Rao Yuci makes a grand return to the office, greeted by confetti and a chorus of "Welcome back" from her colleagues. Yu Peidong stands at the front of the crowd leading the celebration, but Yuci offers no pleasantries. Walking straight toward her office, she delivers a shocking announcement: effective immediately, all projects under Investment Departments 2 and 3 are halted. This includes the high-priority green building materials acquisition and the traditional Snack Street Renewal Plan.
The room falls into a confused silence until Yu Peidong demands an explanation, reminding her that she was the one who led them on these projects from the start. Yuci remains cold, stating that the past is the past and the company must now focus entirely on the tripartite cooperation and the upcoming financing conference. When Yu Peidong angrily suggests she has lost her mind, Yuci simply warns him to "live to fight another day."
She then instructs Ren Jing to process the resignation paperwork for anyone who refuses to follow the new arrangements. Later, Ren Jing reports the staff's intense reaction to Jiang Dongchao. When Jiang asks about Yu Peidong’s stance, Ren Jing confirms he is furious. Jiang is pleased by this conflict. Ren Jing assures him that she understands the philosophy for survival at Lysen: to go far, one cannot afford to have any weaknesses.
Meanwhile, Tian Tian begins packing her belongings to quit. Sima Yang tries to talk her out of it, arguing that Yuci’s decisions are acceptable, but Tian Tian dismisses him as a sycophant and leaves. Yuci later meets Tian Tian at a cafe. Tian Tian admits she doesn't blame Yuci and remains grateful for the time Yuci saved her when she first arrived at Lysen.
Back then, Yuci was fearless, encouraging others to be strong and let the unkind feel the "backlash" of their actions. However, Tian Tian notes that while Yuci looks stronger now, there is fear in her eyes. She believes Yuci is choosing to bear everything alone and urges her to stay true to her authentic self so that those who oppose her will truly be afraid. The confrontation moves to a darker note as Yuci meets Bai Jingjing.
Jingjing is full of venom, claiming she wants Yuci to pay with her life for the death of her mother, Bai Xia. Yuci counters that Jingjing is responsible for the current tragedy, just as her selfishness killed Professor Han five years ago. A flashback reveals that back in university, Professor Han had been very supportive of Jingjing due to her top grades.
However, knowing her father had suffered a stroke and that her family was struggling, he kindly recommended her for a high-paying role at a state-owned enterprise instead of his research program, which required total devotion. Jingjing felt insulted and retaliated by framing the professor for sexual misconduct, forcing him to resign. Later, when Yuci visited the disgraced professor, he was so traumatized that he refused to close his door, fearing more false claims.
When Jingjing showed up to harass him further, the stress triggered a fatal heart attack. In the present, Jingjing remains unrepentant, blaming Yuci for everything and claiming Jiang Dongchao will never believe Yuci because she has Bai Qingyu’s backing. Yuci presents the belongings of the late Bai Xia, specifically a bundle of letters that serve as a diary.
In these letters, Bai Xia detailed the heartbreak of finding her daughter only to realize the child didn't recognize her and constantly asked for her father—a man who was actually a gambler. Bai Xia had learned the trade of Saltwater Duck just to provide for Jingjing and even married a man she didn't love just to fulfill Jingjing's wish for a father figure.
Despite reading the depth of her mother's love and sacrifice, Jingjing tears the letters to pieces, refusing to accept that her mother wanted her to "settle for less." Yuci warns her that one day she will realize she has hurt the people who truly cared for her and that by the time she wakes up, they will all be gone. Left alone, Jingjing briefly wavers, asking her mother’s spirit if she was wrong, before stubbornly hardening her heart again.
Meanwhile, Bai Qingyu calls Jiang Dongchao to move forward with the financing conference and the formal announcement of the tripartite cooperation between Lysen, Bossi, and Baiye. She reminds him that while they have succeeded halfway, they must now negotiate the distribution of interests. Jiang immediately summons Ren Jing to prioritize the meeting agenda above all else. That evening, Ren Jing and Yu Peidong share drinks at an observation deck.
Yu Peidong laments that Lysen has lost its soul, turning into an intrigue-filled colosseum. He points out that the green building materials companies only trusted them because of his and Yuci's personal involvement, and now they are being crushed by corporate whims. Though Ren Jing urges him to believe Yuci has a reason, Yu Peidong decides to resign to "clear the battlefield" for her. Chen Mo eventually confronts Yuci about the mass resignations and the visible injury on her face.
He fears she is losing herself in the darkness. He tries to explain the truth behind the Rao Shusheng incident, but Yuci coldly interrupts him, stating she no longer needs the "truth" and has made peace with herself. She claims that some people value interest over light and perhaps they are right. Chen Mo insists she is wrong, recalling the genuine happiness she felt when helping the people of the snack street. He begs her to return to her true self, but Yuci only offers a quiet apology as she prepares to follow through with her ruthless plan.
