As Bai Liangliang prepares to depart with Bai Qingyu, her mother, Bai Xia, suddenly rushes out and blocks their car. Bai Qingyu instructs Liangliang to handle the matter herself and orders the driver to pull away, leaving the mother and daughter alone. Bai Xia immediately strikes Liangliang with a sharp slap, expressing deep regret for her past leniency. She laments that if she had been stricter years ago, Liangliang might not have transformed into the cruel "monster" she is today.
Liangliang, however, remains unrepentant, blaming her mother for dragging her away from the wealthy man she believed was her father and robbing her of a life of luxury. The argument turns even more bitter as Bai Xia reveals that the wealthy man was never Liangliang's father, a reality Liangliang refuses to accept.
Liangliang mocks her mother's "failed" life, claiming she grew up surrounded by the "greasy smell of saltwater ducks" from her mother’s stall and was driven to darkness by the constant gossip of others. Declaring that she will continue to be a "monster" to get what she wants, Liangliang tells Bai Xia to pretend she never had a daughter and never to see her again.
Overwhelmed by grief and the realization that her daughter is lost to her, Bai Xia walks alone into the freezing river as her world collapses. Meanwhile, Rao Yuci’s sudden disappearance puts Yu Peidong and Ren Jing on high alert. They find the shift in power at the company highly suspicious, noting that Bai Qingyu’s sudden alliance with Jiang Dongchao and the return of Bai Liangliang are too coincidental to ignore. Ren Jing decides to confront Jiang Dongchao directly.
When she asks about Yuci’s absence, Jiang brusquely claims he personally approved her leave, despite the lack of official paperwork. He warns Ren Jing to remember who she truly works for and demands to be notified the moment Yuci returns to the office. Chen Mo is also frantically searching for Yuci and eventually meets with Yu Peidong and Ren Jing to share his concerns.
He reveals that Yuci had been injured, claiming she "fell," but he doesn't believe her story and worries she is trying to handle a dangerous conflict alone. After Chen Mo leaves, Ren Jing reveals two critical observations from her visit to Jiang’s office: the carpet had been replaced, and his golf bag was missing.
Convinced these are signs of a violent struggle, Yu Peidong suggests checking surveillance footage, but Ren Jing stops him, arguing that Jiang would have already erased the evidence and a premature move might provoke him. In the wake of Bai Liangliang successfully securing the cooperation between Lysen Group and Baiye Group, Jiang Dongchao decides that Chen Xi has outlived her usefulness.
When Chen Xi attempts to argue that Bai Liangliang shouldn't be involved in their new project, Jiang mocks her lack of intelligence. He bluntly tells her that while Liangliang has actual capability, Chen Xi is merely someone who makes money through illicit means and "inside-outside" schemes. Desperate, Chen Xi threatens to tell his wife, Wan Lingling, about their affair. To her horror, Jiang immediately calls his wife on speakerphone and dares Chen Xi to speak.
Paralyzed by cowardice, Chen Xi remains silent as Jiang tells his wife he will be home early for dinner. He then gives Chen Xi a final ultimatum: know her place or vanish from the company forever. After days of silence and recovery, Rao Yuci finally emerges and reaches out to the founder of Lysen Group, Li Wancheng.
She meets him at a snack street, where the elder man reflects on how he and his associates started the group from humble street stalls. Yuci shows a deep understanding of the company’s history and the current bottleneck it faces due to industrial shifts. Li Wancheng admits that while the company's financial reports look good under Jiang Dongchao, the money invested in overseas projects has mysteriously vanished.
Yuci points out that Jiang is a master at crafting a persona of a patriotic entrepreneur to hide his "gray areas." She suspects he is using the company’s projects to line his own pockets and is currently pushing the tripartite cooperation specifically for personal gain. To uncover the necessary financial evidence of his corruption, Yuci tells Li Wancheng that she must return to Lysen Group. She believes that if Jiang slips up during this upcoming deal, it will be their best opportunity to bring his schemes to light.
