While waiting at Lvwan Bridge, the peaceful atmosphere and the snacks on the table led Chu Qiao to reminisce about her first encounter with Zhuge Yue. Years ago, she was a mere slave at Hongshan Court, subject to the whims of the cruel Zhuge Huai, who delighted in forcing slaves to walk on red-hot coals for his amusement. Zhuge Yue had intervened, challenging his cousin’s mismanagement and taking the "useless" slave girls away to Qingshan Court.

Instead of keeping them captive, Zhuge Yue had released Chu Qiao’s people, providing them with money to flee the city. Despite her deep-seated hatred for the Zhuge family, Chu Qiao found herself no match for him when she tried to attack. Zhuge Yue gave her a choice: flee with her family and likely perish in the chaos, or learn how to survive in a lawless world.

Choosing the path of the warrior, Chu Qiao remained at Qingshan Court, undergoing rigorous training under his protection until she was strong enough to stand on her own. In Yanbei, Yan Xun returned with Cheng Yuan to find General Huan leading the local forces. While he publicly praised her for stabilizing the region and accepted the return of the military seal, his gratitude was a front.

As General Huan traveled back to her post, she was ambushed by assassins from the Black Eagle Army. Though she fought desperately and managed to escape, she was severely wounded. To solidify his image as a divinely protected ruler, Yan Xun ruthlessly killed the witch who had saved his life, using her body as a substitute for General Huan. He ordered the corpse to be publicly displayed as a warning to anyone who might question his absolute authority.

Meanwhile, Zhuge Yue’s survival had come at a heavy price. Suffering from the agonizing Snow Blood poison, he was confronted by the King of Ximeng. The King was impressed that Zhuge Yue had survived so long without an antidote and offered a deal. In exchange for ten days of medicine at a time, Zhuge Yue was forced to become the King's "shadow"—a secret, elite slave tasked with carrying out dangerous missions.

In another part of the region, Zhao Chun'er had found sanctuary after her attempted suicide. She had been saved from drowning by Li Yan, also known as Prince Luo. Unaware of her royal identity, he comforted her and encouraged her to move past the shadows of her lost love. Eventually, she followed him back to Tangjing as his mourning period for his late father ended.

Back at the Crown Prince’s residence, Chu Qiao detected an intruder who had searched her room and discovered the Xiuli Army banner. She warned Li Ce that the intruder’s martial arts style felt strangely familiar. Before they could investigate further, the Empress summoned them to the palace. The Empress was suspicious, noting that while the girl bore a resemblance to the missing Princess Fu, she also looked like the famous fugitive slave Chu Qiao.

However, using information Yan Xun had previously shared with her about the Prince Pingnan’s family, Chu Qiao was able to answer the Empress’s probing questions about her childhood with perfect accuracy. Unconvinced, the Empress summoned Li Yan to the palace, knowing he was Princess Fu’s childhood fiancé. At a subsequent banquet, Li Yan realized at once that the woman before him was not his true betrothed.

During a private moment, Chu Qiao confronted him, explaining that she was a slave from Daqiong whom Li Ce had rescued. She urged him to maintain the lie, not just for her sake, but to protect Li Ce from the Empress’s wrath. Moved by the risk Li Ce had taken, Li Yan returned to the Empress and confirmed that Chu Qiao was indeed the real Princess Fu. He successfully requested to postpone the wedding, citing their long separation.

Later, Li Ce confessed to Chu Qiao that the Empress, despite being his biological mother, was a cold woman who prioritized power over everything. He explained that his "wastrel" persona was merely a mask to keep her from viewing him as a threat. Touched by his honesty, Chu Qiao promised that once her hand injury healed, she would stand by him and help him secure his rightful position.
