The investigation into the disappearance of Xu Meng and her father leads Ran Fangxu to Sun Zhengyong’s clothing store.
He finds the owner absent, with a young clerk who only started working two days prior. The clerk explains that he was instructed to tell everyone that Sun is out restocking. Meanwhile, at a boutique named Baozi, an employee named Jessica confirms that Sun is a VIP client. On May 10th, he purchased twelve identical classic-style dresses, claiming they were gifts for various women. Back at the police station, Jin Manlang—now a manager for the Longwei Group—retracts his previous statement.
He denies hiring anyone for a killing, insisting he only pursued Xu Meng and her father to collect a debt. He even threatens to report He Yuanhang for using illegal methods to force a confession. Later, He Yuanhang encounters the immaculately dressed Jin at a demolition site. Despite Jin’s arrogant claims that his group prioritizes peace, He Yuanhang remains deeply suspicious of the man he once knew as a low-level thug.
Qiao Suqing is now serving as the finance director for Longwei Real Estate, managing the Yuanlongli demolition. While some neighbors spread malicious rumors about her past, He Yuanhang defends her as a professional woman who has worked hard to improve her life. Hoping to keep his protégé in the city, He Yuanhang brings Ran Fangxu to see Qiao, asking her to help persuade him to stay.
However, Qiao believes it is time for He Yuanhang to let go of the past. When Ran produces a train ticket to Beijing for the next morning, He Yuanhang finally exerts his authority as a mentor, officially ordering Ran to remain in Weiyang to finish the case. While He Xiaohe stays overnight at Qiao Suqing’s home, He Yuanhang and Ran Fangxu spend the night reviewing weeks of surveillance footage.
Their persistence pays off when they spot Sun Zhengyong scouting the Qihuang Clinic on June 27th. They realize Sun likely tricked Xu Meng into believing the clinic had moved to the eighteenth floor. Suddenly, they notice Sun appearing on the live security feed at the same building. They rush to the scene, and after a struggle where He Yuanhang coaches Ran through a tactical takedown, they apprehend Sun.
During interrogation, Sun Zhengyong claims Xu Meng borrowed 30,000 yuan from him in late June, stating she was being threatened and needed to flee with her father. He admits they had a heated argument after she rejected his drunken proposal, but he denies any involvement in her disappearance. The investigation hits a snag when He Yuanhang's old rival, Qu Dahai, reveals that Sun was actually in police custody for five days starting June 29th for selling counterfeit goods.
This provides Sun with an ironclad alibi for the night of the 30th. Meanwhile, the corporate world is in turmoil. Wu Shanlong reports to Song Qingsong that while he was attempting to relocate a body, he was intercepted by a rival's men who stole both the vehicle and the corpse. Furthermore, Director Li begins blackmailing Song with bid documents for the Dongshan Mine. Fearing his downfall is imminent, Song Qingsong orders tickets to Los Angeles.
Wu Shanlong, remaining loyal to his brother-in-law, agrees to stay behind and take the fall for any crimes discovered at the cement factory to protect Song’s family. Disheartened by the lack of evidence, He Yuanhang contemplates returning to his local precinct, but Ran Fangxu refuses to give up. To break the deadlock, He Yuanhang introduces Ran to his "immersive experience" method of reconstruction. He has Ran carry him through the building to simulate Xu Meng carrying her father.
During this simulation, they notice a discrepancy: the father was seen holding a cigarette in the footage despite having a terminal lung condition that made smoking impossible. This realization leads them to discover a hidden keyhole near the elevator, revealing a secret, secondary elevator system.
