhi were attempting to leave Sanjiangkou with a suitcase containing one million US dollars. To evade detection, Fang Chao dressed as an elderly woman while Liu Zhi disguised himself as a blind man. They stopped at a gas station, but the attendant refused to accept their US dollars as payment.

While they were arguing with the staff, Mao Hongwei and Xia Tinggang arrived, laboriously pushing their red Xiali because it had run out of gas. Seeing the keys left in Fang Chao’s luxury Land Rover, Mao and Xia seized the opportunity, jumped into the vehicle, and sped away. Fang Chao and Liu Zhi were forced to give chase in the abandoned red taxi left behind by the thieves.

They soon noticed a suitcase in the back that looked exactly like theirs. However, when Liu Zhi opened it, he was horrified to find Liu Bei's corpse instead of their cash. Spotting a police checkpoint on the road ahead, they decided to abandon the taxi and flee on foot to save their own lives. At the same time, Mao Hongwei and Xia Tinggang pulled over to inspect their new luxury ride.

They were initially terrified to find a suitcase in the back, fearing the body they had just lost had somehow returned to haunt them. To their shock and delight, they opened it to find it filled with stacks of US dollars. Realizing that the stolen Land Rover was too conspicuous, they abandoned the vehicle and decided to take a bus back, carrying only the suitcase full of money.

In another part of the city, Fang Yong received word that he was being reassigned to a study program at the Party School, meaning he had to step away from his current dealings. He called Zhou Rong to inform him that he no longer wanted to pursue the "bianzhong" (ancient bells). Simultaneously, Zhu Yifei decided to play a high-stakes game; he instructed his men to tell the buyers the deal was off, secretly planning to double his asking price.

Zhou Rong was bewildered by the sudden cancellation of the deals and the fact that his men, led by Li Penggai, could not find the two mysterious suspects. Sensing a powerful force working against him, he decided to accelerate his plan to flee the country. He told his subordinate Jianren they would head to an island called Gondwana, a place where he claimed he could find peace without his medication.

When Jianren mentioned he had been practicing his English for the trip, Zhou Rong told him that people in Gondwana did not even speak foreign languages. Back at the station, the police recovered the abandoned Land Rover and the red Xiali. Captain Wang reported finding a makeup kit and several forged IDs inside the Land Rover, along with four sets of fingerprints.

Chief Zhang pointed out that Li Penggai had actually worked for Mao and Xia years ago, suggesting the duo might have more sophisticated "anti-reconnaissance" skills than simple loiterers. Despite the clues, Li Qian remained frustrated, suspecting that Chief Zhang and Captain Wang were trying to move her to a desk job for her own safety. Captain Wang denied the claim and ordered her to continue reviewing surveillance footage for any signs of the two men carrying the specific suitcase.
