Jiang Wanyu and Liu Chu finally consummate their marriage, bringing the Princess a sense of long-awaited happiness and security. This joy coincides with the day Jin Xi is scheduled to leave the palace. Relieved to see Wanyu truly loved and cared for, Jin Xi prepares for her departure. To honor her service to the new Consort Ling, the Eldest Princess, Liu Xie, arranges for Jin Xi to be seen off through the main palace gates with grand ceremony.
As the gates close, Jiang Wanyu watches her friend leave, hoping for a reunion while Jin Xi moves into a residence arranged by the court. Meanwhile, Xiao Chi leads Han Yunling to a weathered warehouse, claiming he needs her help to inventory goods. To her surprise, the building is actually a fully stocked pharmacy. Xiao Chi has gathered precious medicines, including reishi mushrooms, ginseng, and the rare "Jewel Orchid" (Jin-xian-lian), gifting the entire shop to her.
Moved by his gesture, Yunling accepts the pharmacy, vowing to use her skills to save lives and bless the people, just as Xiao Chi inscribed on her shop's plaque. On their way back, the two discuss the massacre of the Han family, noting that the recent village plague shares disturbing similarities with an epidemic from years ago. They realize the truth likely lies with high-ranking officials who survived that era, specifically Zhang Ruizhong and Wang Ruhai.
At the same time, Wang Ruhai grows increasingly resentful. Already bitter about being forced into retirement, he becomes enraged when a grieving father demands the return of a daughter kidnapped by Wang’s son, Wang Kun. Believing Xiao Chi is behind these legal troubles, Wang Ruhai swears to retaliate. Han Yunling's peace is soon shattered by a terrifying nightmare of Huangpi Village engulfed in flames.
Fearing it is a premonition, she and Xiao Chi rush to the village, only to find the nightmare has become a reality. The villagers have been slaughtered, and the perpetrators—a group of masked men in black—remain on the scene. During the ensuing skirmish, Xiao Chi is struck by a poisoned dart while protecting Han Yunling. Though they manage to escape, Xiao Chi’s condition rapidly deteriorates as the venom takes hold.
Desperate to save him, Han Yunling searches the capital for medicine, but every pharmacy has been emptied of the specific herbs she needs. Fei Zheng consults an Imperial Physician and discovers that the weapon was coated in krait venom. The physician suggests that the only hope lies in using "poison against poison" with legendary ingredients like Blue Snake Tail or Snake Herb.
While Han Yunling works to stabilize Xiao Chi’s heart meridian, Fei Zheng’s investigation confirms that Wang Ruhai ordered the assassination. He presents evidence of the Wang family's numerous crimes to Liu Chu, urging the Emperor to act. Driven by a need for answers, Han Yunling confronts Wang Ruhai at his manor, demanding the truth about the Han family's death.
The arrogant official initially refuses to speak, but his resolve breaks when the Imperial Guard arrives with a decree to arrest his son for kidnapping and other crimes. In a desperate bid to save Wang Kun, the official offers to trade the truth for the boy's freedom. However, the shock and rage prove too much for Wang Ruhai; he collapses and dies on the spot, taking the secrets of the past to the grave.
Amidst the chaos, the Eldest Princess, Liu Xie, focuses on her own shadow play for power. Seeing the old guard like Wang Ruhai falling away and Zhang Ruizhong aging, she begins consolidating her influence, using the "Xie Shadow Guard" to monitor those around the Emperor and keep watch over Jin Xi at her new residence. She feels confident that as long as Liu Chu remains obedient, the entirety of Jinglan will remain under her control.
With Xiao Chi still unconscious and his life hanging by a thread, Han Yunling refuses to give up. She decides to personally track down the legendary herbs in the treacherous terrain of North Mountain. Risking her life on the steep cliffs, she eventually finds the medicine growing in a narrow crevice.
Despite nearly falling to her death during the harvest, she manages to secure the herb and returns to Xiao Chi's side, determined to be the one to protect him this time.
