Xu Hongqi sternly interrogated Fei Ni, demanding the truth about Fang Muyang’s condition. Terrified, Fei Ni admitted that while Fang had begun to recall some fragments, he had not fully recovered. When Feng Lin accused them of conspiring to deceive the organization, Fei Ni protected Fang, claiming she was the one who had orchestrated the plan. Deeply disappointed, Xu Hongqi revoked Fei Ni’s college recommendation and ordered her to write a formal self-reflection.

Later, while Fei Ni was mourning her lost academic dreams by the sea, Feng Lin approached her and admitted she had long been resentful of Fei Ni’s perceived intellectual superiority. Feng Lin revealed her true motive: exposing the secret was a way to secure a college spot for her own boyfriend.

She also informed Fei Ni that Xu Hongqi intended to implement a policy of strict equality, ensuring that Fei Ni would never again be recommended for university by the Jiangcheng No. 1 Textile Factory, regardless of her future achievements. Devastated, Fei Ni sought comfort from her teacher, who encouraged her by saying that while one path was blocked, no one could seal off her true path in life.

Fei Ni returned to work and was surprised to find her close friend, Lin Mei, on a date with a colleague named Chen Yunguo. Lin Mei explained that she had reached her breaking point with Fei Ni’s brother, Fei Ting, who was still in the countryside and had refused to file for his return.

However, Lin Mei eventually confessed the heartbreaking truth: Fei Ting was avoiding his return because he knew that if he came back, Fei Ni would have nowhere to live. This revelation deeply moved Fei Ni, as she recalled the many sacrifices her brother had made for her—from giving her his new pencil case as a child to volunteering for the Great Northern Wilderness so she could take their mother’s job at the factory.

Determined to save her brother’s happiness, Fei Ni asked Lin Mei for three months to resolve the housing situation, promising that Fei Ting would return to marry her. To find a new home, Fei Ni told her parents she was ready for a blind date, provided the man was under thirty, decent-looking, and either owned a house or was eligible for a housing allocation.

To her surprise, the first candidate was Ye Feng, Xu Hongqi’s handsome son and the star forward of the factory’s basketball team. Ye Feng had been infatuated with Fei Ni since seeing her as a cheerleader and had even previously inquired about her with matchmakers. On their first date, Ye Feng fell asleep during a Romanian movie due to his exhausting training schedule.

Despite the awkward start, he walked Fei Ni home and met her mother, who warmly invited him to dinner. Inside, they found Fang Muyang, who had obtained Fei Ni’s address from a nurse because she hadn't visited him in days. The dinner was incredibly tense as Ye Feng recognized Fang as a rival. Meanwhile, neighbors gossiped that Fei Ni was shamelessly trying to "climb the social ladder" by dating the director’s son.

After dinner, Fei Ni walked Fang Muyang out, noticing his disheveled clothes and missing buttons. She then spoke with Ye Feng and honestly shared her plan: once her brother returned, she intended to give him her stable factory job. Ye Feng was initially anxious, fearing his mother would never accept a daughter-in-law without an "iron rice bowl" job.

When he discussed the match with Xu Hongqi, she was initially opposed but eventually agreed on one condition: Fei Ni must formally abandon her dream of attending college. Confident that his own charm outweighed any academic ambition, Ye Feng accepted the condition on Fei Ni’s behalf, certain he could convince her to choose him over university.
