> Resumos de A LOVER IN THE MORTAL WORLD
Years ago, young Han Mo sneaked a candied hawthorn, hoping to hide the treat from his strict father. His cousin, Han Yunling, caught him and playfully reminded him to be careful. Their peace was shattered when Han Mo's second uncle returned home covered in blood. In a desperate attempt to save the children, the uncle pushed them over the back wall to escape, but Han Mo fell.
From the ground, the terrified boy witnessed the brutal slaughter of his entire family. In the present, Xiao Chi hurried to the Imperial Prison to investigate the case of Han Mo. He was unsettled to find that the case file was completely blank, containing no record of the crimes. Despite the historian's warnings, Xiao Chi used an imperial token to gain access to the high-security cell.
There, he found Han Mo in a horrific state; the prisoner had been suspended upside down during the day and subjected to relentless whipping for over a decade. Deeply troubled, Xiao Chi brought Han Yunling to the cell late at night for a secret reunion. Han Yunling was devastated to see her cousin on the brink of death. She administered a pill, and Han Mo briefly regained consciousness to recognize her and plead for help.
However, his strength quickly faded, and he appeared to draw his last breath. Believing her brother had died, Han Yunling collapsed in grief. Their mourning was interrupted by the arrival of Steward Shen, the servant of Zhang Ruizhong. Xiao Chi and Han Yunling hid as the arrogant steward entered the cell and dismissed the guards. Believing Han Mo was merely playing dead to avoid pain, the steward continued to whip the motionless body.
Xiao Chi held the trembling Han Yunling close to prevent her from exposing them, while his own heart ached at the desecration of the boy’s body. He began to suspect that Zhang Ruizhong was the architect of the Han family's ruin, as the man had spent a decade keeping Han Mo alive only to torture him. Meanwhile, Wang Ruhai remained under house arrest and grew increasingly desperate.
He sought help from Lord Zhang (Zhang Ruizhong), hoping for an audience with the Emperor. Lord Zhang, privately enjoying Wang’s downfall, feigned a willingness to help and escorted him to the palace. While ostensibly pleading for mercy before Emperor Liu Chu, Lord Zhang subtly suggested that Wang’s crimes deserved harsher treatment.
Seeing the elderly official kneeling in the sweltering heat, the Emperor grew concerned for his health and ordered him to return home, though he refused to rescind the retirement order. On the way back, Lord Zhang deceitfully took credit for the Emperor's leniency, claiming he had pacified the sovereign’s anger. Xiao Chi eventually managed to smuggle Han Mo out of the prison. To Han Yunling’s relief, she discovered her cousin was not dead but in a deep, needle-induced coma.
To save him, she required a catalyst for her medicine. Since no water was available in the wilderness, Xiao Chi insisted on using his own blood as a life-force for the pill, despite his own lingering illness. The strain proved too much, and Xiao Chi lost consciousness shortly after. The following morning, Xiao Chi awoke to find Han Yunling tending to him and Han Mo.
She intended to take her brother back to Changmo once he recovered, but Xiao Chi insisted they stay to uncover the truth behind the blank case files. He decided to take them to his old master, Liu Xiyang, for safety. At the Master’s residence, they were greeted by Liu Xiyang and his daughter, Eighteen.
Though initially grumpy, the Master agreed to care for Han Mo in exchange for the secrets of Han Yunling’s medical preservation technique and a steady supply of the capital's finest wine. In the city, Tang Chaoxue arrived looking for a shop. Although she initially found the prices exorbitant, she immediately paid the lease upon learning the property was located right next to Xiao Chi’s residence and near his garrison, determined to stay close to the General.
Back at the General's manor, Lord Fei arrived early to find that Xiao Chi had been away all night. When Xiao Chi finally returned, Lord Fei escorted him to the West Courtyard. There, they were met by the attendant Jin Xi, who insisted the Princess was still resting from her journey, maintaining the secret of Han Yunling's true identity within the manor walls.
