On New Year's Eve, Tong Nian's father lovingly brought her some sweet tangyuan. As she ate, trying to probe for information about Han Shangyan, he asked about Tong Nian's own programming team and her team leader, Zheng Hui, suggesting she invite her teammates over. Tong Nian politely declined, explaining that New Year's Day wasn't suitable for guests and it would be better to wait until school started.

Later that night, after a workout, Tong Nian, using the "Predestined Tonight Cafe" WeChat account, sent a New Year's greeting to Han Shangyan, feeling a quiet happiness even though she knew he likely wouldn't reply. Meanwhile, at Han Shangyan's house, he discovered Demo secretly making late-night snacks. Han Shangyan teasingly challenged him to go to the training room to test his Actions Per Minute (APM), promising a great reward if Demo could surpass his score.

Demo complained that it was impossible, even for Team Captain Wu Bai, but reluctantly complied. As the clock struck midnight, marking the start of New Year's Day, Demo excitedly rushed to Han Shangyan, hugging him tightly and repeatedly wishing him a Happy New Year. Han Shangyan, despite his usual stoic demeanor, felt a warmth inside. He then playfully told Demo to keep practicing until his APM reached 150, only to later admit he was just joking.

Early on New Year's Day, Han Shangyan's grandpa loudly woke him up at seven in the morning, chiding him for still being in bed while Wu Bai was already out running. Han Shangyan grumbled about his grandfather’s insistence on early rising during his only break of the year. When Wu Bai returned, Han Shangyan tried to get him to run another lap so he could rest longer, but Wu Bai insisted they run together.

Han Shangyan cleverly avoided the full run by taking a bicycle. Back at the house, with Grandpa and Demo watching the New Year's Gala replay, Grandpa ordered Han Shangyan to go pick up Tong Nian, stating he wanted his future granddaughter-in-law to come over and make dumplings. Han Shangyan was hesitant, knowing Tong Nian’s mother didn’t approve of him, but eventually agreed, taking Demo along.

Outside Tong Nian's house, Han Shangyan sat in the car for ten minutes, reluctant to face her parents. Demo, sensing his boss's apprehension, advised him against arriving empty-handed on New Year's Day and suggested buying something like snacks or seafood. Han Shangyan followed the advice and bought a large pile of assorted fruits from a nearby shop, carrying them himself. Tong Nian's mother opened the door, her expression sour as she saw Han Shangyan, but she allowed him inside.

Tong Nian's father, aunt, and cousin, Hu Yuejiao, were also present and seemed unimpressed by Han Shangyan. He explained that his grandpa wanted Tong Nian to come over for a meal. Tong Nian's father went upstairs to tell her that her "boyfriend" was there to pick her up. Hearing the news, Tong Nian was ecstatic and quickly started getting ready, completely ignoring her father's doubts about who truly wanted her to come over.

When she came downstairs, looking pretty, Han Shangyan asked if it was convenient for her to have dinner with his grandpa. Tong Nian enthusiastically agreed. Before they left, Tong Nian's mother set a strict seven o'clock curfew, but her father quickly overruled it, encouraging them to have fun without worrying about the time.

As they drove, Demo, sitting in the back, excitedly told Tong Nian that she was the only person Han Shangyan had ever allowed to sit in the front passenger seat, emphasizing her importance to him. Their first stop was a supermarket, where Han Shangyan patiently taught Tong Nian how to select a good cabbage and bought her some snacks. Demo felt a pang of jealousy as Han Shangyan hadn't asked him what he wanted.

While shopping, Demo quietly confided in Tong Nian about Han Shangyan’s behavior, noting that men who are mean to outsiders are gentle to their family. Tong Nian, realizing Han Shangyan had never been harsh with her, felt a surge of warmth and happiness, unaware that Han Shangyan was subtly listening in on their conversation from the adjacent aisle. After checkout, with his hands full of groceries, Han Shangyan asked Tong Nian to retrieve his car keys from his pants pocket.

