Fang Mujing traveled to Jiangcheng to attend her brother’s wedding. Although her husband, Qu Hua, had initially seemed reluctant to go, he secretly boarded the same train and booked a soft sleeper for her, providing attentive care throughout the journey. Upon arrival, Qu Hua suggested they share a room at the guesthouse to save money and "national resources." Mujing, however, insisted on having her own room for convenience.

The two playfully set deadlines for how long they would leave their doors open for one another, but Qu Hua eventually checked out of his own room and convinced Mujing to let him stay with her, claiming he didn’t want to be wasteful. On the morning of the wedding, Fang Muyang enlisted the help of his brother-in-law, Fei Ting, in the textile factory kitchen.

He encouraged a reluctant Fei Ni to wear a dress to work instead of her usual uniform, wanting her to look her best. At lunchtime, Fang Muyang surprised her with a formal ceremony in the factory cafeteria in front of all her coworkers. Ms. Xu (Xu Hongqi) hosted the event, praising Fang Muyang as a hero and Fei Ni as an exemplary worker.

The couple's family members, including Fei Ni’s parents and Fang Mujing and Qu Hua, joined them on stage. During his speech, Qu Hua introduced himself as a doctor from a military family, noting that his grandfather was a Red Army veteran and his father a Korean War hero. Fang Muyang expressed his deep joy in the marriage, stating he wanted to create a beautiful memory for Fei Ni.

The celebration featured a banquet where every table was served a large braised fish. While the workers enjoyed the meal and joked about the couple’s closeness—even gossiping about a bunk bed they had seen in their room—Fei Ni was privately distressed by the cost. After the wedding, she discovered that Fang Muyang had spent sixty yuan for the fish using the secret savings she had intended for her university tuition. Heartbroken, she confronted him.

Fang Muyang sincerely explained that he only wanted a wedding that would make her family proud and promised to repay her using his training subsidies and future wages. He also confessed that he had been feigning the lingering effects of his head injury just so she would continue to take care of him. Meanwhile, Lin Mei faced pressure from her parents, who arranged a blind date with Wang Tengda, a young man from a well-off family in the transport fleet.

To sabotage the arrangement, Lin Mei intentionally revealed during dinner that she already had a boyfriend. She criticized how those with connections always secured the best positions while her capable boyfriend remained unemployed. After driving the suitor away, she had a heated argument with her mother, who insisted that Fei Ting’s lack of a stable job was the only hurdle.

Distressed, Lin Mei later told Fei Ting that they could not marry unless he secured proper employment, as she was tired of fighting an uphill battle. At the guesthouse, the romantic atmosphere of the wedding prompted Fang Mujing to reflect on a past relationship that had ended painfully due to her family background. When Qu Hua visited her, they finally addressed their feelings.

Qu Hua assured her that he found her special from the moment they met and that his feelings weren't just because she resembled an ex-girlfriend. The couple shared a passionate reconciliation. To recover the spent money, Fei Ni began working late into the night folding paper boxes and crocheting mesh bags. Fang Muyang offered a formal apology for his impulsive behavior, admitting he used to be self-centered but now prioritized their home.

He joined her in the work, even learning how to pedal a tricycle to deliver finished boxes to Ms. Ma at the printing factory to save on transportation costs. Fei Ni’s anger softened as they found a new rhythm in their shared efforts. Before departing for Jiangnan, Fang Mujing gave the couple a sum of money as a wedding gift. Fang Muyang immediately handed the cash to Fei Ni to save.

Determined to help her brother, Fei Ni spoke with Section Chief Wang about a vacancy in the Publicity Division. Wang hinted that she was looking for a television coupon for her husband. Seizing the opportunity, Fei Ni promised to try and obtain one in exchange for considering Fei Ting for the post. She later reached out to her colleague Gao Hua, inquiring if her brother at the Commerce Bureau could help.

Simultaneously, Fei Ting visited the Educated Youth Office and was sent to a milk station, where he began the humble work of cleaning bottles under the supervision of Ms. Sun, hoping to build a stable future.
