In 2002, the confrontation between He Yuanhang and human traffickers reached a violent peak. Standing defiantly in front of the traffickers' van to save his daughter, He Yuanhang refused to move, even when the criminals threatened to run him over. He was struck twice by the vehicle as He Xiaohe watched in terror. Fortunately, Ran Fangxu and the police arrived just in time to stop the escape.
Following Xiaohe's lead, the police located a repair shop where other kidnapped boys were being held, finally bringing an end to the harrowing ordeal. Years later, He Xiaohe and her father returned to the scene of a similar case to investigate. Their inquiries led them to a local restaurant where neighbors reported the owner’s eccentric behavior. While at the shop, Xiaohe’s attention was drawn to a photo on the wall.
She was stunned to recognize the man in the image as "Uncle Mei," the same trafficker who had kidnapped her as a child. Suspecting a connection, she confirmed that the recently rescued boy, Han Zi'ang, had needle marks on his arm, suggesting the use of anesthetics—a signature of Mei’s current operation targeting students near underground internet cafes. This discovery provided a crucial direction for the task force.
Ran Fangxu, who had mentored Xiaohe since her rescue, recalled how he had encouraged the boys saved in the 2002 raid. He had even used two months of his own salary as a "risk investment" to help them pursue their dreams in the digital age. This memory mirrored Xiaohe's own past; she had once asked her father to support her dream of studying music in Beijing.
He Yuanhang had agreed to support her, provided she finished her basic education first, reminding her that even a rock artist needs to be literate. Back in the present, He Yuanhang joined the investigation of Yuanlongli as an expert, proposing the theory of "hiding under one's nose." He suspected Mei was hiding in one of the many vacant units scheduled for redevelopment. During the search, they encountered Manager Qian, who was acting suspiciously.
Qian was caught hurriedly hiding items from a safe inside a cement tank, attempting to mask his actions as building a "safety barricade" when He Yuanhang questioned him. Meanwhile, a breakthrough occurred in an old murder case. The widow of a former mine director provided hidden recordings and photos proving that Song Qingsong had been systematically blackmailed and framed by his own brother-in-law, Wu Shanlong.
The evidence suggested that Wu had forged ransom notes and stolen tender documents to force Song out of the country. Elsewhere, a woman named Zhang Meilan (also known as Zhao Songli) was seen flaunting her wealth at a beauty salon, only to drop dead on the street shortly after leaving, sparking a new police investigation. As night fell, the task force conducted a sweeping search of the empty buildings in Yuanlongli.
After a brief, tense encounter with students acting as NPCs for an escape room, Xiaohe and her father focused on the vacant units. He Yuanhang noted that Uncle Mei habitually used fake identities ending in "Qiang," leading them to unit 1316, registered under the names Zhao Songli and He Yiqiang. The team converged on the unit, and He Xiaohe eventually forced her way inside.
Upon searching the apartment, she made a gruesome discovery: a frozen, rigid corpse hidden inside the refrigerator. This shocking find confirmed that the investigation had uncovered something far more sinister than a simple kidnapping ring.