Tong Nian, blushing, first fumbled through his jacket pockets before shyly reaching into his pants, an action that brought a subtle shift to Han Shangyan's usually impassive expression. They then headed to a wet market to find some fennel, where Tong Nian was impressed by Han Shangyan's surprising skill in picking fresh vegetables. Back at Han Shangyan's home, when it was time to make dumplings, both Tong Nian and Demo admitted they had no idea how.

Han Shangyan, exasperated, shooed them both out of the kitchen to keep his grandpa company, taking over the dumpling-making himself. He then called Wu Bai, who had just returned, into the kitchen to chop cabbage. Wu Bai, surprised to see Han Shangyan cooking, struggled with the task, leading Han Shangyan to demonstrate proper chopping technique. In the living room, Grandpa asked Tong Nian to sing.

She initially offered modern songs, but Grandpa insisted on classic operas like "The Legend of the Red Lantern" or "Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy." Tong Nian gamely sang a part of "The Legend of the Red Lantern" to entertain him. Later, Grandpa secretly gave Han Shangyan a necklace and instructed him to hide it in one of Tong Nian's dumplings as a New Year's surprise, despite Han Shangyan’s skepticism about the idea.

During the New Year's dinner, Wu Bai thoughtfully served Tong Nian a plate of dumplings that Han Shangyan had specially prepared for her. Everyone watched with anticipation as Tong Nian ate, hoping she would find the hidden necklace. To their dismay, she finished the entire plate without finding anything. Han Shangyan, who had been observing everyone's reactions, then calmly presented Tong Nian with the cased necklace.

Tong Nian's face lit up when she saw that the necklace featured an "H" initial, symbolizing that Grandpa was essentially "giving" Han Shangyan to her. After dinner, Han Shangyan insisted that Tong Nian relax and watch TV, refusing to let her help with the dishes, explaining that his grandpa would "scold him to death" if she did any chores.

Demo later chatted with Tong Nian, elaborating on the "three unprovokable" members of their club: Shen Zhe, the "King of Sarcasm"; Wu Bai, the "Ice King"; and Han Shangyan, the "Demon King." Demo also shared his personal story of having divorced parents, which is why he often spent New Year's at the club, hinting that Han Shangyan's self-sufficiency stemmed from similar experiences.

He then revealed his plan to share the "groundbreaking news"—that the Demon King had done all the cooking and cleaning for her, a sure sign he was in love—with the rest of the team. Later that night, Han Shangyan drove Tong Nian home. At her doorstep, neither wanted to leave, so they sat in the car, listening to music and savoring the quiet moments together.

Their intimate farewell was interrupted when Tong Nian's cousin, Hu Dounan, rushed out and tried to invite Han Shangyan inside, prompting a shy Tong Nian to finally go in. On the third day of the New Year, the K&K Esports Club was abuzz with activity as team members returned. Ling Shan, ever concerned with his appearance, was seen applying a face mask, hoping for good luck in the upcoming competitions.

The other team members playfully cornered Demo, grilling him about the "torment" he endured during his New Year's stay at Han Shangyan’s house. Demo, however, surprised them by revealing Han Shangyan’s uncharacteristic tenderness towards Tong Nian, explaining that he did all the grocery shopping, dumpling making, and dishwashing himself. Han Shangyan then held a team meeting, announcing that he, Shen Zhe, and Ling Shan would be flying to Norway for the CTF International Competition, which was a solo player event.

The remaining team members were instructed to stay behind for training under Grunt’s watchful eye. The team manager, Su Cheng, informed them that K&K would be sharing a flight with the SP Team, including their manager Ai Qing, Mi, All, and Inin, due to the small number of participants. Su Cheng then playfully teased Han Shangyan about being a "single bachelor" with no one to say goodbye to before his trip. Her words lingered, subtly making Han Shangyan think of Tong Nian.
