Lu questioned the identity of his companions, suspecting that the North Xiang warriors and immortal sect members gathered outside the inn were there to arrest them. Before he could get an answer, he heard Xin Mei calling his name from within his spiritual sea and immediately entered meditation to meet her. In the spiritual sea, Xin Mei explained she had used the Spirit Projection technique, following a blood thread from their pact to find him.
When she addressed him as Lu Huai, Lu Qianqiao finally revealed the truth about his identity. As a hybrid of the War Demon and human races, he suffered from the Five Deficiencies Curse. She confronted him with the truth: he was a War Demon. To his kind, all food tasted of rot, and only spicy liquor provided relief; they also could not perceive colors, which explained why his paintings were only in black and white.
