Chen Mo observes that Zhaohe has become much stronger while staying by Yuci’s side throughout her hospitalization. While Yuci acknowledges her mother's love, she admits she spent years avoiding her father's inexplicable loathing for her. Yuci recalls a pivotal moment from five years ago during her college graduation. While her friend Bai Jingjing was praised, Yuci faced Rao Shusheng’s fury.
After Yuci rejected a position at a bank to pursue a graduate degree under Professor Han, Shusheng berated her in front of everyone, accusing her of being unrealistic. Later, a factory fire that killed two workers led superstitious neighbors to label Yuci a "jinx." These coincidences fueled Shusheng’s fear and resentment, leading him to believe that perhaps it was the other twin, Yunian, who should have survived. After hearing the story, Chen Mo advises Zhaohe to keep these details from Yuci for now to avoid further emotional distress.
Seeking to mend their bond, Zhaohe visits Yuci with her favorite homemade meals—tomato scrambled eggs and celery with shrimp. She brings an old photo album, showing Yuci pictures from her childhood. Zhaohe tearfully apologizes for her weakness and her failure to protect Yuci from Shusheng and the manipulative Bai Jingjing. Moved by her mother’s vulnerability, Yuci finally forgives her, and the two share a tearful embrace. Once she is discharged, Zhaohe brings Yuci back to their family home. Meanwhile, in a different part of the city, Bai Jingjing’s mother wakes up from a dream of her daughter returning, only to find herself alone in an empty house.
Soon after, Yuci receives word that Master is gravely ill. She rushes back to the treatment center, only to find that Master, San Tie, and Professor Yang—the "Bad Guy Trio"—have staged a medical emergency just to lure her back for a visit. They joke about their poorly placed medical equipment, but the tone turns serious when they advise Yuci to stop living in the shadows of the past.
Master warns her that whether she likes it or not, she has entered a game where she and those she cares about will inevitably be swept up in the coming conflict. At the Lysen Group’s shareholder appreciation event, Jiang Dongchao takes the stage. Departing from corporate tradition, he shares a personal story about his wife. He describes their time as university classmates and their struggles working abroad.
He speaks of the moment he reached the peak of his career, only to be told that his wife had cancer. Watching the broadcast from the wings, Chen Xi views his emotional display with a mocking, cynical smile.
